Psalms 8

1 “To the chief musician upon Gittith, a psalm of David.” O Eternal One our Lord, how excellent is thy name on all the earth! thou who hast set thy majesty above the heavens.

Pour la fin, pour les pressoirs, psaume de David. Seigneur, notre Seigneur, que votre nom est admirable dans toute la terre! Puisque votre magnificence est élevée au-dessus des cieux.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou founded [thy] might, because of thy opponents, that thou mightest bring to silence the enemy and him that seeketh vengeance.

De la bouche des enfants et de ceux qui sont à la mamelle, vous avez tiré une louange parfaite pour anéantir l’ennemi et son vengeur.

3 When I behold thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast established: —

Je considérerai vos cieux, les œuvres de vos doigts; la lune et les étoiles que vous avez affermies.

4 What is the mortal, that thou rememberest him? and the son of man, that thou thinkest of him:

Qu’est-ce qu’un homme, pour que vous vous souveniez de lui, et le fils d’un homme, pour que vous le visitiez?

5 Yet thou hast made him but a little less than angels, and hast crowned him with honor and glory.

Vous l’avez abaissé un peu au-dessous des anges, vous l’avez couronné de gloire et d’honneur,

6 Thou hast given him dominion over the works of thy hands; every thing hast thou placed beneath his feet:

Et vous l’avez établi sur les œuvres de vos mains.

7 Flocks and herds altogether, and also the beasts of the field;

Vous avez mis toutes choses sous ses pieds, brebis et bœufs, et de plus les animaux des champs;

8 The birds of heaven, and the fishes of the sea, whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

Les oiseaux du ciel, et les poissons de la mer qui parcourent les sentiers de la mer.

9 O Eternal One our Lord, how excellent is thy name on all the earth!

Seigneur notre Seigneur, que votre nom est admirable dans toute la terre!
