Psalms 56
1 “To the chief musician upon Jonath-elem-rechokim, by David, a Michtham, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.” Be gracious unto me, O God; for man longeth to swallow me up; all the time he oppresseth me fighting.
[Dem Vorsänger, nach: "Die Taube der fernen Terebinthen". Von David, ein Gedicht, [Hebr. Miktam; so auch Ps. 57. 58. 59. 60] als die Philister ihn zu Gath ergriffen.] Sei mir gnädig, o Gott! denn es schnaubt [O. schnappt] nach mir der Mensch; den ganzen Tag mich befehdend, bedrückt er mich.
2 Those that regard me with envy long to swallow [me] up all the time; for many are they that fight against me, O thou Most High.
Es schnauben [O. schnappen] meine Feinde den ganzen Tag; denn viele befehden mich in Hochmut.
3 The day [when] I am afraid, I will still trust in thee.
An dem Tage, da ich mich fürchte, vertraue ich auf dich.
4 In God will I praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can flesh do unto me?
In [O. Durch; so auch v 10] Gott werde ich rühmen sein Wort; auf Gott vertraue ich, ich werde mich nicht fürchten; was sollte das Fleisch mir tun?
5 All the day they wrest my words: against me are all their thoughts for evil.
Meine Worte verdrehen [Eig. kränken] sie den ganzen Tag, alle ihre Gedanken sind wider mich zum Bösen.
6 They come together in troops, they hide themselves, they are those that watch my heels, as though they hoped [to take] my soul.
Sie rotten sich zusammen, verstecken sich, [Nach and. Lesart: legen einen Hinterhalt] sie beobachten meine Fersen, weil sie meiner Seele auflauern.
7 Because of their wrong-doing let me escape from them: in anger cast down the people, O God.
Sollte bei ihrem Frevel Rettung für sie sein? Im Zorn stürze nieder die Völker, o Gott!
8 My wanderings hast thou well numbered: put thou my tears into thy bottle; behold, they are numbered by thee.
Mein Umherirren [O. Klagen] zählst du. Lege [O. hast du gezählt. Gelegt sind usw.] in deinen Schlauch meine Tränen; sind sie nicht in deinem Buche? [O. Verzeichnis]
9 Then shall my enemies retire backward on the day when I call [on thee]: this I know—that God is for me.
Dann werden meine Feinde umkehren an dem Tage, da ich rufe; dieses weiß ich, daß Gott für mich ist. [O. denn Gott ist für mich]
10 In God will I praise the word: in the Lord will I praise the word.
In Gott werde ich rühmen das Wort, in Jehova werde ich rühmen das Wort.
11 In God have I put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can man do unto me?
Auf Gott vertraue ich; ich werde mich nicht fürchten; was sollte der Mensch mir tun?
12 Upon me, O God, [rest] thy vows: I will pay thanksgiving offerings unto thee.
Auf mir, o Gott, sind deine Gelübde, [d. h. die ich dir gelobt habe] ich werde dir Dankopfer entrichten.
13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death—yea, behold, my feet from slipping, that I may walk before God in the light of the life.
Denn du hast meine Seele vom Tode errettet, ja, meine Füße vom Sturz, um zu wandeln vor dem Angesicht Gottes im Lichte der Lebendigen.
