Psalms 56

1 “To the chief musician upon Jonath-elem-rechokim, by David, a Michtham, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.” Be gracious unto me, O God; for man longeth to swallow me up; all the time he oppresseth me fighting.

Pour le chef musicien. Sur l'air de « Silent Dove in Distant Lands ». Un poème de David, quand les Philistins l'ont saisi à Gath. Aie pitié de moi, Dieu, car l'homme veut m'engloutir. Toute la journée, il m'attaque et m'opprime.

2 Those that regard me with envy long to swallow [me] up all the time; for many are they that fight against me, O thou Most High.

Mes ennemis veulent m'engloutir toute la journée, car ils sont nombreux à se battre fièrement contre moi.

3 The day [when] I am afraid, I will still trust in thee.

Quand j'ai peur, Je vous fais confiance.

4 In God will I praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can flesh do unto me?

En Dieu, je loue sa parole. En Dieu, je mets ma confiance. Je n'aurai pas peur. Que peut me faire la chair?

5 All the day they wrest my words: against me are all their thoughts for evil.

Tout le jour, ils déforment mes paroles. Toutes leurs pensées sont contre moi, pour le mal.

6 They come together in troops, they hide themselves, they are those that watch my heels, as though they hoped [to take] my soul.

Ils conspirent et se cachent, à regarder mes pas. Ils sont impatients de prendre ma vie.

7 Because of their wrong-doing let me escape from them: in anger cast down the people, O God.

Echapperont-ils par l'iniquité? Dans ta colère, renverse les peuples, Dieu.

8 My wanderings hast thou well numbered: put thou my tears into thy bottle; behold, they are numbered by thee.

Tu comptes mes pérégrinations. Tu as mis mes larmes dans ton récipient. Ils ne sont pas dans votre livre?

9 Then shall my enemies retire backward on the day when I call [on thee]: this I know—that God is for me.

Alors mes ennemis reculeront au jour où j'appellerai. Je sais ceci: que Dieu est pour moi.

10 In God will I praise the word: in the Lord will I praise the word.

En Dieu, je louerai sa parole. En Yahvé, je louerai sa parole.

11 In God have I put my trust; I will not be afraid: what can man do unto me?

J'ai mis ma confiance en Dieu. Je n'aurai pas peur. Que peut me faire l'homme?

12 Upon me, O God, [rest] thy vows: I will pay thanksgiving offerings unto thee.

Tes vœux sont sur moi, Dieu. Je vous donnerai des offrandes de remerciement.

13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death—yea, behold, my feet from slipping, that I may walk before God in the light of the life.

Car tu as délivré mon âme de la mort, et empêchait mes pieds de tomber, afin que je puisse marcher devant Dieu dans la lumière des vivants.
