1 Kings 18
1 And the days are many, and the word of YHWH has been to Elijah in the third year, saying, “Go, appear to Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground”;
Pasados muchos días, fue palabra de Jehová al tercer año a Elías, diciendo: Vé, muéstrate a Acab, y yo daré lluvia sobre la haz de la tierra.
2 and Elijah goes to appear to Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,
Y Elías fue para mostrarse a Acab: y había grande hambre en Samaria.
3 and Ahab calls to Obadiah, who [is] over the house—and Obadiah has been fearing YHWH greatly,
Y Acab llamó a Abdías su mayordomo, el cual Abdías era en grande manera temeroso de Jehová.
4 and it comes to pass, in Jezebel’s cutting off the prophets of YHWH, that Obadiah takes one hundred prophets, and hides them, fifty men in a cave, and has sustained them with bread and water—
Porque cuando Jezabel talaba los profetas de Jehová, Abdías tomó cien profetas, los cuales escondió de cincuenta en cincuenta por cuevas, y los sustentó a pan y agua.
5 and Ahab says to Obadiah, “Go through the land, to all fountains of waters, and to all the brooks, perhaps we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the livestock.”
Y dijo Acab a Abdías: Vé por la provincia a todas las fuentes de aguas, y a todos los arroyos, si a dicha hallaremos grama, con que conservemos la vida a los caballos y a las acémilas, para que no nos quedemos sin bestias.
6 And they apportion the land to themselves, to pass over into it; Ahab has gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah has gone in another way by himself;
Y partieron entre sí la provincia para andarla: Acab fue por sí por un camino, y Abdías fue por sí por otro.
7 and Obadiah [is] in the way, and behold, Elijah [is there] to meet him; and he discerns him, and falls on his face and says, “Are you he—my lord Elijah?”
Y yendo Abdías por el camino, topóse con Elías: y como le conoció, postróse sobre su rostro, y dijo: ¿No eres tú mi señor Elías?
8 And he says to him, “I [am]; go, say to your lord, Behold, Elijah.”
Y él respondió: Yo soy. Vé; di a tu amo: He aquí Elías.
9 And he says, “What have I sinned, that you are giving your servant into the hand of Ahab—to put me to death?
Y él dijo: ¿En qué he pecado, para que tú entregues tu siervo en mano de Acab, para que me mate?
10 Your God YHWH lives, if there is a nation and kingdom to where my lord has not sent to seek [for] you; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it does not find you;
Vive Jehová tu Dios, que ni ha habido nación, ni reino donde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte: y respondiendo todos: No está aquí; él ha conjurado a reinos y a naciones, si te han hallado.
11 and now, you are saying, Go, say to your lord, Behold, Elijah;
Y ahora tú dices: Vé; di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías.
12 and it has been, I go from you, and the Spirit of YHWH lifts you up to where I do not know, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he does not find you, and he has slain me; and your servant is fearing YHWH from my youth.
Y acontecerá que desde que yo me haya partido de ti, el Espíritu de Jehová te llevará donde yo no sepa: y viniendo yo, y dando las nuevas a Acab, y no hallándote él, él me matará: y tu siervo teme a Jehová desde su mocedad.
13 Has it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel’s slaying the prophets of YHWH, that I hide one hundred men of the prophets of YHWH, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?
¿No ha sido dicho a mi señor lo que hice, cuando Jezabel mataba los profetas de Jehová; que escondí de los profetas de Jehová cien varones, de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los mantuve a pan y agua?
14 And now you are saying, Go, say to my lord, Behold, Elijah—and he has slain me!”
¿Y ahora dices tú: Vé; di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías, para que él me mate?
15 And Elijah says, “YHWH of Hosts lives, before whom I have stood, surely I appear to him today.”
Y díjole Elías: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, delante del cual estoy, que hoy me mostraré a él.
16 Obadiah goes to meet Ahab, and declares [it] to him, and Ahab goes to meet Elijah.
Entonces Abdías fue a encontrarse con Acab, y dióle el aviso: y Acab vino a encontrarse con Elías.
17 [And it] comes to pass at Ahab’s seeing Elijah that Ahab says to him, “Are you he—the troubler of Israel?”
Y como Acab vio a Elías, díjole Acab: ¿Eres tú él que alborotas a Israel?
18 And he says, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and the house of your father, in your forsaking the commands of YHWH, and you go after the Ba‘alim;
Y él respondió: Yo no he alborotado a Israel, sino tú, y la casa de tu padre, dejando los mandamientos de Jehová, y siguiendo a los Baales.
19 and now, send, gather all Israel to me, to the Mount of Carmel, and the four hundred and fifty prophets of Ba‘al, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah who are eating at the table of Jezebel.”
Envía pues ahora, y júntame a todo Israel en el monte de Carmelo, y los cuatrocientos y cincuenta profetas de Baal, y los cuatrocientos profetas de los bosques, que comen de la mesa de Jezabel.
20 And Ahab sends among all the sons of Israel, and gathers the prophets to the Mount of Carmel;
Entonces Acab envió a todos los hijos de Israel, y juntó los profetas en el monte de Carmelo:
21 and Elijah comes near to all the people and says, “Until when are you leaping on the two branches? If YHWH [is] God, go after Him; and if Ba‘al, go after him”; and the people have not answered him a word.
Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo cojearéis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si Jehová es Dios, seguídle: y si Baal, id en pos de él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.
22 And Elijah says to the people, “I have been left, by myself, a prophet of YHWH; and the prophets of Ba‘al [are] four hundred and fifty men;
Y Elías tornó a decir al pueblo: Solo yo he quedado profeta de Jehová; y de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos y cincuenta varones.
23 and let them give two bullocks to us, and they choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and place [it] on the wood, and place no fire; and I prepare the other bullock, and have put [it] on the wood, and I do not place fire—
Dénsenos pues dos bueyes, y escójanse ellos el uno, y córtenle en piezas, y pónganle sobre leña, mas no pongan fuego debajo; y yo aparejaré el otro buey, y le pondré sobre leña, y ningún fuego pondré debajo.
24 and you have called in the name of your god, and I call in the Name of YHWH, and it has been, the god who answers by fire—He [is] the God.” And all the people answer and say, “The word [is] good.”
Y vosotros invocaréis en el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré en el nombre de Jehová; y será, que el Dios que respondiere por fuego, sea el Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Es bien dicho.
25 And Elijah says to the prophets of Ba‘al, “Choose one bullock for yourselves, and prepare [it] first, for you [are] the multitude, and call in the name of your god, and place no fire.”
Entonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escojéos el un buey, y hacéd primero: porque vosotros sois los más: e invocád en el nombre de vuestros dioses: mas no pongáis fuego debajo.
26 And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare [it], and call in the name of Ba‘al from the morning even until the noon, saying, “O Ba‘al, answer us!” And there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.
Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado, y aparejáronle, e invocaron en el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: Baal respóndenos. Mas no había voz, ni quien respondiese: entre tanto ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho.
27 And it comes to pass, at noon, that Elijah mocks at them and says, “Call with a loud voice, for he [is] a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, and awakes.”
Y aconteció al mediodía, que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo: Gritád a alta voz; que dios es, quizá tiene negocio, o va en seguimiento, o va algún camino, o duerme, y despertará.
28 And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, until a flowing of blood [is] on them;
Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y sajábanse con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta derramar sangre sobre sí:
29 and it comes to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets until the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.
Y como pasó el mediodía, y ellos aun profetizasen hasta el tiempo del sacrificio del presente, y no había voz, ni quien respondiese, ni escuchase;
30 And Elijah says to all the people, “Come near to me”; and all the people come near to him, and he repairs the altar of YHWH that is broken down;
Entonces Elías dijo a todo el pueblo: Acercáos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se llegó a él, y él reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba a ruinado.
31 and Elijah takes twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of YHWH was, saying, “Israel is your name”;
Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había sido palabra de Jehová, diciendo: Israel será tu nombre;
32 and he builds an altar with the stones, in the Name of YHWH, and makes a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, around the altar.
Edificó con las piedras un altar en el nombre de Jehová: después hizo una regadera al rededor del altar, cuanto cupieran dos satos de simiente.
33 And he arranges the wood, and cuts the bullock in pieces, and places [it] on the wood, and says, “Fill four pitchers of water, and pour [them] on the burnt-offering, and on the wood”;
Después compuso la leña, y cortó el buey en piezas, y púsole sobre la leña.
34 and he says, “Do [it] a second time”; and they do [it] a second time; and he says, “Do [it] a third time”; and they do [it] a third time;
Y dijo: Henchíd cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramádla sobre el holocausto, y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacédlo otra vez, e hiciéronlo otra vez: Y dijo: Hacédlo la tercera vez. E hiciéronlo la tercera vez,
35 and the water goes around the altar, and he has also filled the trench with water.
De tal manera que las aguas corrían al rededor del altar, y había también henchido la reguera de agua.
36 And it comes to pass, at the going up of the [evening] present, that Elijah the prophet comes near and says, “YHWH, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known today that You [are] God in Israel, and that I, Your servant, have done the whole of these things by Your word;
Y como llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto, llegóse el profeta Elías, y dijo: Jehová Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto, que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tú siervo, y que por mandamiento tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.
37 answer me, O YHWH, answer me, and this people [then] knows that You [are] YHWH God; and You have turned their heart backward.”
Respóndeme Jehová, respóndeme, para que conozca este pueblo, que tú, oh Jehová, eres el Dios, y que tú volviste atrás el corazón de ellos.
38 And a fire falls [from] YHWH, and consumes the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and it has licked up the water that [is] in the trench.
Entonces cayó fuego de Jehová, el cual consumió el holocausto, y la leña, y las piedras, y el polvo, y aun las aguas que estaban en la reguera lamió.
39 And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, “YHWH, He [is] the God! YHWH, He [is] the God!”
Y viéndolo todo el pueblo, cayeron sobre sus rostros, y dijeron: Jehová es el Dios, Jehová es el Dios.
40 And Elijah says to them, “Catch the prophets of Ba‘al; do not let a man escape from them”; and they catch them, and Elijah brings them down to the Brook of Kishon, and slaughters them there.
Y díjoles Elías: Prendéd a los profetas de Baal, que no escape ninguno. Y ellos los prendieron: y llevólos Elías al arroyo de Cisón, y allí los degolló.
41 And Elijah says to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.”
Entonces Elías dijo a Acab: Sube, come, y bebe, porque una grande lluvia suena.
42 And Ahab goes up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah has gone up to the top of Carmel, and he stretches himself out on the earth, and he places his face between his knees,
Y Acab subió a comer y a beber, y Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmelo, y postrándose a tierra puso su rostro entre las rodillas,
43 and says to his young man, “Now go up, look attentively [toward] the way of the sea”; and he goes up and looks attentively, and says, “There is nothing”; and he says, “Turn back,” seven times.
Y dijo a su criado: Sube ahora, y mira hacia la mar. Y él subió, y miró, y dijo: No hay nada. Y él le volvió a decir: Vuelve siete veces.
44 And it comes to pass, at the seventh, that he says, “Behold, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.” And he says, “Go up, say to Ahab, Bind and go down, and the shower does not restrain you.”
Y a la séptima vez dijo: He aquí una pequeña nube, como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube de la mar. Y él dijo: Vé, y di a Acab: Unce el carro, y desciende, porque la lluvia no te ataje.
45 And it comes to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black—thick clouds and wind—and the shower is great; and Ahab rides, and goes to Jezreel,
Y aconteció estando en esto, que los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes, y viento, e hizo una gran lluvia. Y subiendo Acab vino a Jezrael.
46 and the hand of YHWH has been on Elijah, and he girds up his loins, and runs before Ahab, until your entering Jezreel.
Y la mano de Jehová fue sobre Elías, el cual ciñó sus lomos, y vino corriendo delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jezrael.
