Psalms 18
1 “To the chief musician, by the servant of the Lord, by David, who spoke unto the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord had delivered him out of the power of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul; And he said,” I ever love thee, O Lord, my strength.
Jusqu'à la Fin. Pour David, serviteur de Dieu: il a composé au Seigneur les paroles de ce psaume le jour que le Seigneur l'a sauvé des mains de tous ses ennemis, et des mains de Saül, Et il a dit: Seigneur, je t'aimerai, toi qui es ma force.
2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Seigneur, mon appui, mon refuge et mon libérateur! Mon Dieu est mon champion, j'espèrerai en lui, il est mon défenseur, la force de mon salut; c'est lui qui me protège.
3 Praised, I cried, be the Lord, and from my enemies was I saved.
J'invoquerai le Seigneur en le louant, et je serai sauvé des mains de mes ennemis.
4 The bonds of death encompassed me, and the floods of destruction made me afraid.
Les angoisses de la mort m'ont environné; des torrents d'iniquités m'ont grandement troublé.
J'étais investi par les tourments de l'enfer, j'avais été surpris par les filets de la mort. (Sheol h7585)
6 [When] in my distress I called upon the Lord, and unto my God I cried: he heard from his temple my voice, and my complaint came before him, even into his ears.
En ces afflictions, j'ai invoqué le Seigneur; j'ai crié vers mon Dieu: de sa demeure sainte il a entendu ma voix; mes cris arrivent jusqu'à lui, ils pénétreront dans ses oreilles.
7 Then shook and trembled the earth; and the foundations of the mountains were moved; and they were shaken, because he was wroth.
Et la terre a été ébranlée, elle a tremblé, et les assises des montagnes ont été troublées jusqu'en leurs fondements; et elles ont chancelé, parce que le Seigneur était courroucé contre eux.
8 Smoke went up in his anger and consuming fire out of his mouth: coals flamed forth from him.
Sa colère a fait jaillir de la fumée; et son visage a lancé sa flamme; des charbons en ont été embrasés.
9 And he bent the heavens, and came down: and thick darkness was under his feet:
Il a incliné les cieux et il est descendu, et l'obscurité était sous ses pieds.
10 And he rode upon a cherub, and flew along, and he flitted by upon the wings of the wind.
Et il est monté sur les Chérubins, et il a volé; il a volé sur les ailes des vents;
11 He made darkness his hiding-place, round about him as his pavilion, dark waters, thick clouds of the skies.
Et il s'est entouré de ténèbres, et il y a fait son tabernacle dans l'eau sombre des nuées de l'air.
12 From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed away, [with] hail-stones and coals of fire.
Et les nuées ont passé devant lui, chassées par sa splendeur; il a lancé de la grêle et des charbons de feu.
13 And the Lord thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered forth his voice, [with] hail-stones and coals of fire.
Et le Seigneur a tonné du haut du ciel; et le Très-Haut a fait entendre sa voix;
14 And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.
Et il a lancé ses flèches, et il a dispersé mes ennemis; il a multiplié les éclairs, et ils ont été troublés.
15 And then were seen the channels of the waters, and there were laid open the foundations of the world, through thy rebuke, O Lord, through the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
Et les sources des eaux ont apparu, et les fondements de la terre ont été visibles, à cause de tes menaces, Seigneur, à cause du souffle de ta colère.
16 He stretched out from above [his hand], he took me; he drew me out from mighty waters.
Il a envoyé son secours du haut des cieux, et il m'a pris; il m'a retiré des abîmes de l'eau.
17 He delivered me from my enemy, the strong, and from those that hated me, when they were too mighty for me.
Il m'a sauvé de mes puissants ennemis et de ceux qui me haïssent; car ils étaient plus forts que moi.
18 They overcame me on the day of my calamity; but the Lord became my stay.
Ils m'ont pris au dépourvu le jour de mon affliction; mais le Seigneur a été mon appui.
19 And he brought me forth into a large space; he delivered me, because he had delight in me.
Et il m'a conduit au large; il me sauvera, à cause de sa bonne volonté pour moi. [Il m'a sauvé de mes puissants ennemis et de ceux qui me haïssent.]
20 The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the purity of my hands did he recompense me.
Et le Seigneur me récompensera selon ma justice, et selon la pureté de mes mains.
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
Car j'ai gardé les voies du Seigneur; je n'ai point été impie, m'écartant de mon Dieu.
22 For all his ordinances were before me, and his statutes had I not put away from me.
J'ai eu présents à l'esprit tous ses jugements; et ses justices je ne les ai point éloignées de moi.
23 I was also upright with him, and I guarded myself against my iniquity.
Et je serai sans tache avec lui, et je me garderai de mon iniquité.
24 Therefore did the Lord recompense me according to my righteousness, according to the purity of my hands before his eyes.
Et le Seigneur me récompensera selon ma justice, et selon la pureté de mes mains qui est manifeste à ses yeux.
25 With the kind thou wilt show thyself kind; with the upright man thou wilt show thyself upright;
Avec le saint tu seras saint, ô Seigneur, et avec l'homme innocent, tu seras innocent.
26 With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt wage a contest.
Avec l'élu, tu seras élu, et avec le méchant tu seras impitoyable.
27 For thou wilt indeed save the afflicted people; but haughty eyes wilt thou bring down.
Et tu sauveras le peuple des humbles, et tu humilieras les yeux du superbe.
28 For thou wilt cause my light to shine: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
Tu feras luire ma lampe. Seigneur mon Dieu, et tu éclaireras mes ténèbres.
29 For [aided] by thee I run through a troop; and [helped] by my God I leap over a wall.
Avec l'aide de mon Dieu je ne succomberai pas aux tentations, avec lui je franchirai le mur qui m'environne.
30 As for God, —his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a shield to all those that trust in him.
O mon Dieu, ta voie est irréprochable; les paroles du Seigneur ont été éprouvées comme le feu; il est le protecteur de ceux qui espèrent en lui.
31 For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock beside our God?
Car qui est Dieu, sinon le Seigneur? qui est Dieu, sinon notre Dieu?
32 He is the God that girdeth me with strength, and rendereth my way unobstructed.
C'est Dieu qui m'a ceint de force et qui a rendu ma voie sans tache.
33 He maketh my feet like those of the hinds, and upon my high-places he causeth me to stand.
C'est lui qui a donné à mes pieds l'agilité du cerf, et qui m'a établi sur les hauts lieux.
34 He teacheth my hands for the war, so that a brazen bow is bent by my arms.
C'est lui qui a exercé mes mains aux combats, et qui a rendu mes bras forts comme un arc d'airain.
35 And thou gavest me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand supported me: and thy meekness hath made me great.
Tu m'as accordé ta protection, pour mon salut; ta main droite m'a soutenu; tes châtiments ont réussi à me corriger; tes châtiments mêmes continueront de m'instruire.
36 Thou enlargest my steps under me, so that my joints do not slip.
Tu as élargi le chemin sous mes pas, et mes pieds n'ont point vacillé.
37 I pursue my enemies, and overtake them; and I return not again till I have made an end of them.
Je poursuivrai mes ennemis, je les saisirai, je ne reviendrai pas qu'ils ne soient exterminés.
38 I crush them that they are not able to rise: they fall under my feet.
Je les broierai, et ils ne pourront se soutenir; ils tomberont sous mes pieds.
39 For thou hast girded me with strength for the war: thou subduest my opponents under me.
Et pour les combats tu m'as ceint de force; tu as abattu sous moi tous ceux qui s'étaient élevés contre moi.
40 And my enemies thou causest to turn their back to me; and those that hate me, —that I may destroy them.
Et mes ennemis, tu leur as fait tourner le dos devant moi; et ceux qui me haïssaient, tu les as anéantis.
41 They cry, but there is none to help; unto the Lord, —but he answereth them not.
Ils ont crié, mais il n'y avait là personne qui les sauvât; ils ont crié au Seigneur, et il ne les a pas exaucés.
42 And I beat them small as the dust before the wind: like the dirt in the streets do I cast them out.
Je les briserai comme la poussière à la face du vent; je les balayerai comme la boue des places publiques.
43 Thou deliverest me from the contests of the people; thou appointest me to be the head of nations: a people that I know not shall serve me.
Arrache-moi aux contradictions du peuple, tu me mettras à la tête des nations. Un peuple que je ne connaissais pas m'a été asservi;
44 As soon as their ear heareth they shall be obedient to me: the children of the stranger shall utter flattery unto me.
Son oreille m'a entendu, et il m'a obéi. Des fils révoltés m'ont menti,
45 The children of the stranger shall fade away, and come forth trembling out of their close places.
Des fils révoltés ont vieilli et ont boité, en sortant de leurs voies.
46 The Lord liveth, and blessed be my Rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation;
Vive le Seigneur, béni soit le Seigneur mon Dieu, que le Dieu de mon salut soit exalté!
47 The God that granteth me vengeance, and subdueth nations under me;
C'est toi, mon Dieu, qui te charges de mes vengeances; toi qui me soumets les peuples;
48 That delivereth me from my enemies: also above my opponents thou liftest me up; thou deliverest me from the man of violence.
Toi, mon libérateur contre la colère de mes ennemis, tu m'élèveras au- dessus de ceux qui se sont révoltés contre moi; tu me délivreras de l'homme inique.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee among the nations, O Lord, and unto thy name will I sing praises, —
A cause de cela, Seigneur, je célébrerai ta gloire parmi les nations, et je chanterai ton nom.
50 [To him] that maketh great the salvation of his king, and who sheweth kindness to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for ever.
Dieu exalte le salut de son roi; il est plein de miséricorde pour David son christ, et pour sa postérité dans les siècles des siècles.
