1 John 4
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but prove the spirits, if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
愛する者たち。霊だからといって、みな信じてはいけません。それらの霊が神からのものかどうかを、ためしなさい。なぜなら、にせ預言者がたくさん世に出て来たからです。
2 In this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ having come in the flesh, it is of God,
人となって来たイエス・キリストを告白する霊はみな、神からのものです。それによって神からの霊を知りなさい。
3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus Christ having come in the flesh, it is not of God; and this is that of the antichrist, which you heard that it comes, and now it is already in the world.
イエスを告白しない霊はどれ一つとして神から出たものではありません。それは反キリストの霊です。あなたがたはそれが来ることを聞いていたのですが、今それが世に来ているのです。
4 You are of God, little children, and you have overcome them; because greater is He who [is] in you, than he who is in the world.
子どもたちよ。あなたがたは神から出た者です。そして彼らに勝ったのです。あなたがたのうちにおられる方が、この世のうちにいる、あの者よりも力があるからです。
5 They are of the world, because they speak of this from the world, and the world hears them;
彼らはこの世の者です。ですから、この世のことばを語り、この世もまた彼らの言うことに耳を傾けます。
6 we are of God; he who is knowing God hears us; he who is not of God, does not hear us; from this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
私たちは神から出た者です。神を知っている者は、私たちの言うことに耳を傾け、神から出ていない者は、私たちの言うことに耳を貸しません。私たちはこれで真理の霊と偽りの霊とを見分けます。
7 Beloved, may we love one another, because love is of God, and everyone loving has been begotten of God, and knows God;
愛する者たち。私たちは、互いに愛し合いましょう。愛は神から出ているのです。愛のある者はみな神から生まれ、神を知っています。
8 he who is not loving did not know God, because God is love.
愛のない者に、神はわかりません。なぜなら神は愛だからです。
9 In this was revealed the love of God in us, because God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we may live through Him;
神はそのひとり子を世に遣わし、その方によって私たちに、いのちを得させてくださいました。ここに、神の愛が私たちに示されたのです。
10 in this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son [as] the propitiation for our sins.
私たちが神を愛したのではなく、神が私たちを愛し、私たちの罪のために、なだめの供え物としての御子を遣わされました。ここに愛があるのです。
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another;
愛する者たち。神がこれほどまでに私たちを愛してくださったのなら、私たちもまた互いに愛し合うべきです。
12 no one has ever seen God; if we may love one another, God remains in us, and His love is having been perfected in us;
いまだかつて、だれも神を見た者はありません。もし私たちが互いに愛し合うなら、神は私たちのうちにおられ、神の愛が私たちのうちに全うされるのです。
13 in this we know that we remain in Him, and He in us, because of His Spirit He has given us.
神は私たちに御霊を与えてくださいました。それによって、私たちが神のうちにおり、神も私たちのうちにおられることがわかります。
14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son [as] Savior of the world;
私たちは、御父が御子を世の救い主として遣わされたのを見て、今そのあかしをしています。
15 whoever may confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God;
だれでも、イエスを神の御子と告白するなら、神はその人のうちにおられ、その人も神のうちにいます。
16 and we have known and believed the love that God has in us; God is love, and he who is remaining in love, remains in God, and God in him.
私たちは、私たちに対する神の愛を知り、また信じています。神は愛です。愛のうちにいる者は神のうちにおり、神もその人のうちにおられます。
17 In this, love has been perfected with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because even as He is, we also are in this world.
このことによって、愛が私たちにおいても完全なものとなりました。それは私たちが、さばきの日にも大胆さを持つことができるためです。なぜなら、私たちもこの世にあってキリストと同じような者であるからです。
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and he who is fearing has not been made perfect in love;
愛には恐れがありません。全き愛は恐れを締め出します。なぜなら恐れには刑罰が伴っているからです。恐れる者の愛は、全きものとなっていないのです。
19 we love Him, because He first loved us;
私たちは愛しています。神がまず私たちを愛してくださったからです。
20 if anyone may say, “I love God,” and may hate his brother, he is a liar; for he who is not loving his brother whom he has seen, how is he able to love God whom he has not seen?
神を愛すると言いながら兄弟を憎んでいるなら、その人は偽り者です。目に見える兄弟を愛していない者に、目に見えない神を愛することはできません。
21 And this [is] the command we have from Him, that he who is loving God, may also love his brother.
神を愛する者は、兄弟をも愛すべきです。私たちはこの命令をキリストから受けています。
