< 1 Chronicles 25 >
1 And David and the heads of the host separate for service, of the sons of Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun, who are prophesying with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals; and the number of the workmen is according to their service.
David and the leaders of the army selected some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to prophesy with harps, with stringed instruments, and with cymbals. Here is the list of the men who performed this service:
2 Of sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah; sons of Asaph [are] by the side of Asaph, who is prophesying by the side of the king.
From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph, under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the king's supervision.
3 Of Jeduthun, sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, [and Shimei, and] Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, by the side of their father Jeduthun; he is prophesying with a harp, for giving of thanks and of praise for YHWH.
From the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six in all, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who played the harp for giving thanks and praising Yahweh.
4 Of Heman, sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth;
From the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.
5 all these [are] sons of Heman, seer of the king in the things of God, to lift up a horn; and God gives fourteen sons and three daughters to Heman.
All these were the sons of Heman the king's prophet. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters to lift up his horn.
6 All these [are] by the side of their father in the song of the house of YHWH, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God; by the side of the king [are] Asaph, and Jeduthun, and Heman.
All these were under the direction of their fathers. They were musicians in Yahweh's house, with cymbals and stringed instruments as they served in God's house. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the king's supervision.
7 And their number, with their brothers taught in the song of YHWH—all who are intelligent—[is] two hundred and eighty-eight.
They and their brothers who were skilled and trained to make music to Yahweh numbered 288.
8 And they cause lots to fall, charge next to [charge], the small as well as the great, the intelligent with the learner.
They cast lots for their duties, all alike, the same for the young as well as the old, the teacher as well as the student.
9 And the first lot goes out for Asaph to Joseph; the second, Gedaliah—him, and his brothers and his sons—twelve;
Now regarding Asaph's sons: The first lot fell to Joseph's family; the second fell to Gedaliah's family, twelve persons in number;
10 the third, Zaccur, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the third fell to Zaccur, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
11 the fourth to Izri, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the fourth fell to Izri, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
12 the fifth, Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the fifth fell to Nethaniah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
13 the sixth, Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the sixth fell to Bukkiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
14 the seventh, Jesharelah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the seventh fell to Jesarelah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
15 the eighth, Jeshaiah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the eighth fell to Jeshaiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
16 the ninth, Mattaniah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the ninth fell to Mattaniah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
17 the tenth, Shimei, his sons and his brothers—twelve:
the tenth fell to Shimei, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
18 eleventh, Azareel, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the eleventh fell to Azarel, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
19 the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the twelfth fell to Hashabiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
20 for the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the thirteenth fell to Shubael, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
21 for the fourteenth, Mattithiah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the fourteenth fell to Mattithiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
22 for the fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the fifteenth fell to Jerimoth, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
23 the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the sixteenth fell to Hananiah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
24 the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the seventeenth fell to Joshbekashah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
25 the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the eighteenth fell to Hanani, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
26 the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the nineteenth fell to Mallothi, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
27 the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the twentieth fell to Eliathah, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
28 the twenty-first to Hothir, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the twenty-first fell to Hothir, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
29 the twenty-second to Giddalti, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the twenty-second fell to Giddalti, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
30 the twenty-third to Mahazioth, his sons and his brothers—twelve;
the twenty-third fell to Mahazioth, his sons and his relatives, twelve persons in number;
31 the twenty-fourth to Romamti-Ezer, his sons and his brothers—twelve.
