1 Samuel 11
1 And Nahash the Ammonite comes up, and encamps against Jabesh-Gilead, and all the men of Jabesh say to Nahash, “Make a covenant with us, and we serve you.”
Nahaṣi ará Ammoni gòkè lọ, ó sì dó ti Jabesi Gileadi, gbogbo ọkùnrin Jabesi sì wí fún Nahaṣi pé, “Bá wa dá májẹ̀mú, àwa yóò sì máa sìn ọ́.”
2 And Nahash the Ammonite says to them, “For this I cut [a covenant] with you, in picking out every right eye of yours—and I have set it [for] a reproach on all Israel.”
Ṣùgbọ́n Nahaṣi ará Ammoni sì wí fún un pé, “Nípa èyí ni èmi yóò fi bá a yín ṣe ìpinnu, nípa yíyọ gbogbo ojú ọ̀tún yín kúrò, èmi yóò ṣì fi yín ṣe ẹlẹ́yà lójú gbogbo Israẹli.”
3 And [the] elderly of Jabesh say to him, “Leave us alone [for] seven days, and we send messengers into all the border of Israel: and if there is none saving us—then we have come out to you.”
Àwọn àgbàgbà Jabesi sì wí fún un pé, “Fún wa ní ọjọ́ méje kí àwa lè rán oníṣẹ́ sí gbogbo Israẹli; àti agbègbè bí ẹni kankan kò bá sì jáde láti gbà wá, àwa yóò fi ara wa fún ọ.”
4 And the messengers come to Gibeah of Saul, and speak the words in the ears of the people, and all the people lift up their voice and weep;
Nígbà tí àwọn ìránṣẹ́ náà sì wá sí Gibeah tí ó jẹ́ ìlú Saulu, wọ́n sọ ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀nyí fún àwọn ènìyàn, gbogbo wọn gbé ohùn wọn sókè, wọ́n sì sọkún.
5 and behold, Saul has come out of the field after the herd, and Saul says, “What [is that] to the people, that they weep?” And they recount the words of the men of Jabesh to him.
Nígbà náà gan an ni Saulu padà wá láti pápá, pẹ̀lú màlúù rẹ̀, ó sì béèrè pé, “Kín ni ohun tí ó ṣẹlẹ̀ sí àwọn ènìyàn? Èéṣe tí wọ́n fi ń sọkún?” Nígbà náà ni wọ́n tún sọ fún wọn ọ̀rọ̀ àwọn ọkùnrin Jabesi.
6 And the Spirit of God prospers over Saul, in his hearing these words, and his anger burns greatly,
Nígbà tí Saulu sì gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ wọn, Ẹ̀mí Ọlọ́run sì bà lé e pẹ̀lú agbára, inú rẹ̀ sì ru sókè.
7 and he takes a couple of oxen, and cuts them in pieces, and sends [them] through all the border of Israel, by the hand of the messengers, saying, “He who is not coming out after Saul and after Samuel—thus it is done to his oxen”; and the fear of YHWH falls on the people, and they come out as one man.
Ó sì mú màlúù méjì, ó gé wọn sí wẹ́wẹ́, ó sì rán ẹyẹẹyọ sí gbogbo Israẹli nípa ọwọ́ àwọn ìránṣẹ́ náà, ó ní i ẹ kéde pé, “Èyí ni a ó ṣe sí màlúù ẹnikẹ́ni tí kò bá tọ Saulu àti Samuẹli lẹ́yìn.” Nígbà náà ni ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa sì mú àwọn ènìyàn, wọ́n sì jáde bí ènìyàn kan ṣoṣo.
8 And he inspects them in Bezek, and the sons of Israel are three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
Nígbà tí Saulu sì kó wọn jọ ní Beseki, àwọn ọkùnrin Israẹli tí a kà jẹ́ ọ̀kẹ́ mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún, àwọn ọkùnrin Juda sì jẹ́ ẹgbàá mẹ́ẹ̀ẹ́dógún.
9 And they say to the messengers who are coming, “Thus you say to the men of Jabesh-Gilead: Tomorrow you have safety—by the heat of the sun”; and the messengers come and declare [it] to the men of Jabesh, and they rejoice;
Wọ́n sì sọ fún àwọn ìránṣẹ́ tí ó wá pé, “Sọ fún àwọn ọkùnrin Jabesi Gileadi pé, ní àkókò tí oòrùn bá mú lọ́la, àwa yóò gbà yín sílẹ̀.” Nígbà tí àwọn ìránṣẹ́ náà lọ tí wọ́n sì sọ èyí fún àwọn ọkùnrin Jabesi, inú wọn sì dùn.
10 and the men of Jabesh say [to the Ammonites], “Tomorrow we come out to you, and you have done to us according to all that [is] good in your eyes.”
Wọ́n sọ fún àwọn ará Jabesi pé, “Àwa yóò fi ara wa fún un yín ní ọ̀la, kí ẹ̀yin kí ó ṣe gbogbo èyí tí ó tọ́ lójú yín sí wa.”
11 And it comes to pass, on the next day, that Saul puts the people in three detachments, and they come into the midst of the camp in the morning-watch, and strike Ammon until the heat of the day; and it comes to pass that those left are scattered, and there have not been left two of them together.
Ní ọjọ́ kejì Saulu pín àwọn ọkùnrin rẹ̀ sí ipa mẹ́ta, wọ́n sì ya wọ àgọ́ àwọn ará Ammoni ní ìṣọ́ òwúrọ̀, wọ́n sì pa wọ́n títí di ìmóoru ọjọ́. Àwọn tókù wọ́n sì fọ́nká, tó bẹ́ẹ̀ tí méjì wọn kò kù sí ibìkan.
12 And the people say to Samuel, “Who is he that says, Saul reigns over us? Give up the men, and we put them to death.”
Àwọn ènìyàn sọ fún Samuẹli pé, “Ta ni ó béèrè wí pé, Saulu yóò ha jẹ ọba lórí wa? Mú àwọn ọkùnrin náà wá, a ó sì pa wọ́n.”
13 And Saul says, “There is no man put to death on this day, for today YHWH has worked salvation in Israel.”
Ṣùgbọ́n Saulu wí pé, “A kì yóò pa ẹnikẹ́ni lónìí, nítorí lónìí yìí ni Olúwa ṣiṣẹ́ ìgbàlà ní Israẹli.”
14 And Samuel says to the people, “Come and we go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there”;
Nígbà náà ni Samuẹli wí fún àwọn ènìyàn pé, “Ẹ wá, ẹ jẹ́ kí a lọ sí Gilgali, kí a lè fi ẹsẹ̀ Saulu múlẹ̀ bí ọba.”
15 and all the people go to Gilgal, and cause Saul to reign there before YHWH in Gilgal, and sacrifice sacrifices of peace-offerings there before YHWH, and Saul rejoices there—and all the men of Israel—very greatly.
Nítorí náà gbogbo ènìyàn lọ sí Gilgali, wọn sí fi Saulu jẹ ọba ní iwájú Olúwa. Níbẹ̀, ni wọn ti rú ẹbọ ìrẹ́pọ̀ ní iwájú Olúwa, Saulu àti gbogbo Israẹli ṣe àjọyọ̀ ńlá.
