< Psalms 131 >
1 “A song of the degrees by David.” O Lord, my heart was not haughty, nor were my eyes lofty: neither have I walked after matters too great, or those too wonderful for me.
A song of ascents. Of David. O Lord, my heart is not haughty, my eyes are not lofty, I walk not among great things, things too wonderful for me.
2 Surely I have pacified and stilled my soul, like the suckling on its mother's breast: like a suckling is in me my soul.
Yes, I have soothed and stilled myself, like a young child on his mother’s lap; like a young child am I.
3 Let Israel wait for the Lord from this time forth and for ever more.
O Israel, hope in the Lord from now and for evermore.
