< Psalms 78 >

1 “A Maskil of Assaph.” Give ear, O my people, to my instruction: incline thy ear to the words of my mouth.
Maskili ti Asafu. Ẹ̀yin ènìyàn mi, ẹ gbọ́ ẹ̀kọ́ mi; tẹ́tí rẹ sí ọ̀rọ̀ ẹnu mi.
2 I will open with a parable my mouth: I will utter riddles out of ancient times;
Èmi ó la ẹnu mi ní òwe, èmi o sọ ohun ìkọ̀kọ̀, ohun ti ọjọ́ pípẹ́;
3 Which we have heard and know, and which our fathers have related unto us.
ohun tí a ti gbọ́ tí a sì ti mọ̀, ohun tí àwọn baba wa ti sọ fún wa.
4 We will not conceal them from their children, relating to the latest generation the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful deeds which he hath done.
Àwa kì yóò pa wọ́n mọ́ kúrò lọ́dọ̀ àwọn ọmọ, ní fífi ìyìn Olúwa, àti ipa rẹ̀ àti iṣẹ́ ìyanu tó ti ṣe hàn fún ìran tí ń bọ̀.
5 Yea, he established a testimony in Jacob, and instituted a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
Ó gbé ẹ̀rí kalẹ̀ ní Jakọbu o sì fìdí àṣẹ múlẹ̀ ní Israẹli, èyí tí ó pàṣẹ fún àwọn baba ńlá wa láti kọ́ àwọn ọmọ wọn,
6 In order that the latest generation might know them, even the children that are to be born; that they may arise and relate them to their children;
nítorí náà, àwọn ìran tí ń bọ̀ yóò mọ̀ wọ́n bẹ́ẹ̀ ni àwọn ọmọ tí a kò tí ì bí tí yóò dìde tí wọn yóò sọ fún àwọn ọmọ wọn.
7 That they may place in God their hope, and not forget the doings of God, but observe his commandments;
Nígbà náà ni wọ́n ò fi ìgbẹ́kẹ̀lé wọn sínú Ọlọ́run wọn kò sì ní gbàgbé iṣẹ́ Ọlọ́run ṣùgbọ́n wọn ó pa àṣẹ rẹ̀ mọ́.
8 And that they may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that had not directed their heart firmly, and whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Kí wọn kí ó má ṣe dàbí àwọn baba ńlá wọn, ìran alágídí àti ọlọ́tẹ̀, ìran tí ọkàn wọn kò ṣọ òtítọ́ si olóore, àti ẹ̀mí ẹni tí kò bá Ọlọ́run dúró ṣinṣin.
9 The children of Ephraim, like well-armed archers, that turn round on the day of battle,
Àwọn ọkùnrin Efraimu, tí ó há mọ́ ọ tí wọ́n mú ọrun, wọ́n yípadà ní ọjọ́ ogun
10 Kept not the covenant of God, and in his law they refused to walk;
Wọn kò pa májẹ̀mú Ọlọ́run mọ́ wọn sì kọ̀ láti máa gbé nínú òfin rẹ̀.
11 And they forgot his deeds, as also his wonders, which he had permitted them to see.
Wọ́n gbàgbé ohun tí ó ti ṣe, àwọn ìyanu tí ó ti fihàn wọ́n.
12 In the presence of their fathers did he do wonders, in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zo'an.
Ó ṣe ìyanu níwájú àwọn baba wọn ní ilẹ̀ Ejibiti, ní agbègbè Ṣoani.
13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters stand upright as a wall.
Ó pín òkun ní yà, ó sì mú wọn kọjá Ó mù kí omi náà dúró bi odi gíga.
14 And he led them with the cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.
Ní ọ̀sán, ó fi ìkùùkuu àwọsánmọ̀ ṣe amọ̀nà wọn àti ní gbogbo òru pẹ̀lú ìmọ́lẹ̀ iná.
15 He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the mighty deep.
Ó sán àpáta ní aginjù ó sì fún wọn ní omi mímu lọ́pọ̀lọ́pọ̀ bí ẹni pé láti inú ibú wá.
16 And he brought forth running streams out of the rock, and caused water to run down like rivers.
Ó mú ìṣàn omi jáde láti inú àpáta omi ṣíṣàn sílẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ bí odò.
17 But they repeated to sin yet more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
Wọ́n sì tún tẹ̀síwájú láti dẹ́ṣẹ̀ sí i ní ìṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Ọ̀gá-ògo ní aginjù.
18 And they tempted God in their heart, by asking food for their desire.
Wọ́n mọ̀ ọ́n mọ̀ dán Ọlọ́run wò nípa bíbéèrè fún oúnjẹ tí wọn bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún.
19 Yea, they spoke against God: they said, Will God be able to set in order a table in the wilderness?
Wọ́n sọ̀rọ̀-òdì sí Ọlọ́run, wí pé “Ọlọ́run ha lè tẹ́ tábìlì ní aginjù?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed: shall he also be able to give bread? or can he provide flesh for his people?
Nígbà tí ó lu àpáta, omi tú jáde, odò sì sàn lọ́pọ̀lọ́pọ̀ ṣùgbọ́n òun ha lè fún wa lóúnjẹ ó ha le pèsè ẹran fún àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀?”
21 Therefore, when the Lord heard this, he became wroth: and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also ascended against Israel,
Nígbà tí Olúwa gbọ́ wọn, ó bínú gidigidi; iná rẹ̀ sọ̀kalẹ̀ sí Jakọbu, ìbínú rẹ̀ sì rú sí Israẹli,
22 Because they had not believed in God, and had not trusted in his salvation.
nítorí wọn kò gba Ọlọ́run gbọ́, wọn kò sì gbẹ́kẹ̀lé ìgbàlà rẹ̀.
23 Then he ordained the skies from above, and the doors of heaven he opened;
Síbẹ̀ ó pàṣẹ fún ìràwọ̀ ojú ọ̀run, ó sì ṣí ìlẹ̀kùn ọ̀run sílẹ̀;
24 And he let rain down upon them manna to eat, and the corn of heaven gave he unto them.
Ó rọ manna fún àwọn ènìyàn láti jẹ, ó fún wọn ní ọkà láti ọ̀run.
25 Angels' bread did man eat: he sent them provision to satisfaction.
Àwọn ènìyàn jẹ oúnjẹ àwọn angẹli; Ó fún wọn ní oúnjẹ ní àjẹyó,
26 He caused an east wind to pass along the heavens; and he led forth by his strength the south wind.
Ó mú afẹ́fẹ́ ìlà-oòrùn láti ọ̀run wá ó mú afẹ́fẹ́ gúúsù wá nípa agbára rẹ̀.
27 And he let rain upon them flesh [as plentiful] as the dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea;
Ó rọ òjò ẹran sílẹ̀ sórí wọn bí erùpẹ̀ ilẹ̀, àti ẹyẹ abìyẹ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí iyanrìn etí òkun
28 And he let them fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
Ó jẹ́ kí wọn jáde ní ibùdó wọn, yíká àgọ́ wọn.
29 And they ate, and were greatly satisfied, and what they longed for he brought unto them.
Wọ́n jẹ, wọ́n sì yó jọjọ nítorí ó ti fún wọn ní ohun tí wọn fìtara bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún.
30 They were not estranged from their longing, yet was their food in their mouth:
Ṣùgbọ́n wọn kò kúrò nínú oúnjẹ tí wọn fìtara bẹ̀bẹ̀ fún, nígbà tí oúnjẹ wọn sì wà ní ẹnu wọn,
31 When the wrath of God ascended against them, and he slew some of the fattest of them, and the young men of Israel did he strike down.
ìbínú Ọlọ́run dìde sí wọn ó pa àwọn tí ó jùlọ nínú wọn, ó sì lu àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin Israẹli bolẹ̀.
32 With all this they sinned again, and believed not in his wonders.
Nínú gbogbo ìwọ̀nyí, wọ́n ń dẹ́ṣẹ̀ síwájú; nínú gbogbo iṣẹ́ ìyanu rẹ̀, wọ́n kò gbàgbọ́.
33 Therefore he caused their days to come to an end in nought, and their years in dread.
O fi òpin sí ayé wọn nínú asán àti ọdún wọn nínú ìpayà.
34 When he slew them, then did they seek him, and they returned and inquired earnestly after God.
Nígbàkígbà tí Ọlọ́run bá pa wọ́n, wọn yóò wá a kiri; wọn yóò fi ìtara yípadà sí i.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the most high God their redeemer.
Wọ́n rántí pé Ọlọ́run ní àpáta wọn; wí pé Ọlọ́run Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ ni olùràpadà àpáta wọn.
36 Nevertheless they prayed insincerely to him with their mouth, and with their tongue they lied unto him.
Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà náà ni wọ́n yóò pọ́n ọn pẹ̀lú ẹnu wọ́n wọ́n fi ahọ́n wọ́n purọ́ fún un;
37 For their heart was not firm with him, and they were not faithful in his covenant.
ọkàn wọn kò sòtítọ́ sí i, wọn kò jẹ́ olódodo sí májẹ̀mú rẹ̀.
38 But he, being merciful, forgave the iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not awaken all his fury.
Síbẹ̀ ó ṣàánú; ó dárí àìṣedéédéé wọn jì òun kò sì pa wọ́n run nígbà púpọ̀ ló ń yí ìbínú rẹ̀ padà kò sì ru ìbínú rẹ̀ sókè
39 And he remembered that they are but flesh, a spirit that passeth away, and returneth not again.
Ó rántí pé ẹlẹ́ran ara ni wọ́n, afẹ́fẹ́ tó ń kọjá tí kò lè padà.
40 How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, grieve him in the desert!
Nígbà gbogbo ní wọn ń ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí i ní aginjù wọn mú un bínú nínú ilẹ̀ tí ó di ahoro!
41 Yea, they once more tempted God, and set limits to the Holy One of Israel.
Síwájú àti síwájú wọ́n dán Ọlọ́run wò; wọ́n mú ẹni mímọ́ Israẹli bínú.
42 They remembered not his hand, the day when he ransomed them from the adversary;
Wọ́n kò rántí agbára rẹ̀: ní ọjọ́ tí ó rà wọ́n padà lọ́wọ́ àwọn aninilára,
43 When he displayed in Egypt his signs, and his wonderful tokens in the fields of Zo'an.
ní ọjọ́ tí ó fi iṣẹ́ ìyanu rẹ̀ hàn ní Ejibiti, àti iṣẹ́ àmì rẹ̀ ni ẹkùn Ṣoani
44 And he changed their rivers into blood; and their running streams, that they could not drink [of them].
Ó sọ omi wọn di ẹ̀jẹ̀; wọn kò lè mu láti odò wọn.
45 He sent out among them various wild beasts, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Ó rán ọ̀wọ́ eṣinṣin láti pa wọ́n run, àti ọ̀pọ̀lọ́ tí ó bá wọn jẹun.
46 And he gave unto the cricket their products, and their labor unto the locust.
Ó fi ọkà wọn fún láńtata, àwọn ìre oko wọn fún eṣú.
47 He slew with hail their vines, and their sycamore-trees with ice-bolts.
Ó fi yìnyín ba àjàrà wọn jẹ́ ó bá èso sikamore wọn jẹ́.
48 And he surrendered to the hail their cattle, and their herds to the lightning's flashes.
Ó fi ohun ọ̀sìn wọn fún yìnyín, agbo ẹran wọn fún mọ̀nàmọ́ná.
49 He let loose against them the fierceness of his anger, wrath and indignation, and distress, a host of angels of misfortune.
Ó mú kíkorò ìbínú rẹ̀ wá sí wọn lára, ìrunú àti ìkáàánú, àti ìpọ́njú, nípa rírán angẹli apanirun sí wọn.
50 He leveled a path for his anger; he withheld not from death their soul, and their life he surrendered to the pestilence;
Ó pèsè ipa fún ìbínú rẹ̀, òun kò gbà wọ́n lọ́wọ́ ikú, ṣùgbọ́n ó fi ẹ̀mí wọ́n fún àjàkálẹ̀-ààrùn.
51 And he smote all the first-born in Egypt; the first of their strength in the tents of Ham;
Ó kọlu àwọn àkọ́bí ọmọ ọkùnrin Ejibiti, olórí agbára wọn nínú àgọ́ Hamu.
52 But he caused his own people to depart like flocks, and guided them like a drove in the wilderness.
Ṣùgbọ́n ó mú àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ jáde bí ọ̀wọ́ ẹran; ó ṣọ́ wọn gẹ́gẹ́ bí àgùntàn nínú aginjù.
53 And he led them in safety, so that they felt no dread; but the sea covered over their enemies.
Ó dáàbò bò wọ́n dáradára, nítorí náà ni ẹ̀rù kò ṣe bà wọ́n ṣùgbọ́n òkun padé mọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá wọn.
54 And he brought them to his holy territory, even to this mount, which his right hand had acquired.
Bákan náà ni ó mú wọn wá sí etí ilẹ̀ mímọ́ rẹ̀ òkè tí ọwọ́ ọ̀tún rẹ̀ ti gbà
55 And he drove out from before them nations, and divided them by the measuring-line as an inheritance, and he caused to dwell in their tents the tribes of Israel.
Ó lé kèfèrí jáde níwájú wọn ó sì fi títa okùn pín ilẹ̀ náà fún wọn gẹ́gẹ́ bí ilẹ̀ ìní; ó mú àwọn ẹ̀yà Israẹli jókòó ní ilẹ̀ wọn.
56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the most high God, and his testimonies they kept not;
Ṣùgbọ́n wọn dán Ọlọ́run wò wọn sì ṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí Ọ̀gá-ògo; wọn kò pa àṣẹ rẹ̀ mọ́.
57 But swerved aside, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers; they turned about like a deceitful bow.

58 And they provoked him to anger with their high-places, and with their graven images they moved him to jealousy.
Wọ́n bí i nínú pẹ̀lú ibi gíga wọn; wọn rú owú rẹ̀ sókè nípa òrìṣà wọn.
59 God heard this, and he became wroth, and felt greatly disgusted with Israel;
Nígbà tí Ọlọ́run gbọ́ wọn, inú bí i gidigidi; ó kọ Israẹli pátápátá.
60 And he cast off the dwelling at Shiloh, the tabernacle where he had dwelt among men;
Ó kọ àgọ́ Ṣilo sílẹ̀, àgọ́ tí ó ti gbé kalẹ̀ láàrín àwọn ènìyàn.
61 And he gave up his strength unto captivity, and his glory into the adversary's hand.
Ó rán àpótí ẹ̀rí, agbára rẹ̀ lọ sí ìgbèkùn, dídán ògo rẹ̀ lọ sí ọwọ́ àwọn ọ̀tá.
62 And he surrendered his people unto the sword; and with his inheritance was he wroth.
Ó fi àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ lé idà lọ́wọ́, ó sì bínú sí àwọn ohun ìní rẹ̀.
63 His young men the fire devoured; and his virgins were not demanded in marriage.
Iná run àwọn ọ̀dọ́mọkùnrin wọn, àwọn ọmọbìnrin wọn kò sì ní orin ìgbéyàwó:
64 His priests fell by the sword; and his widows did not weep.

65 Then awoke the Lord as one that sleepeth, like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
Olúwa sì jí gẹ́gẹ́ bí ẹni ojú oorun, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ọkùnrin ti i jí kúrò nínú ìraníyè ọtí.
66 And he smote his enemies backward: a perpetual disgrace on them.
Ó kọlu àwọn ọ̀tá rẹ̀ padà; ó fi wọn sínú ìtìjú ayérayé.
67 Yet was he disgusted with the tent of Joseph, and of the tribe of Ephraim he made not choice;
Nígbà náà ni ó kọ́ àgọ́ Josẹfu, kò sì yan ẹ̀yà Efraimu,
68 But he chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
ṣùgbọ́n ó yan ẹ̀yà Juda, òkè Sioni, èyí tí ó fẹ́ràn.
69 And he built like high [mountains] his sanctuary, like the earth which he hath founded for ever.
Ó kọ́ ibi mímọ́ rẹ̀, ibi gíga, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ayé tí ó fi ìdí rẹ̀ múlẹ̀ títí láé.
70 And he made choice of David his servant, and took him from the sheep-folds:
Ó yan Dafidi ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀ ó mú láti inú àwọn agbo ẹran;
71 From following the ewes with young he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
Ó mú un jáde nínú ìtọ́jú àgùntàn láti jẹ́ olùṣọ́-àgùntàn àwọn ènìyàn rẹ̀ Jakọbu àti Israẹli ogún un rẹ̀.
72 And he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and by the skilfulness of his hands did he lead them.
Dafidi sì ṣọ́ wọn pẹ̀lú òtítọ́ inú ọkàn; pẹ̀lú ọwọ́ òye ni ó fi darí wọn.
