Psalms 33
1 Be joyful, O ye righteous, in the Lord; [for] unto the righteous praise is comely.
Vous justes, chantez de joie à cause de l'Eternel; sa louange est bienséante aux hommes droits.
2 Give thanks unto the Lord with the harp: with the ten-stringed psaltery do ye sing [praises] unto him.
Célébrez l'Eternel avec le violon, chantez-lui des Psaumes avec la musette, et l'instrument à dix cordes.
3 Sing unto him a new song; play beautifully amidst a triumphant shout.
Chantez-lui un nouveau Cantique, touchez adroitement [vos instruments de musique] avec un cri de réjouissance.
4 For the word of the Lord is upright; and all his works [are done] in truth.
Car la parole de l'Eternel est pure, et toutes ses œuvres sont avec fermeté.
5 He loveth righteousness and justice: the earth is full of the kindness of the Lord.
Il aime la justice et la droiture; la terre est remplie de la gratuité de l'Eternel.
6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
Les cieux ont été faits par la parole de l'Eternel, et toute leur armée par le souffle de sa bouche.
7 He gathereth together like heaps the waters of the sea: he layeth up in store-houses the depths [of the sea].
Il assemble les eaux de la mer comme en un monceau, il met les abîmes [comme] dans des céliers.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: of him stand in awe all the inhabitants of the world.
Que toute la terre craigne l'Eternel, que tous les habitants de la terre habitable le redoutent.
9 For he spoke, and it came into being: he commanded, and it stood fast.
Car il a dit, et [ce qu'il a dit] a eu son être, il a commandé, et la chose a comparu.
10 The Lord frustrateth the resolves of the nations: he bringeth to nought the thoughts of the people.
L'Eternel dissipe le conseil des nations, il anéantit les desseins des peuples;
11 The counsel of the Lord will stand for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
[Mais] le conseil de l'Eternel se soutient à toujours; les desseins de son cœur subsistent d'âge en âge.
12 Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he hath chosen for himself as a heritage.
Ô! que bienheureuse est la nation dont l'Eternel est le Dieu, [et] le peuple qu'il s'est choisi pour héritage!
13 The Lord looketh from heaven; he seeth all the sons of men.
L'Eternel regarde des Cieux, il voit tous les enfants des hommes.
14 From the place of his habitation he directeth his view upon all the inhabitants of the earth;
Il prend garde du lieu de sa résidence à tous les habitants de la terre.
15 He fashioneth their hearts altogether; he hath regard to all their works.
C'est lui qui forme également leur cœur, et qui prend garde à toutes leurs actions.
16 The king is not saved by the multitude of an army: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
Le Roi n'est point sauvé par une grosse armée, et l'homme puissant n'échappe point par [sa] grande force.
17 Vain is the horse for victory: nor shall he deliver any by the greatness of his strength.
Le cheval manque à sauver, et ne délivre point par la grandeur de sa force.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those that fear him, upon those that hope for his kindness.
Voici, l'œil de l'Eternel est sur ceux qui le craignent, sur ceux qui s'attendent à sa gratuité.
19 To deliver from death their soul, and to keep them alive in famine.
Afin qu'il les délivre de la mort, et les entretienne en vie durant la famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: our help and our shield is he.
Notre âme s'est confiée en l'Eternel; il est notre aide et notre bouclier.
21 For in him shall our heart rejoice: because in his holy name have we trusted.
Certainement notre cœur se réjouira en lui, parce que nous avons mis notre assurance en son saint Nom.
22 Let thy kindness, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in thee.
Que ta gratuité soit sur nous, ô Eternel! selon que nous nous sommes confiés en toi
