< 1 Peter 4 >
1 Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same mind, because he who suffered in the flesh has finished [with] sin,
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 no longer in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh;
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3 for the time has sufficiently passed to have carried out the will of the nations, having walked in licentiousness, lusts, excesses of wines, revelings, drinking-bouts, and unlawful idolatries,
For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries:
4 in which they think it strange—your not running with them to the same excess of wastefulness, slandering [you]—
In which they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you:
5 who will give an account to Him who is ready to judge [the] living and [the] dead,
Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 for this also was good news proclaimed to dead men, that they may be judged, indeed, according to men in the flesh, but may live according to God in the Spirit.
For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7 Now the end of all things has come near; be sober-minded, then, and be sober in [your] prayers.
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober minded, and watch to prayer.
8 Before all things, having earnest love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins;
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover a multitude of sins.
9 [be] hospitable to one another, without murmuring;
Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10 each [one], according as he received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 if anyone speaks, [speak] as oracles of God; if anyone ministers, [minister] as of the strength which God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the power through the ages of the ages. Amen. (aiōn )
If any man speaketh, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministereth, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn )
12 Beloved, do not think it strange at the fiery suffering among you that is coming to try you, as if a strange thing were happening to you,
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you:
13 but according as you have fellowship with the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice, that you may also rejoice in the revelation of His glory—exulting;
But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 if you are reproached in the Name of Christ—[you are] blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you; in regard, indeed, to them, is evil spoken of Him, and in regard to you, He is glorified;
If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15 for let none of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as a meddler into other men’s matters;
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16 and if as a Christian, do not let him be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this respect;
Yet if any man suffereth as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 because it is the time of the judgment to have begun from the house of God, and if first from us, what [is] the end of those disobedient to the good news of God?
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first beginneth with us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous man is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and sinner appear?
And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 So that those also suffering according to the will of God, as to a steadfast Creator, let them commit their own souls in doing good.
Therefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.
