Psalms 140
1 “To the chief musician, a psalm of David.” Deliver me, O Lord, from an evil man; from a man of violence do thou keep me;
Per il Capo de’ musici. Salmo di Davide. Liberami, o Eterno, dall’uomo malvagio; guardami dall’uomo violento,
2 Who think over evil [resolves] in their heart, [who] every day are gathered together for war.
i quali macchinano delle malvagità nel loro cuore, e continuamente muovono guerre.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: the poison of the adder is under their lips. (Selah)
Aguzzano la loro lingua come il serpente, hanno un veleno d’aspide sotto le loro labbra. (Sela)
4 Preserve me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked, from the man of violence do thou keep me, who think of overthrowing my steps.
Preservami, o Eterno, dalle mani dell’empio, guardami dall’uomo violento, i quali han macchinato di farmi cadere.
5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the side of [my] track; traps have they set for me. (Selah)
I superbi hanno nascosto per me un laccio e delle funi, m’hanno teso una rete sull’orlo del sentiero, m’hanno posto degli agguati. (Sela)
6 I have said unto the Lord, Thou art my God: give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my supplications.
Io ho detto all’Eterno: Tu sei il mio Dio; porgi l’orecchio, o Eterno, al grido delle mie supplicazioni.
7 O thou Eternal Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head on the day of battle.
O Eterno, o Signore, che sei la forza della mia salvezza, tu hai coperto il mio capo nel giorno dell’armi.
8 Grant not, O Lord, the longings of the wicked; suffer not his wicked device to succeed: lest they exalt themselves. (Selah)
Non concedere, o Eterno, agli empi quel che desiderano; non dar compimento ai loro disegni, che talora non s’esaltino. (Sela)
9 [As for] the heads of those that encompass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
Sulla testa di quelli che m’attorniano ricada la perversità delle loro labbra!
10 Let burning coals be cast upon them: let them be thrown into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
Cadano loro addosso dei carboni accesi! Siano gettati nel fuoco, in fosse profonde, donde non possano risorgere.
11 Let not the man of an [evil] tongue be established on the earth: may evil hunt down the violent man to his downfall.
Il maldicente non sarà stabilito sulla terra; il male darà senza posa la caccia all’uomo violento.
12 I know that the Lord will procure right for the afflicted, [and] justice for the needy.
Io so che l’Eterno farà ragione all’afflitto e giustizia ai poveri.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell before thy presence.
Certo i giusti celebreranno il tuo nome; li uomini retti abiteranno alla tua presenza.
