< Psalms 91 >

1 He who sitteth under the secret protection of the Most High, shall rest under the shadow of the Almighty.
Laus Cantici David. Qui habitat in adiutorio Altissimi, in protectione Dei cæli commorabitur.
2 I will say of the Lord, who is my refuge and my stronghold, my God, in whom I ever trust,
Dicet Domino: Susceptor meus es tu, et refugium meum: Deus meus sperabo in eum.
3 That he will surely deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the pestilence of destruction.
Quoniam ipse liberavit me de laqueo venantium, et a verbo aspero.
4 With his pinions will he cover thee, and under his wings shalt thou find shelter: shield and buckler is his truth.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night; nor of the arrow that flieth by day;
Scuto circumdabit te veritas eius: non timebis a timore nocturno,
6 Nor of the pestilence that stalketh in darkness; nor of the deadly disease that wasteth at noonday.
A sagitta volante in die, a negotio perambulante in tenebris: ab incursu, et dæmonio meridiano.
7 There shall fall at thy side a thousand, and ten thousand at thy right hand; unto thee [however] shall it not come nigh.
Cadent a latere tuo mille, et decem millia a dextris tuis: ad te autem non appropinquabit.
8 Only with thy eyes shalt thou behold it, and see the recompense of the wicked.
Verumtamen oculis tuis considerabis: et retributionem peccatorum videbis.
9 Because thou hast [said], The Lord is my protection, the Most High hast thou made thy refuge:
Quoniam tu es Domine spes mea: Altissimum posuisti refugium tuum.
10 No evil shall befall thee, nor shall any plague come nigh unto thy tent.
11 For his angels will he give charge concerning thee, to guard thee on all thy ways.
12 Upon [their] hands shall they bear thee, that thou mayest not dash against a stone thy foot.
13 Upon the fierce lion and asp shalt thou tread: thou shalt trample under foot the young lion and serpent.
Super aspidem, et basiliscum ambulabis: et conculcabis leonem et draconem.
14 Because he hath fixed his desire upon me, therefore will I release him: I will set him on high, because he knoweth my name.
Quoniam in me speravit, liberabo eum: protegam eum, quoniam cognovit nomen meum.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him: with him will I be in distress; I will deliver him, and grant him honor.
16 With length of days will I satisfy him, and I will let him see my salvation.
Longitudine dierum replebo eum: et ostendam illi salutare meum.
