1 Kings 19
1 And Ahab declares to Jezebel all that Elijah did, and all of how he slew all the prophets by the sword,
Acab informó a Jezabel todo lo que Elías hizo y cómo mató a espada a todos los profetas.
2 and Jezebel sends a messenger to Elijah, saying, “Thus the gods do, and thus do they add—surely about this time tomorrow, I make your life as the life of one of them.”
Entonces Jezabel envió un mensajero a Elías, quien dijo: ¡Así me hagan los ʼelohim, y aun me añadan, si mañana a esta hora no hago con tu vida como hiciste con la vida de uno de ellos!
3 And he fears, and rises, and goes for his life, and comes to Beer-Sheba, that [is] Judah’s, and leaves his young man there,
Y él tuvo temor, se levantó y huyó para salvar su vida. Llegó a Beerseba, que es de Judá, y dejó allí a su esclavo.
4 and he himself has gone a day’s journey into the wilderness, and comes and sits under a certain broom tree, and desires his soul to die, and says, “Enough, now, O YHWH, take my soul, for I [am] not better than my fathers.”
Él salió solo al desierto donde anduvo todo un día. Llegó, se sentó debajo de un enebro. Ansiaba morir y dijo: ¡Basta ya, oh Yavé! ¡Quítame ahora la vida, porque no soy mejor que mis antepasados!
5 And he lies down and sleeps under a certain broom tree, and behold, a messenger is reaching toward him and says to him, “Rise, eat”;
Se recostó debajo del enebro y se quedó dormido. Y ciertamente un ángel lo tocó y le dijo: ¡Levántate, come!
6 and he looks attentively, and behold, at his bolster [is] a cake [on] burning stones, and a dish of water, and he eats, and drinks, and turns, and lies down.
Miró atentamente, y en verdad había a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las brasas y una vasija con agua. Comió y bebió, y volvió a recostarse.
7 And the messenger of YHWH turns back a second time, and is reaching toward him, and says, “Rise, eat, for the way is too great for you”;
El Ángel de Yavé llegó por segunda vez, lo tocó y le dijo: ¡Levántate y come, porque largo camino te resta!
8 and he rises, and eats, and drinks, and goes in the power of that food [for] forty days and forty nights, to the mountain of God—Horeb.
Él se levantó, comió y bebió. Con la fuerza de esa comida anduvo 40 días y 40 noches hasta Horeb, la Montaña de ʼElohim.
9 And he comes in there, to the cave, and lodges there, and behold, the word of YHWH [is] to him, and says to him, “What are you [doing] here, Elijah?”
Allí entró en una cueva donde pasó la noche. Y en verdad vino a él la Palabra de Yavé, que preguntaba: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
10 And he says, “I have been very zealous for YHWH, God of Hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant—they have thrown down Your altars, and they have slain Your prophets by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life—to take it.”
Y él respondió: Sentí un vivo celo por Yavé, ʼElohim de las huestes, porque los hijos de Israel abandonaron tu Pacto, derribaron tus altares y mataron a espada a tus profetas. Quedé yo solo y me buscan para quitarme la vida.
11 And He says, “Go out, and you have stood on the mountain before YHWH.” And behold, YHWH is passing by, and a wind—great and strong—is tearing mountains, and shattering rocks before YHWH, [but] YHWH [is] not in the wind; and after the wind [is] a shaking, [but] YHWH [is] not in the shaking;
Y Él dijo: Sal afuera y ponte en pie en la Montaña, delante de Yavé. Y en verdad Yavé pasaba. Un grande y poderoso viento destrozaba las montañas y rompía las peñas delante de Yavé, pero Yavé no estaba en el viento. Después del viento hubo un terremoto, pero Yavé no estaba en el terremoto.
12 and after the shaking [is] a fire, [but] YHWH [is] not in the fire; and after the fire [is] a voice [like] a small whisper;
Después del terremoto hubo un fuego, pero Yavé no estaba en el fuego. Y después del fuego, un sonido apacible y delicado.
13 and it comes to pass, at Elijah’s hearing [it], that he wraps his face in his robe, and goes out, and stands at the opening of the cave, and behold, a voice [speaks] to him, and it says, “What are you [doing] here, Elijah?”
Sucedió que al Elías oírlo, cubrió su rostro con su manto. Salió y estuvo en pie en la entrada de la cueva. Y en verdad, una voz vino a él y le preguntó: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
14 And he says, “I have been very zealous for YHWH, God of Hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, they have thrown down Your altars, and they have slain Your prophets by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life—to take it.”

15 And YHWH says to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and you have gone in, and anointed Hazael for king over Aram,
Yavé le dijo: Vé, regresa por el camino del desierto a Damasco. Cuando llegues, ungirás a Hazael como rey de Siria.
16 and you anoint Jehu son of Nimshi for king over Israel, and you anoint Elisha son of Shaphat, of Abel-Meholah, for prophet in your stead.
También ungirás como rey de Israel a Jehú, hijo de Nimsi, y ungirás a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, de Abel-mehola, como profeta en tu lugar.
17 And it has been, he who has escaped from the sword of Hazael, Jehu puts to death, and he who has escaped from the sword of Jehu, Elisha puts to death;
Sucederá que el que escape de la espada de Hazael, lo matará Jehú, y el que escape de la espada de Jehú, lo matará Eliseo.
18 and I have left in Israel seven thousand—all the knees that have not bowed to Ba‘al, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”
Yo haré que queden en Israel 7.000. Sus rodillas no se doblaron ante baal y sus bocas no lo besaron.
19 And he goes there, and finds Elisha son of Shaphat, and he is plowing; twelve yoke [are] before him, and he [is] with the twelfth; and Elijah passes over to him, and casts his robe at him,
Al salir de allí, halló a Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que araba con 12 yuntas delante de él, y él tenía la duodécima. Al pasar Elías hacia él, echó su manto sobre él.
20 and he forsakes the ox, and runs after Elijah, and says, “Please let me give a kiss to my father and to my mother, and I go after you.” And he says to him, “Go, turn back, for what have I done to you?”
Entonces él dejó los bueyes, fue corriendo tras Elías y dijo: Besaré ahora a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Él le dijo: Vé, regresa. Pues, ¿qué te hice yo?
21 And he turns back from after him, and takes the yoke of the ox, and sacrifices it, and with [the] instruments of the ox he has boiled its flesh, and gives to the people, and they eat, and he rises, and goes after Elijah, and serves him.
Dejó de ir tras él. Luego tomó la yunta de bueyes y los mató. Con el arado de los bueyes cocinó su carne y la dio a la gente para que comiera. Después se levantó, fue tras Elías y le servía.
