Psalms 76
1 “To the chief musician on Neginoth, a psalm or song of Assaph.” In Judah hath God been made known: in Israel is his name great.
Een psalm, een lied van Asaf, voor den opperzangmeester, op de Neginoth. God is bekend in Juda; Zijn Naam is groot in Israel.
2 And in Salem was his tabernacle made, and his dwelling-place in Zion.
En in Salem is Zijn hut, en Zijn woning in Sion.
3 There broke he the shining arrows of the bow, shield, and sword, and battle. (Selah)
Aldaar heeft Hij verbroken de vurige pijlen van den boog, het schild, en het zwaard, en den krijg. (Sela)
4 Thou art more brilliant, more excellent than the mountains [full] of prey.
Gij zijt doorluchtiger en heerlijker dan de roofbergen.
5 Bereft of reason are the stouthearted, they slumber their sleep: and none of the men of might have found [the use of] their hands.
De stouthartigen zijn beroofd geworden; zij hebben hun slaap gesluimerd; en geen van de dappere mannen hebben hun handen gevonden.
6 From thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, lie in deep sleep both chariot and horse.
Van Uw schelden, o God van Jakob! is samen wagen en paard in slaap gezonken.
7 Thou—thou art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thy anger [is kindled]?
Gij, vreselijk zijt Gij; en wie zal voor Uw aangezicht bestaan, van den tijd Uws toorns af?
8 From heaven hast thou caused [thy] sentence to be heard: the earth feared, and became still,
Gij deedt een oordeel horen uit den hemel; de aarde vreesde en werd stil,
9 When God rose to judgment, to save all the lowly of the earth. (Selah)
Als God opstond ten oordeel, om alle zachtmoedigen der aarde te verlossen. (Sela)
10 For the fury of man shall praise thee: the remainder of the fury wilt thou gird about thee.
Want de grimmigheid des mensen zal U loffelijk maken; het overblijfsel der grimmigheden zult Gij opbinden.
11 Make vows, and pay [them] unto the Lord your God, all ye that are round about him: let men bring presents unto him that exciteth fear.
Doet geloften en betaalt ze den HEERE, uw God, gij allen, die rondom Hem zijt! Laat hen Dien, Die te vrezen is, geschenken brengen;
12 He will cut down the spirit of the powerful: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.
Die den geest der vorsten als druiven afsnijdt; Die den koningen der aarde vreselijk is.
