1 Corinthians 4
1 Let a man so reckon us as officers of Christ, and stewards of the secrets of God,
On doit donc nous considérer comme ministres de Christ et comme administrateurs des desseins cachés de Dieu.
2 and as to the rest, it is required in the stewards that one may be found faithful,
D'ailleurs, ce qu'on demande à des administrateurs, c'est de les trouver fidèles.
3 and to me it is for a very little thing that by you I may be judged, or by man’s Day, but I do not even judge myself,
Pour moi, il m'importe peu d'être jugé par vous ou par un tribunal humain. Je m'interdis aussi de me juger moi-même;
4 for I have been conscious of nothing for myself, but I have not been declared right in this—and He who is discerning me is the LORD:
ma conscience, certes, ne me reproche rien; mais ce n'est pas là ce qui me justifie, mon vrai juge est le Seigneur.
5 so, then, judge nothing before the time, until the LORD may come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of the darkness, and will reveal the counsels of the hearts, and then the praise will come to each from God.
Ne portez donc pas de jugement prématuré; attendez que le Seigneur vienne; il jettera la lumière sur les choses cachées dans l'ombre; il mettra en plein jour les volontés des coeurs; alors chacun recevra de Dieu l'éloge qu'il mérite.
6 And these things, brothers, I transferred to myself and to Apollos because of you, that in us you may learn not to think above that which has been written, that you may not be puffed up one for one against the other,
Si j'ai fait l'application de ces principes à Apollos et à moi-même, frères, c'est à cause de vous; pour que vous appreniez, par notre exemple, à ne pas dépasser de justes limites et que vous cessiez de vous enfler l'un au-dessus de l'autre et aux dépens d'un tiers.
7 for who makes you to differ? And what do you have, that you did not receive? And if you also received, why do you glory as not having received?
Qui donc t'accorde un privilège? que possèdes-tu que tu n'aies reçu? Si tu as reçu, pourquoi te vanter comme si tu n'avais pas reçu?
8 Already you are having been filled, already you were rich, apart from us you reigned, and I also wish you reigned, that we also may reign together with you,
Vous êtes donc déjà rassasiés! vous êtes donc déjà assez riches! vous êtes donc entrés sans nous dans le Royaume! Ah! que je voudrais que vous y fussiez entrés pour qu'il nous fût possible d'y entrer avec vous!
9 for I think that God set forth us the apostles last—as appointed to death, because we became a spectacle to the world, and messengers, and men;
Je pense, en effet, que Dieu a fait de nous autres apôtres les derniers des hommes et, pour ainsi dire, de malheureux condamnés à mort, puisque nous sommes donnés en spectacle, comme à l'amphithéâtre, au monde, aux anges et aux hommes.
10 we [are] fools because of Christ, and you wise in Christ; we [are] ailing, and you strong; you glorious, and we dishonored;
Nous sommes des fous à cause de Christ, vous, des sages en Christ! nous sommes faibles, vous êtes forts! vous êtes honorés, nous sommes obscurs!
11 to the present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are battered, and wander,
Jusqu'à cette heure, nous souffrons la faim, la soif, le dénûment, nous sommes insultés, nous menons une vie errante, nous travaillons sans relâche de nos mains;
12 and labor, working with [our] own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;
on nous maudit, et nous bénissons; on nous persécute, et nous supportons; on nous injurie, et nous exhortons;
13 being spoken evil of, we plead; we became as filth of the world—of all things an outcast—until now.
nous sommes, pour ainsi dire, les balayures du monde, le rebut de tous jusqu'à présent!
14 Not [as] putting you to shame do I write these things, but I admonish as my beloved children,
Je ne vous écris pas cela pour vous faire honte, mais je vous avertis comme mes enfants bien-aimés.
15 for if a myriad of child-conductors you may have in Christ, yet not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, through the good news, I begot you;
Car eussiez-vous des milliers de maîtres en Christ, vous n'avez pas plusieurs pères: c'est moi qui suis votre père en Jésus-Christ par la prédication de l'Évangile.
16 I call on you, therefore, become followers of me;
Je vous en conjure donc, suivez mon exemple;
17 because of this I sent to you Timotheus, who is my child, beloved and faithful in the LORD, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, according as everywhere in every assembly I teach.
c'est dans ce but que je vous envoie Timothée, qui est mon fidèle et bien-aimé fils dans le Seigneur; il vous rappellera quelle route je suis en Jésus-Christ, et comment j'enseigne partout dans toutes les Églises.
18 And some were puffed up as if I were not coming to you;
Certaines gens ont eu l'orgueil de prétendre que je ne viendrai plus vous voir.
19 but I will come quickly to you, if the LORD may will, and I will not know the word of those puffed up, but the power;
Je viendrai bientôt, au contraire, s'il plaît au Seigneur, et je connaîtrai les orgueilleux, non à ce qu'ils disent, mais à ce qu'ils font.
20 for not in word is the Kingdom of God, but in power.
Car le Royaume de Dieu ne se fonde pas avec des paroles, mais avec des actes.
21 What do you wish? Will I come to you with a rod, or in love, also with a spirit of meekness?
Que préférez-vous? que je vienne chez vous avec une verge ou avec amour et dans un esprit de douceur?
