1 Kings 3
1 And Solomon joins in marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and takes the daughter of Pharaoh, and brings her to the City of David, until he completes to build his own house, and the house of YHWH, and the wall of Jerusalem all around.
Et Salomon s'apparenta à Pharaon, Roi d'Egypte, et il épousa la fille de Pharaon, qu'il introduisit dans la ville de David, en attendant qu'il eût achevé la construction de sa maison et de la Maison de l'Éternel, et du mur d'enceinte de Jérusalem.
2 Only, the people are sacrificing in high places, for there has not been built a house for the Name of YHWH until those days.
Seulement le peuple sacrifiait sur les tertres, parce que jusqu'à cette époque il n'avait pas été élevé de Maison au Nom de l'Éternel.
3 And Solomon loves YHWH, to walk in the statutes of his father David—only, he is sacrificing and making incense in high places—
Et Salomon aimait l'Éternel, marchant sur les errements de David, son père; seulement offrait-il sur les tertres les sacrifices et l'encens.
4 and the king goes to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for it [is] the great high place; Solomon causes one thousand burnt-offerings to ascend on that altar.
Et le Roi se rendit à Gabaon pour y faire un sacrifice, car c'était le tertre principal; Salomon offrit mille holocaustes sur cet autel.
5 YHWH has appeared to Solomon in Gibeon, in a dream of the night, and God says, “Ask—what do I give to you?”
A Gabaon l'Éternel apparut à Salomon en songe pendant la nuit, et Dieu dit: Demande ce que je dois te donner.
6 And Solomon says, “You have done with Your servant, my father David, great kindness, as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You, and You keep this great kindness for him, and give to him a son sitting on his throne, as [at] this day.
Et Salomon dit: Tu as témoigné à ton serviteur David, mon père, un grand amour, comme il marchait devant Toi en vérité et en justice et en droiture de cœur avec Toi, et Tu lui as conservé ce grand amour et lui as accordé un fils qui est assis sur son trône, comme cela est aujourd'hui.
7 And now, O YHWH my God, You have caused Your servant to reign instead of my father David; and I [am] a little child, I do not know [how] to go out and to come in;
Et maintenant Éternel, mon Dieu, tu as fait ton serviteur Roi, successeur de David, mon père, et je ne suis qu'un jeune adolescent sans expérience pour se conduire,
8 and Your servant [is] in the midst of your people, whom You have chosen, a people numerous, that is not numbered nor counted for multitude,
et ton serviteur se trouve au milieu de ton peuple que tu as élu, peuple considérable qu'on ne saurait ni mesurer ni compter, tant il est immense.
9 and You have given an understanding heart to Your servant, to judge Your people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
Dote donc ton serviteur d'un cœur qui sache écouter, à l'effet de rendre la justice à ton peuple, et d'avoir le discernement du bien et du mal; car qui est-ce qui serait capable d'administrer la justice à ton peuple, ce peuple immense?
10 And the thing is good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon has asked this thing,
Et le fait fut agréable aux yeux du Seigneur, que Salomon eût demandé cette chose-là.
11 and God says to him, “Because that you have asked for this thing, and have not asked for many days for yourself, nor asked for riches for yourself, nor asked for the life of your enemies, and have asked for discernment for yourself to understand judgment,
Et Dieu lui dit: Parce que tu as demandé cette chose, et que tu n'as demandé pour toi ni longue vie, ni richesses, ni mort de tes ennemis, et que tu as demandé pour toi la capacité d'administrer la justice,
12 behold, I have done according to your words; behold, I have given a wise and understanding heart to you, that there has not been [one] like you before you, and after you there does not arise [one] like you;
voici, J'agirai d'après tes paroles; voici, Je te donne un cœur sage et intelligent, tel qu'il n'y en a pas eu de pareil avant toi et qu'après toi ne surgira personne qui t'égale.
13 and also, that which you have not asked for I have given to you, both riches and honor, that there has not been a man like you among the kings [for] all your days;
Et qui plus est, ce que tu n'as pas demandé, je te le donne, et opulence et honneur, tellement que tu n'auras pas ton pareil parmi les rois tout le temps de ta vie.
14 and if you walk in My ways to keep My statutes, and My commands, as your father David walked, then I have prolonged your days.”
Et si tu suis mes voies pour garder mes statuts et mes ordonnances, comme l'a fait David, ton père, je prolongerai tes jours…
15 And Solomon awakens, and behold, [it was] a dream; and he comes to Jerusalem, and stands before the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH, and causes burnt-offerings to ascend, and makes peace-offerings, and he makes a banquet for all his servants.
Alors Salomon s'éveilla, et voilà que c'était un songe. Et il rentra à Jérusalem, et se présenta devant l'Arche de l'Alliance de l'Éternel, et offrit des holocaustes et fit des sacrifices pacifiques, et donna un grand banquet à tous ses serviteurs.
16 Then two women, harlots, come to the king, and they stand before him,
Alors deux prostituées arrivèrent chez le Roi et parurent devant lui.
17 and the first woman says, “O my lord, this woman and I are dwelling in one house, and I bring forth with her, in the house;
Et l'une des femmes dit: J'ai recours à toi, mon Seigneur! Moi et cette femme nous habitions le même logis, et j'accouchai chez elle dans la maison.
18 and it comes to pass on the third day of my bringing forth, that this woman also brings forth, and we [are] together, there is no stranger with us in the house, except the two of us, in the house.
Et le troisième jour après mes couches, cette femme accoucha aussi. Et nous étions ensemble et aucune personne étrangère n'était avec nous dans la maison; il n'y avait que nous deux dans la maison.
19 And the son of this woman dies at night, because she has lain on him,
Et le fils de cette femme mourut pendant la nuit, parce qu'elle s'était couchée sur lui.
20 and she rises in the middle of the night, and takes my son from beside me—and your handmaid is asleep—and lays him in her bosom, and she has laid her dead son in my bosom;
Et au milieu de la nuit elle se leva et prit mon fils à mes côtés pendant le sommeil de ta servante, et elle le mit sur son sein, et sur mon sein elle mit son enfant mort.
21 and I rise in the morning to suckle my son, and behold, [he is] dead; and I consider in the morning concerning it, and behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”
Et lorsque le matin je me disposais à allaiter mon enfant, voilà qu'il était mort! mais l'ayant regardé attentivement le matin, je vis que ce n'était pas le fils que j'avais enfanté.
22 And the other woman says, “No, but my son [is] the living, and your son the dead”; and this [one] says, “No, but your son [is] the dead, and my son the living.” And they speak before the king.
Et l'autre femme dit: Nullement! c'est l'enfant vivant qui est mon fils, et l'enfant mort est ton fils. Et l'autre reprit: Nullement! mais ton fils est l'enfant mort, et mon enfant est celui qui est en vie. Et elles disputaient devant le Roi.
23 And the king says, “This [one] says, This [is] my son, the living, and your son [is] the dead; and that [one] says, No, but your son [is] the dead, and my son the living.”
Alors le Roi dit: L'une dit: C'est mon fils qui est l'enfant vivant et ton fils est le mort. Et l'autre dit: Nullement! mais c'est ton fils qui est le mort, et le mien qui est le vivant.
24 And the king says, “Take a sword for me”; and they bring the sword before the king,
Et le Roi dit: Allez me chercher une épée! Et l'on apporta une épée devant le Roi.
25 and the king says, “Cut the living child into two, and give half to one, and half to the other.”
Et le Roi dit: Coupez en deux l'enfant qui vit, et donnez-en une moitié à l'une, et une moitié à l'autre.
26 And the woman whose son [is] the living one says to the king (for her bowels yearned over her son), indeed, she says, “O my lord, give the living child to her, and do not put him to death at all”; and this [one] says, “Let him be neither mine or yours—cut [him].”
Alors la femme dont l'enfant vivant était le fils, s'adressant au Roi (car ses entrailles bouillaient pour son enfant) dit: Je t'en supplie, mon Seigneur! Donnez-lui l'enfant qui vit, mais ne le faites pas mourir! Et l'autre femme dit: Qu'il ne soit ni à moi, ni à toi! coupez-le!
27 And the king answers and says, “Give the living child to her [who wants him], and do not put him to death at all; she [is] his mother.”
Alors le Roi prit la parole et prononça: Redonnez-lui l'enfant qui vit! et ne le faites pas mourir! c'est sa mère.
28 And all [in] Israel hear of the judgment that the king has judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God [is] in his heart to do judgment.
Et tous les Israélites entendirent le jugement rendu par le Roi, et ils conçurent un grand respect pour lui; car ils apercevaient en lui la sagesse de Dieu pour l'exercice de la justice.
