< Psalms 75 >
1 “To the chief musician, Al-tashcheth, a psalm or song of Asaph.” We give thanks unto thee, O God, we give thanks, and nigh is thy name: men relate thy wondrous deeds.
Þökk sé þér Drottinn! Máttarverk þín staðfesta umhyggju þína.
2 “For I will take up a fixed time when I will judge uprightly.
„Já, “svarar Drottinn, „og þegar stundin er komin mun ég refsa öllum illgjörðamönnum!
3 The earth and all her inhabitants are melting away: I myself establish firmly her pillars.” (Selah)
Þótt jörðin nötri og íbúar hennar skjálfi af ótta, eru undirstöður hennar traustar, enda verk handa minna!“
4 I said unto the arrogant, Deal not arrogantly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn.
Ég sagði hinum hrokafullu að láta af drambi sínu og illmennunum að hætta sínum ögrandi augnagotum,
5 Lift not up on high your horn, speak not with a stiffly erect neck.
að láta af þrjósku og hroka.
6 For neither from the rising [of the sun], nor from [his] setting, nor from the wilderness of mountains [cometh this];
Velgengni og völd getur enginn þakkað sér sjálfum,
7 But God is the judge: he lowereth one, and lifteth up another,
allt eru það gjafir frá Guði. Hann upphefur einn, en niðurlægir annan.
8 For there is a cup in the hand of the Lord, and the wine foameth, it is full of mixture: and he poureth out of the same; but its lees they drain, they drink—all the wicked of the earth.
Drottinn heldur á bikar fullum af freyðandi víni – það er dómurinn gegn illmennum heimsins. Þau skulu drekka hann í botn!
9 But I will declare for ever, I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
En ég mun vegsama Guð um aldur og ævi.
10 And all the horns of the wicked will I hew off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
Styrkur hinna óguðlegu verður að engu, en réttlátir skulu ríkja með reisn.
