Psalms 37
1 “Of David.” Do not fret thyself because of the evil-doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
De David. Ne t'irrite pas au sujet des méchants; Ne porte pas envie à ceux qui font le mal.
2 For like the grass they shall soon be mowed down, and like the green herb shall they wither.
Car ils seront fauchés soudain comme l'herbe; Ils se faneront comme l'herbe verte.
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed [thyself] with truthfulness.
Confie-toi en l'Éternel, et fais le bien; Habite en paix le pays, et mets ton plaisir dans la fidélité.
4 And delight thyself in the Lord, and he will give thee the wishes of thy heart.
Fais de l'Éternel tes délices. Et il t'accordera ce que ton coeur demande.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord, and trust in him: and he will accomplish it.
Remets ton sort à l'Éternel; Confie-toi en lui, et il agira.
6 And he will bring forth as the light thy righteousness, and the justice of thy [cause] as the noonday.
Il fera éclater ta justice comme la lumière. Et ton droit comme le soleil en plein midi.
7 Be silent before the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who practices wicked devices.
Abandonne-toi en paix à l'Éternel, et mets ton espoir en lui. Ne t'irrite point. Quand tu vois un homme réussir dans ses entreprises, Et venir à bout de ses mauvais desseins.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Réprime la colère, et renonce au dépit; Ne t'irrite point: cela t'entraînerait au mal!
9 For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon the Lord, these—shall truly inherit the land.
En effet, les méchants seront exterminés; Mais ceux qui mettent leur confiance en l'Éternel, Ceux-là posséderont la terre!
10 For yet but for a little while, and the wicked shall be no more: yea, thou wilt look carefully at his place, and he shall not be there.
Encore un peu de temps, et le méchant ne sera plus; Tu regarderas la place où il était, et il aura disparu.
11 But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight themselves because of the abundance of peace.
Mais les humbles posséderont la terre, Et ils jouiront d'une grande prospérité.
12 The wicked purposeth evil against the just, and gnasheth against him with his teeth.
Le méchant suscite des complots contre le juste, Et il grince des dents contre lui.
13 The Lord will laugh at him; for he seeth that his day is coming.
Le Seigneur se rit du méchant; Car il voit que le jour de son châtiment approche.
14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cause the poor and needy to fall, and to slaughter such as are of an upright course [of life].
Les méchants ont tiré l'épée et bandé leur arc. Pour abattre l'affligé et le pauvre, Pour égorger ceux qui suivent la voie droite.
15 [But] their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
Leur épée entrera dans leur propre coeur, Et leurs arcs seront brisés.
16 Better is the little that the righteous hath, than the great riches of many wicked.
Le peu qui appartient au juste Vaut mieux que l'abondance de beaucoup de méchants.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the upholder of the righteous is the Lord.
Car la puissance des méchants sera brisée; Mais l'Éternel soutient les justes.
18 The Lord regardeth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall endure for ever.
L'Éternel veille sur les jours des hommes intègres, Et leur héritage subsiste à perpétuité.
19 They shall not be made ashamed in the time of unhappiness; and in the days of famine shall they be satisfied.
Ils ne seront pas confus au temps du malheur; Ils seront rassasiés au jour de la famine.
20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the beauty of the meadow: they pass away; in smoke they pass away.
Car les méchants périront; Les ennemis de l'Éternel passeront comme la parure des prés; Ils périront, ils disparaîtront comme une fumée.
21 The wicked borroweth, and repayeth not; but the righteous is beneficent, and giveth.
Le méchant emprunte, et il ne rend pas; Mais le juste a compassion, et il donne.
22 For those blessed of him shall inherit the land; and those cursed of him shall be cut off.
Ceux que Dieu bénit possèderont la terre; Mais ceux qu'il maudit seront exterminés.
23 By the Lord are the steps of the righteous man established; and he findeth pleasure in his course [of life].
Les pas de l'homme de bien sont affermis par l'Éternel, Qui prend plaisir à lui montrer sa voie.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholdeth his hand.
S'il trébuche, il ne sera pas renversé; Car l'Éternel le soutient par la main.
25 I have been young, and I am also grown old: yet have I never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking for bread.
J'ai été jeune, et je suis devenu vieux; Mais je n'ai pas vu le juste abandonné, Ni ses enfants mendiant leur pain.
26 He is all the time beneficent, and lendeth: and his seed will be for a blessing.
Tous les jours il a compassion et il prête. Et sa postérité est bénie.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
Détourne-toi du mal et fais le bien. Et tu seras pour toujours en sécurité.
28 For the Lord loveth justice, and never forsaketh his pious servants: they are for ever preserved; but the seed of the wicked will be cut off.
Car l'Éternel aime la justice: Il n'abandonne pas ses fidèles, qui sont gardés pour toujours; Mais la race des méchants sera exterminée.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell for ever therein.
Les justes posséderont la terre. Et ils y demeureront à perpétuité.
30 The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh what is just.
La bouche du juste annonce la sagesse. Et sa langue proclame la justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart: none of his steps shall slip.
La loi de son Dieu est dans son coeur; Ses pas ne chancelleront point.
32 The wicked looketh out for the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
Le méchant épie le juste, Et il cherche à le faire périr.
33 The Lord will not leave him in his hand, and will not condemn him when he is judged.
L'Éternel ne le laissera pas en son pouvoir; Il ne le condamnera pas à l'heure du jugement.
34 Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he will exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, shalt thou look on.
Mets ta confiance en l'Éternel, et marche dans ses voies: Il t'élèvera et te fera posséder la terre. Et tu verras les méchants exterminés.
35 I have seen the wicked terrible in power, and striking root like a green tree in its native soil.
J'ai vu le méchant au comble de la puissance, Et s'étendant comme un arbre vigoureux.
36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was no more: and I sought him, but he could not be found.
Il n'a fait que passer et voici qu'il n'est plus! Je l'ai cherché: je n'ai pu le trouver.
37 Observe the perfect man, and behold the upright; for there is a [happy] future for the man of peace.
Observe l'homme intègre, et regarde l'homme droit; Car il y a un avenir pour l'homme de paix!
38 But the transgressors are destroyed together: the future of the wicked is cut off.
Mais les pécheurs seront entièrement détruits: L'espoir des méchants sera anéanti.
39 And the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord: he is their strong-hold in the time of distress.
La délivrance des justes vient de l'Éternel: Il est leur rempart au temps de la détresse.
40 And the Lord helpeth them, and delivereth them; he will deliver them from the wicked, and save them; because they have put their trust in him.
L'Éternel les secourt et les délivre; Il les délivre des méchants et les sauve. Parce qu'ils cherchent auprès de lui leur refuge.
