< Zechariah 4 >

1 And the angel that spoke with me came back again, and waked me up, as a man that is wakened up out of his sleep;
And the messenger who is speaking with me turns back, and stirs me up as one who is stirred up out of his sleep,
2 And he said unto me, What art thou seeing? And I said, I have looked, and behold, there is a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon its top, and its seven lamps are thereupon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon its top:
and he says to me, “What are you seeing?” And I say, “I have looked, and behold, a lampstand of gold—all of it, and its bowl [is] on its top, and its seven lamps [are] on it, and twice seven pipes [are] to the lights that [are] on its top,
3 And two olive-trees are by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
and two olive-trees [are] by it, one on the right of the bowl and one on its left.”
4 And I commenced and said unto the angel that spoke with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
And I answer and speak to the messenger who is speaking with me, saying, “What [are] these, my lord?”
5 Then the angel that spoke with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these are? And I said, No, my lord.
And the messenger who is speaking with me answers and says to me, “Have you not known what these [are]?” And I say, “No, my lord.”
6 Then answered he and spoke unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
And he answers and speaks to me, saying, “This [is] a word of YHWH to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by a force, nor by power, But—by My Spirit, said YHWH of Hosts.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou wilt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone with shoutings of, Grace, grace unto it.
Who [are] you, O great mountain Before Zerubbabel—for a plain! And he has brought forth the top-stone, Cries of Grace, grace—[are] to it.”
8 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
And there is a word of YHWH to me, saying,
9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands shall complete it: and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you.
“Hands of Zerubbabel founded this house, And his hands finish it, And you have known that YHWH of Hosts Has sent Me to you.
10 For whoever even despised the day of [its] small beginning: yet will they rejoice when they see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel, with those seven; they are the eyes of the Lord, which hold a survey through all the earth.
For who trampled on the day of small things, They have rejoiced, And seen the tin weight in the hand of Zerubbabel, These seven [are] the eyes of YHWH, They are going to and fro in all the land.”
11 And I began, and said unto him, What are these two olive-trees upon the right side of the candle-stick and upon its left?
And I answer and say to him, “What [are] these two olive-trees, on the right of the lampstand, and on its left?”
12 And I began a second time, and said unto him, What are these two olive-branches, which are close by the two golden pipes which empty out of themselves the gold-colored oil?
And I answer a second time, and say to him, “What [are] the two branches of the olive trees that, by means of the two golden pipes, are emptying out of themselves the oil?”
13 And he said to me as followeth, Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said, No, my lord.
And he speaks to me, saying, “Have you not known what these [are]?” And I say, “No, my lord.”
14 Then said he, These are the two sons of the clear oil, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
And he says, “These [are] the two sons of the oil, who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth.”
