Psalms 8

1 “To the chief musician upon Gittith, a psalm of David.” O Eternal One our Lord, how excellent is thy name on all the earth! thou who hast set thy majesty above the heavens.

Kumqondisi wokuhlabela. Ngendlela yegithithi. Ihubo likaDavida. Oh Thixo, Thixo wethu, ibizo lakho libabazeka kangaka emhlabeni wonke! Uyibekile inkazimulo yakho ngaphezulu emazulwini.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou founded [thy] might, because of thy opponents, that thou mightest bring to silence the enemy and him that seeketh vengeance.

Ukumisile ukudunyiswa yizindebe zabantwana lensane ngenxa yezitha zakho, ukuze uthulise isitha lomphindiseli.

3 When I behold thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast established: —

Nxa nginakana ngamazulu akho, umsebenzi weminwe yakho, inyanga lezinkanyezi ozibeke endaweni yazo,

4 What is the mortal, that thou rememberest him? and the son of man, that thou thinkest of him:

uyini umuntu osungaze uzihluphe ngaye na, indodana yomuntu ukuba uyinanze?

5 Yet thou hast made him but a little less than angels, and hast crowned him with honor and glory.

Wamenza waba mncinyazana kulezingilosi, wamethesa umqhele wodumo lobukhosi.

6 Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy hands; every thing hast thou placed beneath his feet:

Wamenza umbusi phezu kwemisebenzi yezandla zakho; wabeka zonke izinto ngaphansi kwezinyawo zakhe:

7 Flocks and herds altogether, and also the beasts of the field;

yonke imihlambi yezimvu leyenkomo lezinyamazana zeganga,

8 The birds of heaven, and the fishes of the sea, whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

izinyoni zasemkhathini lenhlanzi zolwandle, konke okuntsheza emanzini olwandle.

9 O Eternal One our Lord, how excellent is thy name on all the earth!

Oh Thixo, Thixo wethu, ibizo lakho libabazeka kangaka emhlabeni wonke!
