Proverbs 7
1 My son, observe my sayings, and my commandments must thou treasure up with thee.
ʻE hoku foha, ke ke maʻu ʻeku ngaahi lea, pea ke tānaki kiate koe ʻa ʻeku ngaahi fekau.
2 Observe my commandments, and live: and my teaching as the apple of thy eyes.
Fai ki heʻeku ngaahi fekau pea moʻui ai! Pea tokangaʻi ʻa ʻeku fono ʻo hangē ko ho kanoʻi mata.
3 Bind them around thy fingers, write them upon the table of thy heart.
Nonoʻo ia ki ho louhiʻi nima, tohi ia ki he kakano ʻo ho loto.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
Ke ke lea ʻo pehē ki he poto, “Ko hoku tokoua koe;” pea ke ui ʻae ʻilo ko ho kāinga fefine:
5 That they may keep thee from an adulterous woman, from an alien that useth flattering speeches.
Koeʻuhi ke na fakamoʻui koe mei he fefine muli, mei he muli ʻoku fakaoloolo ʻaki ʻene ngaahi lea.
6 For through the window of my house, through my lattice did I [once] look out,
He naʻaku sio atu mei he matapā ʻa hoku fale mei he matapā sioʻata.
7 And I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a lad void of sense;
Pea naʻaku vakai ki he kakai vale, pea ne u ʻiloʻi ʻi he kau talavou ʻae tangata talavou ʻoku masiva ʻi he poto,
8 He was passing through the market-place near her corner; and he stepped along on the way to her house,
Naʻe ʻalu atu ʻi he hala ʻo ofi ki hono ʻapi; ʻo ne ʻalu ʻi he hala ki hono fale,
9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the depth of the night and when it was dark:
ʻI he efiafi poʻuli, ʻi he pō ʻuliʻuli mo fakapoʻuli:
10 And, behold, a woman came to meet him with the attire of a harlot, and obdurate of heart.
Pea vakai, naʻe fakafetaulaki mai kiate ia ʻae fefine ʻoku kofu ʻi he kofu ʻoe faʻa feʻauaki, ʻo loto kākā.
11 (She is noisy and ungovernable; in her house her feet never rest;
(ʻOku faʻa longoaʻa ia mo angamālohi, ʻoku ʻikai nofo hono vaʻe ʻi hono fale:
12 At one time she is in the street, at another in the open places, and near every corner doth she lurk, )
Ko eni ʻoku ʻituʻa, ko ʻena ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi hala, ʻoku ne nofo toitoi ʻi he tuliki kotoa pē.)
13 And she caught hold of him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face she said to him,
Pea naʻa ne puke ia, pea ʻuma ki ai, pea ʻi he mata fiematamuʻa naʻa ne pehē kiate ia,
14 “I had bound myself to bring peace-offerings; this day have I paid my vows:
“ʻOku ou maʻu ʻae ngaahi foaki fakalelei; pea kuo u fakamoʻoni ki heʻeku ngaahi fuakava ʻi he ʻaho ni.
15 Therefore am I come forth to meet thee, to seek thy presence diligently, and I have found thee.
Ko ia kuo u haʻu ai ke ta feʻilongaki mo koe, ke kumi ʻi he feinga ki ho mata, pea ko eni kuo u maʻu koe.
16 With tapestry coverings have I decked my bed, with embroidered coverlids of the fine linen of Egypt.
Kuo u teuteu hoku mohenga ʻaki ʻae ngaahi puipui matamatalelei, mo e tongi fakasanisani, mo e tupenu lelei mei ʻIsipite.
17 I have sprinkled my couch with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
Kuo u fakanamu kakala ʻa hoku mohenga ʻaki ʻae mula, mo e ʻalosi, pea mo e sinamoni.
18 Come, let us indulge in love until the morning: let us delight ourselves with dalliances.
Haʻu, ke ta fakafonu ʻakitaua ʻi he ʻofa ʻo aʻu ki he ʻapongipongi: ke ta fakafiemālie ʻakitaua ʻi heʻeta fai ʻofa.
19 For the man is not in his house, he is gone on a journey a great way off:
He ʻoku ʻikai ʻi ʻapi ʻae tangataʻeiki, kuo ʻalu ia ʻo fononga mamaʻo:”
20 The bag of money hath he taken with him, by the day of the new-moon festival only will he come home.”
Kuo ne ʻave mo ia ʻae kato paʻanga, pea ʻe ʻikai haʻu ia kaeʻoua ke hokosia hono ʻaho kuo ne lea ki ai.
21 She seduced him by the abundance of her reasoning: by the flattery of her lips she misguided him.
Naʻa ne fakavaivaiʻi ia ʻaki ʻa ʻene ngaahi lea matamatalelei, ʻo ne maʻu ia ʻi he fakaoloolo ʻa hono ngutu.
22 He followed after her suddenly, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, and as in fetters to his correction, the fool:
Ko ia naʻa ne ʻalu muimui leva ʻiate ia, ʻo hangē ko e pulu ke tāmateʻi, pea hangē ko e vale ki he tautea ʻoe ʻakau fakamaau vaʻe;
23 Till an arrow cleaveth through his liver; as a bird hasteneth into the snare, and knoweth not that it is done to take his life.
Kaeʻoua ke ʻasi ʻae ngahau ki hono ʻate; ʻio, ʻo hangē ko e manu ʻoku ʻoho vave ki he tauhele, ʻo ʻikai ke ne ʻilo ko e meʻa ke ʻosi ai ʻene moʻui.
24 And now, O children, hearken unto me, and listen to the sayings of my mouth.
ʻE fānau, ke mou fanongo eni kiate au, pea mou tokanga ki he ngaahi lea ʻa hoku ngutu.
25 Let not thy heart turn aside to her ways, do not go astray on her paths.
ʻOua naʻa tuku ke ʻalu atu ho loto ki hono hala, ʻoua naʻa mou hē ʻi hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga.
26 For many deadly wounded hath she caused to fall: yea, very numerous are all those slain by her.
He kuo lī hifo ʻe ia ʻae toko lahi kuo lavea; ʻio, kuo tāmateʻi ʻe ia ʻae kau tangata mālohi toko lahi.
