< 1 Chronicles 21 >
1 Then Satan stands up against Israel, and persuades David to number Israel,
Pea naʻe tuʻu hake ʻa Sētane ke fakakoviʻi ʻa ʻIsileli, pea naʻa ne fakalotoʻi ʻa Tevita ke ne lau hono tokolahi ʻo ʻIsileli.
2 and David says to Joab and to the heads of the people, “Go, number Israel from Beer-Sheba even to Dan, and bring [the account] to me, and I know their number.”
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita kia Soape, pea ki he ngaahi ʻeiki pule ki he kakai, Mou ʻalu ʻo lau hake ʻa ʻIsileli ʻo fai mei Peasipa ʻo aʻu atu ki Tani, pea ʻomi kiate au ʻa hono lau, koeʻuhi ke u ʻilo ai.
3 And Joab says, “YHWH adds to His people as they are one hundred times; are they not, my lord, O king, all of them for servants to my lord? Why does my lord seek this? Why is he for a cause of guilt to Israel?”
Pea naʻe tali ange ʻe Soape, Ke ngaohi ʻe Sihova ʻa hono kakai ke nau liunga teau hake ʻakinautolu ʻi honau tokolahi ko eni: ka ko eni, “ʻe hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi ʻikai ko e kau tamaioʻeiki ʻakinautolu kotoa pē, ʻa hoku ʻeiki?” Pea ka kuo pehē, “Ko e hā ʻa hono ʻuhinga ʻoe fie fai ʻae meʻa ni ʻe hoku ʻeiki? Ko e hā ʻoku ne fie hoko ai ko e fakahala ki ʻIsileli?”
4 And the word of the king [is] severe against Joab, and Joab goes out, and goes up and down in all Israel, and comes to Jerusalem.
Ka neongo ia naʻe mālohi hake kia Soape ʻae folofola ʻae tuʻi. Ko ia naʻe ʻalu ai ʻa Soape, mo ne ʻosiki ʻae potu kotoa pē ʻi ʻIsileli, mo ne haʻu ki Selūsalema.
5 And Joab gives the account of the numbering of the people to David, and all Israel is one million and one hundred thousand, each drawing sword, and Judah [is] four hundred and seventy thousand, each drawing sword.
Pea naʻe ʻange ʻe Soape ʻae lau ʻa hono toko fiha ʻoe kakai kia Tevita. Pea ko e kātoa ʻo ʻIsileli ko e kau tangata naʻe toʻo heletā, ko e tokotaha miliona mo e tokotaha kilu: pea ko e kakai ʻi Siuta naʻe toʻo heletā naʻe toko fā kilu mo e toko fitu mano.
6 And he has not numbered Levi and Benjamin in their midst, for the word of the king was abominable with Joab.
Ka naʻe ʻikai ke lau ai ʻakinautolu ʻo Livai pe ko Penisimani: he naʻe kovi lahi ʻaupito kia Soape ʻae lea ʻae tuʻi.
7 And it is evil in the eyes of God concerning this thing, and He strikes Israel,
Pea naʻe houhau ʻae ʻOtua koeʻuhi ko e meʻa ni; pea ko ia naʻa ne teʻia ai ʻa ʻIsileli.
8 and David says to God, “I have sinned exceedingly in that I have done this thing; and now, please cause the iniquity of Your servant to pass away, for I have acted very foolishly.”
Pea naʻe pehē ai ʻe Tevita ki he ʻOtua, “Kuo u fai angahala ʻo lahi, koeʻuhi ko ʻeku fai ʻae meʻa ni: ka ko eni, ʻoku ou kole kiate koe, ke ke hiki atu ʻae angahala ʻa hoʻo tamaioʻeiki; he kuo u fai vale ʻaupito.”
9 And YHWH speaks to Gad, seer of David, saying,
Pea naʻe folofola ʻa Sihova kia Kata ko e tangata kikite ʻo Tevita, ʻo pehē,
10 “Go, and you have spoken to David, saying, Thus said YHWH: I am extending three [choices] to you; choose one of these for yourself, and I do [it] to you.”
“Ke ke ʻalu ʻo tala kia Tevita, ʻo pehē, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, ʻOku ou tuku atu ʻae meʻa ko eni ʻe tolu, pea ke fili ʻe koe ha taha ʻi ai, koeʻuhi ke u fai ia kiate koe.
11 And Gad comes to David and says to him, “Thus said YHWH: Take for yourself—
Ko ia naʻe haʻu ai ʻa Kata kia Tevita, mo ne pehē kiate ia, ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, Ke ke fili ʻe koe:
12 either famine for three years, or three months to be consumed from the face of your adversaries (even [for] the sword of your enemies to overtake), or three days of the sword of YHWH (even pestilence in the land, and a messenger of YHWH destroying in all the border of Israel); and now, see; what word do I return to Him who is sending me?”
ʻAe honge ʻi he taʻu ʻe tolu; pe ko e tautea koe ʻi he ʻao ʻo ho ngaahi fili ʻi ha māhina ʻe tolu, lolotonga ʻae hoko kiate koe ʻae heletā ʻo ho ngaahi fili; pe ko e ʻaho ʻe tolu ʻoe heletā ʻo Sihova, ʻio, ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha ʻi he fonua, mo e fai ʻae fakaʻauha ʻe he ʻāngelo ʻa Sihova ʻi he ngaahi potu fonua kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli. Ko ia foki ke ke fakakaukau ʻe koe pe ko e hā ʻae lea te u toe ʻave kiate ia naʻa ne fekauʻi au.”
13 And David says to Gad, “I am greatly distressed, please let me fall into the hand of YHWH, for His mercies [are] very many, and do not let me fall into the hand of man.”
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita kia Kata, “ʻOku ou ʻefihia ʻaupito au tuku pe ke u hinga ki he nima ʻo Sihova he ʻoku lahi ʻaupito ʻa ʻene ngaahi ʻaloʻofa kaeʻoua naʻa tuku ke u tō ki he nima ʻoe tangata.”
14 And YHWH gives a pestilence in Israel, and there falls from Israel seventy thousand men,
Ko ia naʻe tuku ai ʻe Sihova ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha ki ʻIsileli: pea naʻe mate ʻoe kakai ʻIsileli ʻae kau tangata ʻe toko fitu mano.
15 and God sends a messenger to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he is destroying, YHWH has seen, and is comforted concerning the calamity, and says to the messenger who [is] destroying, “Enough now, cease your hand.” And the messenger of YHWH is standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,
Pea naʻe fekau atu ha ʻāngelo ʻe he ʻOtua ki Selūsalema, ke ne fakaʻauha ia; pea lolotonga ʻa ʻene fai ʻae fakaʻauha, naʻe vakai ʻe Sihova, pea naʻa ne liliu mei he kovi, mo ne pehē ki he ʻāngelo naʻe fai ʻae fakaʻauha, “Maʻu ʻā, kuo lahi, pea taʻofi eni ho nima.” Pea naʻe tuʻu ʻae ʻāngelo ʻa Sihova ʻi he veʻe matapā ʻoe hahaʻanga uite ʻo Olinani ko e tangata Sepusi.
16 and David lifts up his eyes, and sees the messenger of YHWH standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword [is] drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem, and David falls, and the elderly, covered with sackcloth, on their faces.
Pea naʻe hanga hake ʻe Tevita ʻa hono mata, pea naʻa ne mamata ki he ʻāngelo ʻa Sihova ʻoku ne tuʻu ʻi he vahaʻa ʻo māmani pea mo e langi, kuo toʻo ʻi hono nima ʻae heletā naʻe tuʻu tonu atu ki Selūsalema. Pea naʻe tō hifo ai ki honau mata ʻa Tevita mo e kau mātuʻa, kuo nau kofuʻaki ʻae tauangaʻa.
17 And David says to God, “Did I not command to number the people? Indeed, it [is] I who have sinned, and done great evil: and these, the flock, what did they do? O YHWH, my God, please let Your hand be on me, and on the house of my father, and not on Your people—to be plagued.”
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita ki he ʻOtua, “ʻIkai ko au ia naʻe fekau ke lau hake ʻae kakai? ʻIo, ko au pe ia kuo u angahala mo fai ʻae kovi moʻoni; ka ko e fanga sipi ko ʻena, ko e hā kuo fai ʻekinautolu? ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ʻoku ou kole kiate koe, ke ke tuku ho nima ke hoko kiate au, pea ki he fale ʻo ʻeku tamai; kaeʻoua naʻa ʻi hoʻo kakai ia, ke nau mamahi ai.”
18 And the messenger of YHWH commanded to Gad to say to David, “Surely David goes up to raise an altar to YHWH in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.”
Pea naʻe toki fekau ʻe he ʻāngelo ʻa Sihova kia Kata ke ne lea kia Tevita ʻo pehē, ke ʻalu hake ʻa Tevita mo ne fokotuʻu ha feilaulauʻanga kia Sihova, ʻi he potu hahaʻanga uite ʻo Olinani ko e tangata Sepusi.
19 And David goes up by the word of Gad, that he spoke in the Name of YHWH.
Pea naʻe ʻalu hake ʻa Tevita ʻi he lea ʻa Kata ʻaia naʻa ne lea ʻaki ʻi he huafa ʻo Sihova.
20 And Ornan turns back and sees the messenger, and his four sons [are] with him hiding themselves, and Ornan is threshing wheat.
Pea ʻi heʻene tafoki ʻa Olinani, mo ne mamata ki he ʻāngelo, naʻa ne fakafufū ia pea mo hono ngaahi foha ʻe toko fā. Pea ko e lolotonga eni ʻae haha ʻae uite ʻe Olinani,
21 And David comes to Ornan, and Ornan looks attentively and sees David, and goes out from the threshing-floor, and bows himself to David—face to the earth.
Mo ʻene hāʻeleange ʻa Tevita kia Olinani, naʻe sio atu ʻa Olinani ʻo ne mamata kia Tevita, pea naʻa ne ʻalu atu mei he hahaʻanga uite, mo ne tuʻulutui kia Tevita ʻaki ʻa hono mata ki he kelekele.
22 And David says to Ornan, “Give the place of the threshing-floor to me, and I build an altar to YHWH in it; give it to me for full price, and the plague is restrained from the people.”
Pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe Tevita kia Olinani, “Foaki mai ʻae potu hahaʻanga uite, koeʻuhi ke u langa ai ha feilaulauʻanga kia Sihova: te ke tuku mai ia ʻi ha totongi totonu ki ai: kaekehe ke taʻofi ʻae mahaki fakaʻauha mei he kakai.”
23 And Ornan says to David, “Take [it] to yourself, and my lord the king does that which is good in his eyes; see, I have given the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for a present; I have given the whole.”
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Olinani kia Tevita, “Ke ke maʻu ia moʻou, pea ke fai ʻe hoku ʻeiki ko e tuʻi ʻae meʻa ʻoku lelei ʻi hono fofonga ʻoʻona: vakai foki, ʻoku ou foaki ʻae fanga pulu ke ʻatu ko e feilaulau tutu, mo e nāunau ʻoe haha uite ke fefie ʻaki, pea mo e uite ke ʻatu ko e feilaulau meʻakai; ʻoku ou ʻatu ia kotoa pē.”
24 And King David says to Ornan, “No, for I surely buy [it] for full price; for I do not lift up that which is yours to YHWH, so as to offer a burnt-offering without cost.”
Ka naʻe pehē ʻe he tuʻi ko Tevita kia Olinani, “ʻIkai; ka te u fakatau moʻoni ia meiate koe ʻaki ʻa hono totongi totonu: koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai te u toʻo mai ʻae meʻa ʻaʻau maʻa Sihova, pe ʻatu taʻetotongi ha ngaahi feilaulau tutu.”
25 And David gives to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold [in] weight for the place;
Ko ia hono ʻange ʻe Tevita kia Olinani ke totongi ki he potu ko ia ʻae sikeli koula ʻe onongeau naʻe fakamamafa.
26 and David builds an altar to YHWH there, and offers burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and calls to YHWH, and He answers him from the heavens with fire on the altar of the burnt-offering.
Pea naʻe langa ʻi ai ʻe Tevita ha feilaulauʻanga kia Sihova, mo ne ʻatu ai ʻae ngaahi feilaulau tutu, mo e ngaahi feilaulau fakamelino, mo ne ui ai kia Sihova; pea naʻa ne tali ia mei he langi ʻaki ʻae afi naʻe [tō ]ki he feilaulauʻanga ʻoe feilaulau tutu.
27 And YHWH speaks to the messenger, and he turns back his sword to its sheath.
Pea naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ki he ʻāngelo; pea naʻa ne toe ʻai ʻa ʻene heletā ki hono ʻaiʻanga.
28 At that time, when David sees that YHWH has answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrifices there;
Pea ʻi he kuonga ko ia ʻi he mamata ʻa Tevita kuo tali ʻe Sihova kiate ia ʻi he hahaʻanga uite ʻo Olinani ko e tangata Sepusi, naʻa ne toki fai feilaulau ʻi he potu ko ia.
29 and the Dwelling Place of YHWH that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, [are] at that time at a high place in Gibeon;
He ko e fale fehikitaki ʻo Sihova ʻaia naʻe ngaohi ʻe Mōsese ʻi he toafa, pea mo e feilaulauʻanga ʻae feilaulau tutu, naʻe nofo ʻi he kuonga ko ia ʻi he potu māʻolunga ʻi Kipione.
30 and David is not able to go before it to seek God, for he has been afraid because of the sword of the messenger of YHWH.
Ka naʻe ʻikai faʻa ʻalu ʻa Tevita ki ai ke fehuʻi ki he ʻOtua: he naʻa ne manavahē koeʻuhi ko e heletā ʻoe ʻāngelo ʻo Sihova.
