Psalms 78
1 “A Maskil of Assaph.” Give ear, O my people, to my instruction: incline thy ear to the words of my mouth.
Escucha, pueblo mío, mi instrucción. Inclina tus oídos a las palabras de mi boca.
2 I will open with a parable my mouth: I will utter riddles out of ancient times;
Abriré mi boca en proverbio. Declararé dichos de antaño de difícil comprensión,
3 Which we have heard and know, and which our fathers have related unto us.
Los cuales oímos y conocimos. Nos los relataron nuestros antepasados.
4 We will not conceal them from their children, relating to the latest generation the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful deeds which he hath done.
No los encubriremos a sus hijos. Contaremos a la generación venidera las alabanzas de Yavé, Y su poder y las maravillosas obras que hizo.
5 Yea, he established a testimony in Jacob, and instituted a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
Él estableció testimonio en Jacob, Y estableció Ley en Israel, La cual mandó a nuestros antepasados Que la enseñaran a sus hijos,
6 In order that the latest generation might know them, even the children that are to be born; that they may arise and relate them to their children;
A fin de que la generación venidera [la] supiera, Los hijos que iban a nacer, Con el fin de que se levantaran y la dijeran a sus hijos,
7 That they may place in God their hope, and not forget the doings of God, but observe his commandments;
Para que en ʼElohim depositen su confianza, Y no olviden las obras de ʼEL, Sino que guarden sus Mandamientos,
8 And that they may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that had not directed their heart firmly, and whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Y no sean como sus antepasados, Generación terca y rebelde, Generación que no preparó su corazón, Y su espíritu no fue fiel a ʼEL.
9 The children of Ephraim, like well-armed archers, that turn round on the day of battle,
Los hijos de Efraín, arqueros equipados, Dieron la espalda en el día de la batalla.
10 Kept not the covenant of God, and in his law they refused to walk;
No guardaron el Pacto de ʼElohim Y rehusaron andar en su Ley.
11 And they forgot his deeds, as also his wonders, which he had permitted them to see.
Olvidaron sus obras. Él hizo maravillas ante sus antepasados en la tierra de Egipto.
12 In the presence of their fathers did he do wonders, in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zo'an.
Delante de sus antepasados realizó maravillas en la tierra de Egipto. En el campo de Zoán
13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters stand upright as a wall.
Dividió el mar y los pasó. Detuvo las aguas como en una pila.
14 And he led them with the cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.
De día los guiaba con nube, Con resplandor de fuego toda la noche.
15 He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the mighty deep.
Hendió las peñas del desierto Y les dio a beber raudales sin medida.
16 And he brought forth running streams out of the rock, and caused water to run down like rivers.
Sacó arroyos de la peña Y las aguas corrieron como ríos.
17 But they repeated to sin yet more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
Pero ellos aún continuaron pecando contra Él. Se rebelaron contra ʼElyón en el desierto
18 And they tempted God in their heart, by asking food for their desire.
Y en sus corazones tentaron a ʼEL. Pidieron comida según su deseo.
19 Yea, they spoke against God: they said, Will God be able to set in order a table in the wilderness?
Hablaron contra ʼElohim: ¿Puede ʼEL preparar una mesa en el desierto?
20 Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed: shall he also be able to give bread? or can he provide flesh for his people?
Sí, Él golpeó la roca Y brotaron aguas y se desbordaron torrentes. ¿Puede Él dar también pan? ¿Proveerá carne para su pueblo?
21 Therefore, when the Lord heard this, he became wroth: and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also ascended against Israel,
Por tanto, oyó Yavé y se indignó. Un fuego se encendió contra Jacob, Y una ira subió contra Israel,
22 Because they had not believed in God, and had not trusted in his salvation.
Por cuanto no creyeron en ʼElohim, Ni confiaron en su salvación.
23 Then he ordained the skies from above, and the doors of heaven he opened;
Sin embargo, mandó a las nubes desde arriba, Y abrió las puertas del cielo.
24 And he let rain down upon them manna to eat, and the corn of heaven gave he unto them.
Hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer Y les dio alimento del cielo.
25 Angels' bread did man eat: he sent them provision to satisfaction.
Pan de ángeles comió el hombre. Les envió comida en abundancia.
26 He caused an east wind to pass along the heavens; and he led forth by his strength the south wind.
Sopló en el cielo el viento del este Y con su poder atrajo el viento del sur.
27 And he let rain upon them flesh [as plentiful] as the dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea;
Esparció sobre ellos carne como polvo, Criaturas aladas como la arena de los mares.
28 And he let them fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
Las soltó en medio del campamento alrededor de sus tiendas.
29 And they ate, and were greatly satisfied, and what they longed for he brought unto them.
Comieron y se hartaron, Y les cumplió su deseo.
30 They were not estranged from their longing, yet was their food in their mouth:
Antes que ellos saciaran su apetito, Cuando la comida estaba en sus bocas,
31 When the wrath of God ascended against them, and he slew some of the fattest of them, and the young men of Israel did he strike down.
Surgió contra ellos la ira divina Que mató a algunos de los fornidos de ellos Y sometió a los jóvenes escogidos de Israel.
32 With all this they sinned again, and believed not in his wonders.
A pesar de eso, siguieron en pecado Y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas.
33 Therefore he caused their days to come to an end in nought, and their years in dread.
Por tanto consumió sus días en vanidad, Y sus años en temor.
34 When he slew them, then did they seek him, and they returned and inquired earnestly after God.
Cuando los hería de muerte, Lo buscaban. Se arrepentían y con diligencia lo buscaban.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the most high God their redeemer.
Se acordaban que ʼElohim era su Roca, Y ʼEL, ʼElyón, su Redentor.
36 Nevertheless they prayed insincerely to him with their mouth, and with their tongue they lied unto him.
Lo lisonjeaban con su boca Y le mentían con su lengua.
37 For their heart was not firm with him, and they were not faithful in his covenant.
Pues sus corazones no eran firmes hacia Él, Ni eran fieles a su Pacto.
38 But he, being merciful, forgave the iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not awaken all his fury.
Pero Él por misericordia perdonó su iniquidad Y no los destruyó. Con frecuencia contuvo su ira Y no despertó todo su enojo.
39 And he remembered that they are but flesh, a spirit that passeth away, and returneth not again.
Recordó que no eran sino carne, Un soplo que pasa y no regresa.
40 How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, grieve him in the desert!
¡Cuán a menudo se rebelaron contra Él en el desierto Y lo contristaron en terreno no habitado!
41 Yea, they once more tempted God, and set limits to the Holy One of Israel.
Vez tras vez tentaron a ʼEL. Irritaron al Santo de Israel.
42 They remembered not his hand, the day when he ransomed them from the adversary;
No se acordaron de su poder, Del día cuando los redimió del adversario:
43 When he displayed in Egypt his signs, and his wonderful tokens in the fields of Zo'an.
Cuando realizó en Egipto sus señales, Y sus maravillas en la tierra de Zoán.
44 And he changed their rivers into blood; and their running streams, that they could not drink [of them].
Cuando convirtió sus ríos en sangre, Y ellos no pudieron beber de sus manantiales.
45 He sent out among them various wild beasts, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
Cuando envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los devoraban Y ranas que los destruían.
46 And he gave unto the cricket their products, and their labor unto the locust.
Cuando entregó a los saltamontes sus cosechas Y el fruto de su trabajo a la langosta.
47 He slew with hail their vines, and their sycamore-trees with ice-bolts.
Él destruyó sus viñas con granizo Y sus sicómoros con escarcha.
48 And he surrendered to the hail their cattle, and their herds to the lightning's flashes.
Él entregó al granizo sus vacadas Y a los rayos sus ganados.
49 He let loose against them the fierceness of his anger, wrath and indignation, and distress, a host of angels of misfortune.
Envió sobre ellos su ardiente ira, Enojo, indignación y angustia, Una banda de mensajeros destructores.
50 He leveled a path for his anger; he withheld not from death their soul, and their life he surrendered to the pestilence;
Él dispuso un camino para su ira Y no libró sus vidas de la muerte. Entregó sus vidas a la pestilencia
51 And he smote all the first-born in Egypt; the first of their strength in the tents of Ham;
E hirió a todos los primogénitos de Egipto, Las primicias de su virilidad en las tiendas de Cam.
52 But he caused his own people to depart like flocks, and guided them like a drove in the wilderness.
Pero dirigió a su pueblo como ovejas, Y como rebaño los guió por el desierto.
53 And he led them in safety, so that they felt no dread; but the sea covered over their enemies.
Los condujo con seguridad para que no temieran, Pero el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.
54 And he brought them to his holy territory, even to this mount, which his right hand had acquired.
Los llevó hasta la frontera de su Tierra Santa, Al país montañoso que adquirió su mano derecha.
55 And he drove out from before them nations, and divided them by the measuring-line as an inheritance, and he caused to dwell in their tents the tribes of Israel.
Echó a las naciones de delante de ellos. Con medida [les] repartió las tierras de ellos en heredad, E hizo que las tribus de Israel vivieran en sus tiendas.
56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the most high God, and his testimonies they kept not;
Pero ellos tentaron y provocaron a ʼElyón ʼElohim Y no guardaron sus Testimonios.
57 But swerved aside, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers; they turned about like a deceitful bow.
Regresaron y actuaron deslealmente como sus antepasados. Tal como sus antepasados, fueron desleales. Se desviaron como arco torcido.
58 And they provoked him to anger with their high-places, and with their graven images they moved him to jealousy.
Lo provocaron con sus lugares altos Y despertaron su celo con sus imágenes de talla.
59 God heard this, and he became wroth, and felt greatly disgusted with Israel;
Cuando ʼElohim oyó, se indignó Y aborreció a Israel en gran manera.
60 And he cast off the dwelling at Shiloh, the tabernacle where he had dwelt among men;
Por lo cual abandonó el Tabernáculo de Silo, El Tabernáculo que estableció entre los hombres.
61 And he gave up his strength unto captivity, and his glory into the adversary's hand.
Entregó su poder a la cautividad Y su resplandor en mano del adversario.
62 And he surrendered his people unto the sword; and with his inheritance was he wroth.
Entregó también su pueblo a la espada Y se indignó contra su heredad.
63 His young men the fire devoured; and his virgins were not demanded in marriage.
El fuego devoró a sus jóvenes, Y sus doncellas no tuvieron cantos nupciales.
64 His priests fell by the sword; and his widows did not weep.
Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada, Y sus viudas no hicieron lamentación.
65 Then awoke the Lord as one that sleepeth, like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
Pero entonces, como el que duerme, Como un valiente que se recupera del vino Despertó ʼAdonay
66 And he smote his enemies backward: a perpetual disgrace on them.
E hirió a sus adversarios por detrás. Puso sobre ellos afrenta perpetua.
67 Yet was he disgusted with the tent of Joseph, and of the tribe of Ephraim he made not choice;
Desechó la tienda de José Y no eligió a la tribu de Efraín,
68 But he chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.
Sino escogió a la tribu de Judá Y la Montaña de Sion, que Él amó.
69 And he built like high [mountains] his sanctuary, like the earth which he hath founded for ever.
Construyó en las alturas su Santuario Como la tierra que fundó para siempre.
70 And he made choice of David his servant, and took him from the sheep-folds:
También escogió a David, su esclavo, Y lo tomó de los rebaños.
71 From following the ewes with young he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
Lo trajo de detrás de las ovejas que tenían crías Para que apacentara a Jacob su pueblo Y a Israel su heredad.
72 And he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and by the skilfulness of his hands did he lead them.
Los pastoreó según la integridad de su corazón, Y los guió con la destreza de sus manos.
