< Psalms 108 >
1 “A song or psalm of David.” My heart is firm, O God; I will sing and give praise, even with my spirit.
A song. A psalm of David. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast. I would sing, I would make music; awake, my soul.
2 Awake, psaltery and harp: I will wake up the morning-dawn.
Awake, harp and lyre; I would wake the dawn.
3 I will give thee thanks among the people, O Lord: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.
I would praise you among the peoples, O Lord; make music among the nations to you.
4 For great above the heavens is thy kindness, and thy truth reacheth even unto the skies.
For great to heaven is your love, and your faithfulness to the clouds.
5 Exalt thyself above the heavens, O God; and above all the earth thy glory.
Be exalted, O God, o’er the heavens, and your glory o’er all the earth.
6 In order that thy beloved may be delivered: help with thy right hand, and answer me.
So those you love may be rescued, save by your right hand and answer us.
7 God hath spoken in his holiness: I will exult, I will divide Shechem, and the valley of Succoth will I measure out.
God did solemnly swear: “As victor will I divide Shechem, portion out the valley of Succoth.
8 Mine id Gil'ad, and mine is Menasseh; Ephraim also is the strong-hold of my head; of Judah are my chiefs.
Mine is Gilead, mine is Manasseh, Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my sceptre of rule,
9 Moab is my washpot; upon Edom will I cast my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.
Moab the pot that I wash in, on Edom I hurl my sandal, I shout o’er Philistia in triumph.”
10 Who will bring me into the fortified city? who will lead me as far as Edom?
O to be brought to the fortified city! O to be led into Edom!
11 Behold, it is thou, O God, who hast cast us off; and thou, O God, goest not forth with our armies.
Have you not spurned us, O God? You do not march forth with our armies.
12 Give us help against the assailant; for vain is the help of man.
Grant us help from the foe, for human help is worthless.
13 Through God shall we do valiantly; for he it is that will tread down our adversaries.
With God we shall yet do bravely, he himself will tread down our foes.
