Proverbs 26
1 As snow is in summer, and as rain in harvest: so is honor not seemly to a fool.
Wie Schnee im Sommer, Regen in der Ernte, so ungehörig ist die Ehre für den Toren.
2 As the bird [cometh] to flit away, as the swallow, to fly off: so will an undeserved curse not come [to fulfillment].
Ein Sperling, der fortflattert, eine Schwalbe, die fortfliegt, so ist unverdienter Fluch; er trifft nicht ein.
3 A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
Dem Roß gebührt die Peitsche, ein Zaum dem Esel, dem Rücken eines Toren eine Rute.
4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest thou also become equal unto him.
Antworte nicht dem Toren seiner Torheit nach, damit du selbst dich ihm nicht gleichstellst!
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
Daß seine Rede Torheit sei, sag einem Toren, daß er sich nicht weise dünke!
6 He choppeth off the feet, and drinketh vexation, that sendeth important messages by the hand of a fool.
Ein Trinker, der die Füße heftig anstößt, ist einer, der durch einen Toren eine Botschaft sich bestellen läßt.
7 Too feebly hang down the thighs on a lame man: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Laßt einen Trunk durch einen Lahmen schöpfen, das ist der Weisheitsspruch im Mund des Toren.
8 As is the one that bindeth a stone fast in a sling, so is he that giveth honor to a fool.
Wie einer, der bei einer Steinigung den Stein umwickelt, so handelt, wer dem Toren Ehre gibt.
9 [As] a thorn that is come into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Ein Dornzweig in des Trunknen Hand, das ist ein Weisheitsspruch im Mund des Toren.
10 A master injureth all things when he hireth a fool or hireth mere rovers.
Viel Weh erleidet jedermann, der einen Toren dingt, wie einer, der in Dienst nimmt einen Wanderer.
11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so doth a fool repeat to act in his folly.
Gleich einem Hunde, der zu seinem Auswurf kehrt, so ist ein Tor, der seine Torheit wiederholt.
12 When thou seest a man wise in his own eyes, then is there more hope for a fool than for him.
Erblickst du einen Mann, der selbst sich weise dünkt, da gibt's für einen Narren eher Hoffnung als für ihn.
13 The slothful saith, There is a leopard in the way: a lion is between the streets.
Der Faule spricht: "Es ist ein Löwe auf dem Wege, ein Löwe innerhalb der Straßen."
14 As a door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
Wie sich die Tür dreht in der Angel, genauso auch im Bett der Faule.
15 Hath the slothful hidden his hand in the dish, it wearieth him to bring it back again to his mouth.
Wenn seine Hand der Faule in die Schüssel steckt, dann wird's ihm sauer, sie zum Mund zu bringen.
16 The slothful is wiser in his own eyes, than seven men that can give wise answers.
Ein Fauler dünkt sich weiser noch als sieben, die die Gottessprüche künden.
17 As is one that taketh hold of a dog by the ears, so is he that passing by becometh excited about a dispute which concerneth him not.
Gleich dem, der einen Hund beim Springen an den Ohren packen will, ist einer, der in fremden Streit sich mischt.
18 As one fatigueth himself shooting off firebrands, arrows, and death:
Wie einer, der aus Zeitvertreib Brandpfeile und Geschosse und Verderben schleudert,
19 So is the man that hath cheated his neighbor, and saith, Behold, I am only jesting.
so ist ein Mann, der seinen Nächsten hintergeht und dann noch sagt. "Ich scherze bloß."
20 Where there is no wood, the fire goeth out: so where there is no whisperer, strife is silenced.
Ist Holz nicht mehr vorhanden, geht das Feuer aus, und ist kein Ohrenbläser da, legt sich der Zank.
21 As charcoals are added to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man fitted to enkindle a dispute.
Zur Glut sind Kohlen da und Holz zum Feuer, und so zum Streitentfachen ein Streitsüchtiger.
22 The words of a whisperer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost chambers of the body.
Des Ohrenbläsers Worte dienen nur dem Zeitvertreib; doch dringen sie gar tief ins Herz.
23 Like silver dross laid over an earthen vessel, so are burning lips with a bad heart.
Dem Gefäß mit unecht Silber überzogen, bei Herzeleid ihm gleichen hitzige Worte.
24 With his lips dissembleth he that hateth, and within himself layeth he up deceit:
Mit seinen Lippen kann der Hasser sich verstellen; in seinem Innern aber hegt er Trug.
25 Though he make his voice sound ever so graciously, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart.
Und wenn er seine Liebe laut beteuert, glaub ihm nicht! Denn sieben Greuel sind in seinem Herzen.
26 If one's hatred be covered by deception, then shall be laid bare his wickedness before a [whole] assembly.
Und mag der Haß durch Heuchelei verborgen werden, es tritt doch seine Bosheit öffentlich zutage.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit will fall therein; and upon him that rolleth a stone, will it return.
Wer eine Grube gräbt, kann selber in sie fallen; wer einen Stein wegwälzt, auf den kann er zurück auch rollen.
28 A lying tongue hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering mouth prepareth [others'] downfall.
Es haßt die lügnerische Zunge ihre Tadler; ein glatter Mund schafft sich Verderben.
