< Psalms 20 >

1 “To the chief musician, a psalm of David.” May the Lord answer thee on the day of distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect thee;
[For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] May YHWH answer you in the day of trouble. May the name of the God of Jacob set you up on high.
2 May he send thee help from the sanctuary, and support thee from Zion;
He will send you help from the sanctuary, and give you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all thy meat-offerings, and accept in favor thy burnt-sacrifice. (Selah)
He will remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice. (Selah)
4 May he grant thee according to thy own heart, and fulfill all thy resolves.
He will grant you your heart's desire, and fulfill all your plans.
5 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God will we upraise our banners: may the Lord fulfill all thy petitions.
We will triumph in your salvation. In the name of our God, we will set up our banners. May YHWH grant all your requests.
6 Now I know that the Lord saveth his anointed: he will answer him from his holy heavens, with the saving strength of his right hand.
Now I know that YHWH saves his anointed. He will answer him from his holy heaven, with a mighty act of deliverance by his right hand.
7 Some [trust] in chariots, and some in horses; but we will invoke the name of the Lord our God.
Some [trust] in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust the name of YHWH our God.
8 They are prostrate and fallen; but we are risen up and stand erect.
They are bowed down and fallen, but we rise up, and stand upright.
9 O Lord, save [us]: may the king answer us on the day when we call [on him].
Save, YHWH. Let the King answer us when we call.
