Psalms 18
1 “To the chief musician, by the servant of the Lord, by David, who spoke unto the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the power of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul; And he said,” I ever love thee, O Lord, my strength.
Au maître chantre. Du serviteur de l'Éternel, de David, qui adressa à l'Éternel les paroles de ce cantique, lorsque l'Éternel l'eut délivré de la main de tous ses ennemis, et de la main de Saül; et il dit: Je t'aime, ô Éternel, ô source de ma force,
2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Éternel, mon rocher, mon asile et mon libérateur! mon Dieu! ô mon rocher, où je vais m'abriter! mon bouclier, corne de mon salut, mon boulevard!
3 Praised, I cried, be the Lord, and from my enemies was I saved.
Loué soit l'Éternel! me suis-je écrié, et de mes ennemis j'ai été délivré.
4 The bonds of death encompassed me, and the floods of destruction made me afraid.
Les vagues de la mort m'enserraient, et les torrents de l'adversité m'épouvantaient;
les chaînes des Enfers m'enlaçaient, et j'étais pris dans les rêts de la mort. (Sheol h7585)
6 [When] in my distress I called upon the Lord, and unto my God I cried: he heard from his temple my voice, and my complaint came before him, even into his ears.
Dans mon angoisse j'invoquai l'Éternel, et vers mon Dieu j'élevai mes cris: de son parvis Il entendit ma voix, et mes cris arrivés devant lui vinrent à ses oreilles.
7 Then shook and trembled the earth; and the foundations of the mountains were moved; and they were shaken, because he was wroth.
Alors la terre oscilla et trembla, et les bases des montagnes furent émues, et elles s'ébranlèrent, parce qu'il était courroucé.
8 Smoke went up in his anger and consuming fire out of his mouth: coals flamed forth from him.
Une fumée sortit de ses narines, et de sa bouche un feu dévorant; et Il fit jaillir des charbons ardents.
9 And he bent the heavens, and came down: and thick darkness was under his feet:
Et Il inclina le ciel, et Il descendit; et l'obscurité était sous ses pieds.
10 And he rode upon a cherub, and flew along, and he flitted by upon the wings of the wind.
Et Il était monté sur le Chérubin, et volait, et Il planait sur les ailes du vent.
11 He made darkness his hiding-place, round about him as his pavilion, dark waters, thick clouds of the skies.
Il prit les ténèbres pour sa couverture, et autour de lui pour sa tente les noires vapeurs et les nuées épaisses.
12 From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed away, [with] hail-stones and coals of fire.
De la splendeur qui le précède, sortirent les nuages, portant la grêle et les charbons de feu.
13 And the Lord thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered forth his voice, [with] hail-stones and coals of fire.
Et l'Éternel tonna dans le ciel, et le Très-haut émit sa voix, avec la grêle et des charbons de feu.
14 And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.
Il lança ses flèches et Il les dissipa, et mille foudres, et Il les défit.
15 And then were seen the channels of the waters, and there were laid open the foundations of the world, through thy rebuke, O Lord, through the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
Et l'on vit paraître les vallées de la mer et les fondements du monde furent mis à nu au grondement de ta voix, Éternel, au souffle du vent de tes narines.
16 He stretched out from above [his hand], he took me; he drew me out from mighty waters.
Il tendit sa main d'en haut, et me prit, et Il me retira des grandes eaux.
17 He delivered me from my enemy, the strong, and from those that hated me, when they were too mighty for me.
Il me sauva de mes robustes ennemis, et de mes adversaires qui l'emportaient sur moi.
18 They overcame me on the day of my calamity; but the Lord became my stay.
Ils m'attaquaient au jour du malheur; mais l'Éternel fut un soutien pour moi.
19 And he brought me forth into a large space; he delivered me, because he had delight in me.
Il me tira au large, Il me dégagea, parce qu'il m'était propice.
20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the purity of my hands did he recompense me.
L'Éternel me traita selon ma justice, et me rendit selon la pureté de mes mains.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
Car je gardais les voies de l'Éternel, et n'étais point rebelle à mon Dieu.
22 For all his ordinances were before me, and his statutes had I not put away from me.
Car j'avais toutes ses lois sous les yeux, et je ne secouais point ses commandements;
23 I was also upright with him, and I guarded myself against my iniquity.
j'étais sans reproche envers lui, et je prenais garde de me rendre coupable.
24 Therefore did the Lord recompense me according to my righteousness, according to the purity of my hands before his eyes.
Aussi l'Éternel me rendit selon ma justice, selon la pureté de mes mains, dont Il était témoin.
25 With the kind thou wilt show thyself kind; with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright;
A celui qui t'aime, tu donnes ton amour, tu te montres juste pour l'homme juste,
26 With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt wage a contest.
tu es pur envers celui qui est pur, et tu trahis celui qui est perfide.
27 For thou wilt indeed save the afflicted people; but haughty eyes wilt thou bring down.
Car tu es en aide au peuple qui souffre, et tu humilies les yeux hautains.
28 For thou wilt cause my light to shine: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
Oui, tu as fait luire ma lampe; l'Éternel, mon Dieu, éclaira mes ténèbres.
29 For [aided] by thee I run through a troop; and [helped] by my God I leap over a wall.
Avec toi j'affrontai des bataillons, et avec mon Dieu je franchis des murailles.
30 As for God, —his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a shield to all those that trust in him.
Les voies de Dieu ne sont point trompeuses, la parole de l'Éternel est sans alliage; Il est un bouclier pour quiconque le réclame.
31 For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock beside our God?
Car qui est-ce qui est Dieu, hors l'Éternel? et qui est un rocher, sinon notre Dieu,
32 He is the God that girdeth me with strength, and rendereth my way unobstructed.
ce Dieu, qui me donna la force pour ceinture, et rendit mes voies irréprochables?
33 He maketh my feet like those of the hinds, and upon my high-places he causeth me to stand.
Il assimila mes pieds à ceux de la biche, et Il m'établit sur mes hauteurs.
34 He teacheth my hands for the war, so that a brazen bow is bent by my arms.
Il forma mes mains au combat, et mon bras sut bander l'arc d'airain.
35 And thou gavest me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand supported me: and thy meekness hath made me great.
Tu me donnas le bouclier de ton secours, et ta droite me soutint, et ta clémence daigna m'agrandir.
36 Thou enlargest my steps under me, so that my joints do not slip.
Sous mes pieds tu donnas de l'espace à mes pas, et mes talons ne furent point vacillants.
37 I pursue my enemies, and overtake them; and I return not again till I have made an end of them.
Je poursuivis mes ennemis, et je les atteignis, et je ne revins pas qu'ils ne fussent détruits;
38 I crush them that they are not able to rise: they fall under my feet.
je les écrasai, et ils n'ont pu se relever, ils tombèrent sous mes pieds.
39 For thou hast girded me with strength for the war: thou subduest my opponents under me.
Tu me ceignis de force pour la bataille, et tu fis plier mes adversaires sous mes coups.
40 And my enemies thou causest to turn their back to me; and those that hate me, —that I may destroy them.
Tu me fis voir le dos de mes ennemis, et j'anéantis ceux qui me haïssaient.
41 They cry, but there is none to help; unto the Lord, —but he answereth them not.
Ils crièrent au secours; il n'y eut point de Sauveur; ils crièrent à l'Éternel; Il ne leur répondit pas.
42 And I beat them small as the dust before the wind: like the dirt in the streets do I cast them out.
Je les mis en poudre, comme la poussière qui est au vent, et je les balayai comme la boue des rues.
43 Thou deliverest me from the contests of the people; thou appointest me to be the head of nations: a people that I know not shall serve me.
Tu me délivras des agressions des peuples, et tu me constituas chef des nations; des peuples à moi inconnus me furent asservis;
44 As soon as their ear heareth they shall be obedient to me: the children of the stranger shall utter flattery unto me.
sur ma renommée ils se soumirent, les enfants de l'étranger devinrent mes flatteurs,
45 The children of the stranger shall fade away, and come forth trembling out of their close places.
les enfants de l'étranger succombèrent, et quittèrent alarmés leurs châteaux.
46 The Lord liveth, and blessed be my Rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation;
Vive l'Éternel, et béni soit mon rocher! qu'il soit exalté mon Dieu sauveur,
47 The God that granteth me vengeance, and subdueth nations under me;
le Dieu qui m'accorda la vengeance, et m'assujettit les peuples!
48 That delivereth me from my enemies: also above my opponents thou liftest me up; thou deliverest me from the man of violence.
M'ayant délivré de mes ennemis, tu m'as fait triompher de mes adversaires, tu m'as fait échapper à l'homme violent.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee among the nations, O Lord, and unto thy name will I sing praises, —
Aussi je veux te chanter parmi les peuples, Éternel, et célébrer ton nom,
50 [To him] that maketh great the salvation of his king, and who sheweth kindness to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for ever.
ô toi qui accordes un grand salut à ton Roi, et fais miséricorde à ton Oint, à David, et à sa race éternellement!
