Psalms 129

1 “A song of the degrees.” Many a time have they assailed me from my youth, so should Israel say;

Ein Wallfahrtslied. »Sie haben mich hart bedrängt von meiner Jugend an«

2 Many a time have they assailed me from my youth: yet have they not prevailed against me.

»sie haben mich hart bedrängt von meiner Jugend an, aber doch mich nicht überwältigt.

3 Upon my back have ploughmen ploughed; they have drawn long their furrows:

Auf meinem Rücken haben die Pflüger gepflügt und lange Furchen gezogen;

4 [Yet] the Lord is righteous; he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

doch der HERR ist gerecht: er hat zerhauen der Gottlosen Stricke.«

5 May all be put to shame and turned backward that hate Zion;

Zuschanden müssen werden und rückwärts weichen alle, die Zion hassen!

6 May they become like the grass of the roofs, which withereth before it is pulled up;

Sie müssen gleichen dem Gras auf den Dächern, das dürr schon ist, bevor es in Halme schießt,

7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor his arm he that bindeth sheaves.

mit dem der Schnitter seine Hand nicht füllt, noch der Garbenbinder seinen Gewandbausch,

8 Nor do they who pass by say, The blessing of the Lord be with you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.

und bei dem, wer des Weges vorübergeht, nicht ruft: »Gottes Segen sei über euch! Wir segnen euch im Namen des HERRN!«
