< Psalms 125 >
1 “A song of the degrees.” Those who trust in the Lord are like mount Zion, which will not he moved, which endureth for ever.
A song of ascents. Those who trust in Yahweh are like Mount Zion, unshakable, forever enduring.
2 Jerusalem hath mountains round about her: and [so] is the Lord round about his people, from this time forth and for evermore.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so Yahweh surrounds his people now and forever.
3 For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous: in order that the righteous may not stretch forth their hands unto wrong-doing.
The scepter of wickedness must not rule in the land of the righteous. Otherwise the righteous might do what is wrong.
4 Do good, O Lord, unto the good, and to those that are upright in their hearts.
Do good, Yahweh, to those who are good and to those who are upright in their hearts.
5 But as for those who turn aside unto their crooked ways, them will the Lord drive away with the workers of wickedness; but peace shall be upon Israel.
But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, Yahweh will lead them away with the evildoers. May peace be on Israel.
