< Zechariah 5 >
1 And I again lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold there was a flying roll[-book].
Then again I looked up and saw a flying scroll.
2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll, its length is twenty cubits, and its breadth ten cubits.
He said to me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll; twenty cubits long, ten cubits wide.”
3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of all the earth; for every one that stealeth as it is on this side shall be in an equal degree entirely destroyed, as also every one that sweareth [falsely] as it is on that side shall be likewise entirely destroyed.
Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes over the whole land. Every thief will be banished according to the writing on one side and everyone who lies under oath shall be banished according to the writing on the other side.
4 I bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones.
I have sent it out, says the Lord of hosts, and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in the midst of his house and will consume it with its timber and its stones.”
5 Then went forth the angel that spoke with me, and said unto me, Do but lift up thy eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Then the messenger who talked with me came forward, and said to me, “Look up and see what is now coming.”
6 And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their appearance through all the earth.
I said. “What is it?” He said, “It is a measuring basket, full of the guilt of the land.”
7 And, behold, there was lifted up a heavy [cover] of lead: and there was a certain woman sitting in the midst of the ephah.
A round leaden cover was lifted up, and there was a woman sitting in the middle of the basket.
8 And he said, This is the wickedness. And he cast her into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weighty lead cover upon the mouth thereof.
He said, “This is Wickedness.” He thrust her down into the midst of the basket and he pushed the round leaden cover back on its mouth.
9 Then did I lift up my eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, having the wind in their wings, and they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.
Then I looked up and saw two women, and the wind was in their wings. They had wings like the wings of a stork and they lifted up the basket between them.
10 Then said I to the angel that spoke with me, Whither are these bearing away the ephah?
Then I said to the messenger who talked with me, “Where are they taking the basket?”
11 And he said unto me, To build for it a house in the land of Shin'ar: and when this is erected, then will the other be set there upon its own base.
He said to me, “To build her a house in the land of Shinar. When it is prepared, they will rest the basket there.”
