1 Corinthians 10
1 And I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
En effet, mes frères, je ne veux pas que vous ignoriez que nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, qu'ils ont tous passé à travers la mer,
2 and all were immersed into Moses in the cloud, and in the sea;
qu'ils ont tous été baptisés en Moïse dans la nuée et dans la mer,
3 and all ate the same spiritual food,
qu'ils ont tous mangé du même aliment spirituel,
4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking of a spiritual rock following them, and the rock was the Christ;
et qu'ils ont tous bu du même breuvage spirituel; car ils buvaient à un rocher spirituel qui les suivait, et ce rocher était le Christ.
5 but in the most of them God was not well pleased, for they were strewn in the wilderness,
Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne furent point agréables à Dieu, puisqu'ils tombèrent morts dans le désert.
6 and those things became types of us, for our not passionately desiring evil things, as also these desired.
Tout cela est arrivé pour nous servir d'exemple, afin que nous ne nous abandonnions pas aux mauvaises convoitises, comme ils s'y abandonnèrent eux-mêmes.
7 Neither become idolaters, as certain of them, as it has been written: “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play”;
Ne soyez pas non plus idolâtres, comme le furent quelques-uns d'entre eux, ainsi qu'il est écrit: «Le peuple s'assit pour manger et pour boire; puis il se leva pour se divertir.»
8 neither may we commit whoredom, as certain of them committed whoredom, and there fell in one day twenty-three thousand;
Ne nous livrons pas à l'impudicité, comme quelques-uns d'entre eux s'y livrèrent; et vingt-trois mille tombèrent morts en un seul jour.
9 neither may we tempt the Christ, as also certain of them tempted, and perished by the serpents;
Ne tentons pas le Seigneur, comme quelques-uns d'entre eux le tentèrent; et ils périrent par les serpents.
10 neither murmur, as also some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.
Et ne murmurez point, comme quelques-uns d'entre eux murmurèrent; et ils périrent par l'exterminateur.
11 And all these things happened to those persons as types, and they were written for our admonition, to whom the end of the ages came, (aiōn g165)
Ces événements ont une signification typique, et ils ont été rapportés pour nous avertir, nous qui touchons à la fin des temps. (aiōn g165)
12 so that he who is thinking to stand—let him observe, lest he fall.
Ainsi donc, que celui qui croit être debout, prenne garde qu'il ne tombe.
13 No temptation has taken you—except that of man; and God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tempted above what you are able, but He will make, with the temptation, also the outlet, for your being able to bear [it].
Aucune des tentations qui vous sont survenues n'a été au-dessus des forces humaines. Dieu est fidèle, et il ne permettra pas que vous soyez jamais tentés au-delà de vos forces; mais il vous aidera à triompher de la tentation, en vous donnant la force de la supporter.
14 For this reason, my beloved, flee from the idolatry;
C'est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.
15 as to wise men I speak—judge what I say.
Je vous parle comme à des personnes intelligentes; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.
16 The cup of the blessing that we bless—is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? The bread that we break—is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ?
La coupe de bénédiction que nous bénissons, n'est-elle pas la communion au sang du Christ? Le pain que nous rompons, n'est-il pas la communion au corps du Christ?
17 Because one bread, one body, are we the many—for we all partake of the one bread.
Puisqu'il y a un seul pain, nous ne faisons qu'un seul corps, tout en étant plusieurs; car nous avons tous part au même pain.
18 See Israel according to the flesh! Are those not eating the sacrifices in the fellowship of the altar?
Voyez l'Israël selon la chair: ceux qui mangent les victimes, n'ont-ils pas communion avec l'autel?
19 What do I say then? That an idol is anything? Or that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything?
Est-ce à dire que ce qui est sacrifié à une idole ait quelque valeur, ou que l'idole soit quelque chose? Assurément non;
20 [No, ] but that the things that the nations sacrifice—they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not wish you to come into the fellowship of the demons.
mais ce que les Païens sacrifient, ils le sacrifient aux démons, et non pas à Dieu. Or, je ne veux pas que vous ayez communion avec les démons.
21 You are not able to drink the cup of the LORD and the cup of demons; you are not able to partake of the table of the LORD and of the table of demons;
Vous ne pouvez boire à la coupe du Seigneur et à la coupe des démons; vous ne pouvez participer à la table du Seigneur et à la table des démons.
22 do we arouse the LORD to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
Ou bien, voulons-nous provoquer la jalousie du Seigneur? Sommes-nous plus forts que lui?
23 All things are lawful to me, but not all things are profitable; all things are lawful to me, but not all things build up;
Tout est permis, mais tout n'est pas utile; tout est permis, mais tout n'édifie pas!
24 let no one seek his own—but each another’s.
Que personne ne cherche son propre intérêt, mais que chacun cherche celui d'autrui.
25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat-market, not inquiring, because of the conscience,
Mangez de tout ce qui se vend à la boucherie, sans poser aucune question à ce sujet, par motif de conscience;
26 for the earth and its fullness [are] the LORD’s;
car la terre est au Seigneur, avec tout ce qu'elle contient.
27 and if anyone of the unbelieving calls you, and you wish to go, eat all that is set before you, inquiring nothing, because of the conscience;
Si un infidèle vous invite et que vous vouliez aller chez lui, mangez de tout ce qu'on vous présente, sans poser aucune question par motif de conscience.
28 and if anyone may say to you, “This is a thing sacrificed to an idol,” do not eat, because of that one who showed [it], and of the conscience, for the LORD’s [is] the earth and its fullness:
Mais si quelqu'un vous dit: «Ceci a été offert en sacrifice» — alors, n'en mangez pas, à cause de celui qui vous a avertis, et aussi par conscience:
29 and conscience, I say, not of yourself, but of the other, for why [is it] that my liberty is judged by another’s conscience?
je ne parle pas de votre conscience, mais de celle de cet homme-là. Pourquoi, en effet, ma liberté tomberait-elle sous le jugement de la conscience d'autrui?
30 And if I partake thankfully, why am I spoken of [as] evil, for that for which I give thanks?
Si je mange avec actions de grâces, pourquoi serais-je blâmé au sujet d'un repas pour lequel je rends grâces?
31 Whether, then, you eat, or drink, or do anything, do all to the glory of God;
Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, ou que vous fassiez quelque autre chose, faites tout pour la gloire de Dieu.
32 become offenseless, both to Jews and Greeks, and to the Assembly of God;
Ne donnez de scandale ni aux Juifs, ni aux Grecs, ni à l'Église de Dieu;
33 as I also please all in all things, not seeking my own profit, but that of many—that they may be saved.
faites comme moi, qui m'efforce de complaire à tous en toutes choses, cherchant, non mon propre avantage, mais celui du plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.
