Psalms 78

1 “A Maskil of Assaph.” Give ear, O my people, to my instruction: incline thy ear to the words of my mouth.

१आसाफाचे स्तोत्र अहो माझ्या लोकांनो, माझी शिकवण ऐका, माझ्या तोंडच्या वचनाकडे लक्ष द्या.

2 I will open with a parable my mouth: I will utter riddles out of ancient times;

२मी शहाणपणाचे गीत गाईन; मी पूर्वकाळच्या गुप्त गोष्टीबद्दल सांगेन.

3 Which we have heard and know, and which our fathers have related unto us.

३ज्या आम्ही ऐकल्या आणि ज्या आम्हास समजल्या, त्या आमच्या वाडवडिलांनी आम्हास सांगितल्या.

4 We will not conceal them from their children, relating to the latest generation the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful deeds which he hath done.

४त्या आम्ही त्यांच्या वंशजापासून गुप्त ठेवणार नाही. त्या आम्ही पुढील पिढीला परमेश्वराची स्तुत्य कृत्ये, त्याचे सामर्थ्य आणि त्याने केलेले आश्चर्ये कृत्ये सांगू.

5 Yea, he established a testimony in Jacob, and instituted a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

५कारण त्याने याकोबात निर्बंध स्थापले आणि इस्राएलासाठी नियमशास्त्र नेमले. त्याने आमच्या पूर्वजांना आज्ञा दिल्या की, त्यांनी त्या आपल्या मुलांना शिकवाव्या.

6 In order that the latest generation might know them, even the children that are to be born; that they may arise and relate them to their children;

६त्याने ही आज्ञा यासाठी दिली की, पुढच्या पिढीने म्हणजे जी मुले जन्माला येतील, त्यांनी त्या आज्ञा जाणाव्या, त्या आपल्या स्वतःच्या मुलांना सांगाव्या.

7 That they may place in God their hope, and not forget the doings of God, but observe his commandments;

७मग ते आपली आशा देवावर ठेवतील आणि त्याची कृत्ये विसरणार नाहीत परंतु त्याच्या आज्ञा पाळतील.

8 And that they may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that had not directed their heart firmly, and whose spirit was not faithful to God.

८तर त्यांनी आपल्या पूर्वजासारखे हट्टी आणि बंडखोर पिढी होऊ नये, त्यांनी आपले अंतःकरण योग्य राखले नाही, आणि जिचा आत्मा देवाला समर्पित व प्रामाणिक नव्हता.

9 The children of Ephraim, like well-armed archers, that turn round on the day of battle,

९एफ्राइमाचे वंशज धनुष्यासह सशस्र होती, परंतु त्यांनी युद्धाच्यादिवशी पाठ फिरवली.

10 Kept not the covenant of God, and in his law they refused to walk;

१०त्यांनी देवाबरोबर करार पाळला नाही, आणि त्यांनी त्याचे नियमशास्त्र पाळण्याचे नाकारले.

11 And they forgot his deeds, as also his wonders, which he had permitted them to see.

११ते त्याची कृत्ये व त्याने दाखवलेली विस्मयकारक गोष्टी ते विसरले.

12 In the presence of their fathers did he do wonders, in the land of Egypt, in the fields of Zo'an.

१२मिसर देशातल्या सोअन प्रांतात त्यांच्या वडिलांच्या दृष्टीसमोर त्याने आश्चर्यकारक गोष्टी केल्या.

13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters stand upright as a wall.

१३त्याने समुद्र दुभागला आणि त्यांना पलिकडे नेले, त्याने पाणी भिंतीसारखे उभे केले.

14 And he led them with the cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.

१४तो त्यांना दिवसा मेघ व रात्रभर अग्नीच्या प्रकाशात मार्ग दाखवित घेऊन जात असे.

15 He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the mighty deep.

१५त्याने रानात खडक फोडला, आणि समुद्राची खोली पुरे भरण्यापर्यंत त्यांना विपुल पाणी दिले.

16 And he brought forth running streams out of the rock, and caused water to run down like rivers.

१६त्याने खडकातून पाण्याचे प्रवाह आणि नदीसारखे पाणी बाहेर वाहविले.

17 But they repeated to sin yet more against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.

१७तरी ते त्याच्याविरुध्द पाप करितच राहिले. रानात परात्पराविरूद्ध बंड केले.

18 And they tempted God in their heart, by asking food for their desire.

१८नंतर त्यांनी आपली भूक तृप्त करण्यासाठी, अन्न मागून आपल्या मनात देवाला आव्हान दिले.

19 Yea, they spoke against God: they said, Will God be able to set in order a table in the wilderness?

१९ते देवाविरूद्ध बोलले, ते म्हणाले, “देव खरोखर आम्हास रानात भोजन देऊ शकेल का?

20 Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed: shall he also be able to give bread? or can he provide flesh for his people?

२०पहा, त्याने खडकावर प्रहार केला तेव्हा पाणी उसळून बाहेर पडले, आणि पाण्याचे प्रवाह भरून वाहू लागले. पण भाकरही देऊ शकेल काय? तो आपल्या लोकांसाठी मांसाचा पुरवठा करील काय?”

21 Therefore, when the Lord heard this, he became wroth: and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also ascended against Israel,

२१जेव्हा परमेश्वराने हे ऐकले, तेव्हा तो रागावला; म्हणून याकोबावर त्याचा अग्नि भडकला, आणि त्याच्या रागाने इस्राएलवर हल्ला केला,

22 Because they had not believed in God, and had not trusted in his salvation.

२२कारण त्यांनी देवावर विश्वास ठेवला नाही, आणि त्याच्या तारणावर भरवसा ठेवला नाही.

23 Then he ordained the skies from above, and the doors of heaven he opened;

२३तरी त्याने वर आभाळाला आज्ञा दिली, आणि आभाळाचे दरवाजे उघडले.

24 And he let rain down upon them manna to eat, and the corn of heaven gave he unto them.

२४खाण्यासाठी त्याने त्यांच्यावर मान्नाचा वर्षाव केला, आणि त्यांना आकाशातून धान्य दिले.

25 Angels' bread did man eat: he sent them provision to satisfaction.

२५देवदूतांची भाकर लोकांनी खाल्ली. त्याने त्यांना भरपूर अन्न पाठवून दिले.

26 He caused an east wind to pass along the heavens; and he led forth by his strength the south wind.

२६त्याने आकाशात पूर्वेचा वारा वाहविला, आणि त्याच्या सामर्थ्याने त्याने दक्षिणेच्या वाऱ्याला मार्ग दाखवला.

27 And he let rain upon them flesh [as plentiful] as the dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea;

२७त्याने त्यांच्यावर धुळीप्रमाणे मांसाचा आणि समुद्रातील वाळूप्रमाणे असंख्य पक्षांचा वर्षाव केला.

28 And he let them fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

२८ते त्यांच्या छावणीच्यामध्ये पडले, त्यांच्या तंबूच्या सर्व सभोवती पडले.

29 And they ate, and were greatly satisfied, and what they longed for he brought unto them.

२९मग त्यांनी ते खाल्ले आणि तृप्त झाले. त्यांच्या हावेप्रमाणे त्याने त्यांना दिले.

30 They were not estranged from their longing, yet was their food in their mouth:

३०पण अजून त्यांची तृप्ती झाली नव्हती; त्यांचे अन्न त्यांच्या तोडांतच होते.

31 When the wrath of God ascended against them, and he slew some of the fattest of them, and the young men of Israel did he strike down.

३१त्याच क्षणाला, देवाच्या कोपाने त्याच्यावर हल्ला केला, आणि त्यांच्यातील बलवानास मारून टाकले. त्याने इस्राएलाच्या तरुणास हाणून पाडले.

32 With all this they sinned again, and believed not in his wonders.

३२इतके झाले तरी ते पाप करितच राहीले, आणि त्यांनी त्याच्या आश्चर्यकारक कृत्यांवर विश्वास ठेवला नाही.

33 Therefore he caused their days to come to an end in nought, and their years in dread.

३३म्हणून देवाने त्यांचे दिवस थोडके केले; त्यांचे आयुष्य भयानक भयात संपवले.

34 When he slew them, then did they seek him, and they returned and inquired earnestly after God.

३४जेव्हा कधी देवाने त्यांना पीडिले, तेव्हा त्यांनी त्याचा शोध घेण्यास सुरवात केली. उत्सुकतेने ते त्याच्याकडे वळले.

35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the most high God their redeemer.

३५देव आमचा खडक आहे, आणि परात्पर देव आमचा सोडवणारा याची आठवण त्यांना झाली.

36 Nevertheless they prayed insincerely to him with their mouth, and with their tongue they lied unto him.

३६पण त्यांनी आपल्या मुखाने त्याची खोटी स्तुती केली आणि आपल्या जीभेने त्याच्याजवळ लबाडी केली.

37 For their heart was not firm with him, and they were not faithful in his covenant.

३७कारण त्यांचे मन त्यांच्याठायी स्थिर नव्हते, आणि ते त्याच्या कराराशी एकनिष्ठ नव्हते.

38 But he, being merciful, forgave the iniquity, and destroyed [them] not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not awaken all his fury.

३८परंतु तो दयाळू असल्यामुळे त्यांच्या अपराधांची क्षमा करतो आणि त्याने त्यांचा नाश केला नाही. होय, तो अनेक वेळा आपला राग आवरून धरतो, आणि आपला सर्व राग भडकू देत नाही.

39 And he remembered that they are but flesh, a spirit that passeth away, and returneth not again.

३९ती केवळ देह आहेत, वारा वाहून निघून जातो आणि तो परत येत नाही याची त्याने आठवण केली.

40 How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, grieve him in the desert!

४०त्यांनी किती वेळा रानात त्याच्याविरुध्द बंडखोरी केली, आणि पडिक प्रदेशात त्यांनी त्यास दु: खी केले.

41 Yea, they once more tempted God, and set limits to the Holy One of Israel.

४१पुन्हा आणि पुन्हा देवाला आव्हान केले, आणि इस्राएलाच्या पवित्र प्रभूला खूप दु: खविले.

42 They remembered not his hand, the day when he ransomed them from the adversary;

४२त्यांनी त्याच्या सामर्थ्याविषयी विचार केला नाही, त्याने त्यांना शत्रूपासून कसे सोडवले होते.

43 When he displayed in Egypt his signs, and his wonderful tokens in the fields of Zo'an.

४३मिसरात जेव्हा त्याने आपली घाबरून सोडणारी चिन्हे आणि सोअनाच्या प्रांतात आपले चमत्कारही दाखविले ते विसरले.

44 And he changed their rivers into blood; and their running streams, that they could not drink [of them].

४४त्याने मिसऱ्यांच्या नद्यांचे रक्तात रुपांतर केले. म्हणून त्याच्या प्रवाहातील पाणी त्यांच्याने पिववेना.

45 He sent out among them various wild beasts, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

४५त्याने चावणाऱ्या माशांचे थवे पाठवले त्यांनी त्यांना खाऊन टाकले, आणि बेडकांनी त्यांचा देश आच्छादला.

46 And he gave unto the cricket their products, and their labor unto the locust.

४६त्याने त्यांची पिके नाकतोड्यांच्या हवाली आणि त्यांच्या श्रमाचे फळ टोळाला दिले.

47 He slew with hail their vines, and their sycamore-trees with ice-bolts.

४७त्याने गारांनी त्यांच्या द्राक्षवेलींचा आणि त्यांच्या उंबराच्या झाडांचा नाश बर्फाने केला.

48 And he surrendered to the hail their cattle, and their herds to the lightning's flashes.

४८त्याने त्यांची गुरेढोरे गारांच्या व त्यांचे कळप विजांच्या हवाली केली.

49 He let loose against them the fierceness of his anger, wrath and indignation, and distress, a host of angels of misfortune.

४९त्यांने आपल्या भयंकर रागाने त्यांच्याविरुद्ध तडाखे दिले. त्याने अरिष्ट आणणाऱ्या प्रतिनीधीप्रमाणे आपला क्रोध, प्रकोप आणि संकट पाठवले.

50 He leveled a path for his anger; he withheld not from death their soul, and their life he surrendered to the pestilence;

५०त्याने आपल्या रागासाठी मार्ग सपाट केला; त्याने त्यांना मरणापासून वाचविले नाही पण त्याने त्यांना मरीच्या हवाली केले.

51 And he smote all the first-born in Egypt; the first of their strength in the tents of Ham;

५१त्याने मिसरमध्ये प्रथम जन्मलेले सर्व, हामाच्या तंबूतील त्यांच्या शक्तीचे प्रथम जन्मलेले मारून टाकले.

52 But he caused his own people to depart like flocks, and guided them like a drove in the wilderness.

५२त्याने आपल्या लोकांस मेंढरांसारखे बाहेर नेले आणि त्याने त्याच्या कळपाप्रमाणे रानातून नेले.

53 And he led them in safety, so that they felt no dread; but the sea covered over their enemies.

५३त्याने त्यांना सुखरुप आणि न भीता मार्गदर्शन केले, पण समुद्राने त्यांच्या शत्रूंना बुडवून टाकले.

54 And he brought them to his holy territory, even to this mount, which his right hand had acquired.

५४आणि त्याने त्यास आपल्या पवित्र देशात, हा जो पर्वत आपल्या उजव्या हाताने मिळवला त्याकडे आणले.

55 And he drove out from before them nations, and divided them by the measuring-line as an inheritance, and he caused to dwell in their tents the tribes of Israel.

५५त्याने त्यांच्यापुढून राष्ट्रांना हाकलून लावली, आणि त्यांना त्यांची वतने सूत्राने मापून नेमून दिली; आणि त्यांच्या तंबूत इस्राएलाचे वंश वसविले.

56 Yet they tempted and rebelled against the most high God, and his testimonies they kept not;

५६तरी त्यांनी परात्पर देवाला आव्हान दिले आणि त्याच्याविरुध्द बंडखोरी केली, आणि त्यांनी त्याच्या आज्ञा पाळल्या नाहीत.

57 But swerved aside, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers; they turned about like a deceitful bow.

५७ते आपल्या पूर्वजाप्रमाणे अविश्वासू होते आणि त्यांनी विश्वासघातकी कृत्ये केली; फसव्या धनुष्याप्रमाणे ते स्वतंत्रपणे वळणारे होते.

58 And they provoked him to anger with their high-places, and with their graven images they moved him to jealousy.

५८कारण त्यांनी आपल्या उंच जागा बांधल्या आणि देवाला क्रोधित केले आणि आपल्या कोरीव मूर्तींमुळे त्यास आवेशाने कोपविले.

59 God heard this, and he became wroth, and felt greatly disgusted with Israel;

५९जेव्हा देवाने हे ऐकले, तो रागावला, आणि त्याने इस्राएलाला पूर्णपणे झिडकारले.

60 And he cast off the dwelling at Shiloh, the tabernacle where he had dwelt among men;

६०त्याने शिलोतले पवित्रस्थान सोडून दिले, ज्या तंबूत लोकांच्यामध्ये तो राहत होता.

61 And he gave up his strength unto captivity, and his glory into the adversary's hand.

६१त्याने आपल्या सामर्थ्याचा कोश बंदिवासात जाण्याची परवानगी दिली, आणि आपले गौरव शत्रूच्या हातात दिले.

62 And he surrendered his people unto the sword; and with his inheritance was he wroth.

६२त्याने आपले लोक तलवारीच्या स्वाधीन केले, आणि आपल्या वतनावर तो रागावला.

63 His young men the fire devoured; and his virgins were not demanded in marriage.

६३अग्नीने त्यांच्या तरुण मनुष्यास खाऊन टाकले, आणि त्यांच्या तरुण स्रीयांना लग्नगीते लाभली नाहीत.

64 His priests fell by the sword; and his widows did not weep.

६४त्यांचे याजक तलवारीने पडले, आणि त्यांच्या विधवा त्यांच्यासाठी रडल्या नाहीत.

65 Then awoke the Lord as one that sleepeth, like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

६५मग प्रभू झोपेतून जागा झालेल्या मनुष्यासारखा उठला, द्राक्षरसामुळे आरोळी मारणाऱ्या सैनिकासारखा तो उठला.

66 And he smote his enemies backward: a perpetual disgrace on them.

६६त्याने आपल्या शत्रूंना मारून मागे हाकलले; त्याने त्यांची कायमची नामुष्की केली.

67 Yet was he disgusted with the tent of Joseph, and of the tribe of Ephraim he made not choice;

६७त्याने योसेफाचा तंबू नाकारला, आणि त्याने एफ्राईमाच्या वंशाचा स्वीकार केला नाही.

68 But he chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

६८त्याने यहूदाच्या वंशाला निवडले, आणि आपला आवडता सियोन पर्वत निवडला.

69 And he built like high [mountains] his sanctuary, like the earth which he hath founded for ever.

६९उंच आकाशासारखे व आपण सर्वकाळ स्थापिलेल्या पृथ्वीसारखे त्याने आपले पवित्रस्थान बांधले.

70 And he made choice of David his servant, and took him from the sheep-folds:

७०त्याने आपला सेवक दावीदाला निवडले, आणि त्यास त्याने मेंढरांच्या कोंडवाड्यांतून घेतले.

71 From following the ewes with young he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

७१आपले लोक याकोब व आपले वतन इस्राएल यांचे पालन करण्यास त्याने त्यास दुभत्या मेंढ्याच्या मागून काढून आणले.

72 And he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and by the skilfulness of his hands did he lead them.

७२दावीदाने आपल्या मनाच्या सरळतेने त्याचे पालन केले, आणि आपल्या हातच्या कौशल्याने त्यास मार्ग दाखविला.
