Proverbs 24
1 Be thou not envious of bad men, and do not long to be with them.
No tengas envidia de los hombres malos, ni el deseo de estar con ellos;
2 For their heart meditateth destruction, and of mischief do their lips speak.
para que sus corazones traman la violencia y sus labios hablan de travesuras.
3 Through wisdom is a house built; and through understanding is it firmly established;
A través de la sabiduría se construye una casa; mediante la comprensión se establece;
4 And through knowledge are chambers filled with all manner of precious and pleasant wealth.
por conocimiento las habitaciones se llenan con todos los tesoros raros y hermosos.
5 A wise man is [always] in power; and a man of knowledge fortifieth [his] strength.
Un hombre sabio tiene un gran poder. Un hombre con conocimientos aumenta la fuerza,
6 For by wise counsel canst thou conduct thy war; and there is help in a multitude of counsellors.
pues con una sabia guía libras tu guerra, y la victoria está en muchos asesores.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: in the gate can he not open his mouth.
La sabiduría es demasiado elevada para un tonto. No abre la boca en la puerta.
8 Him that deviseth to do evil, men call a master of wicked devices.
El que conspira para hacer el mal se le llamará intrigante.
9 The counsel of folly is sin; and an abomination to men is the scorner.
Los planes de la locura son pecado. El burlador es detestado por los hombres.
10 If thou despond on the day of distress, thy strength is small.
Si flaqueas en el momento de la dificultad, tu fuerza es pequeña.
11 Deliver those that are taken unto death, and those that are moved away to the slaughter hold back.
¡Rescata a los que están siendo llevados a la muerte! En efecto, ¡retened a los que se tambalean hacia la matanza!
12 If thou shouldst say, Behold, we know not this man: lo, he that weigheth hearts will truly regard it, and he that keepeth thy soul will surely know it; and he will give a recompense to man according to his doing.
Si dices: “He aquí que no sabíamos esto” ¿acaso el que pesa los corazones no lo considera? El que guarda tu alma, ¿no lo sabe? ¿No ha de dar a cada uno según su trabajo?
13 Eat honey, my son, because it is good; and the fine honey, which is sweet to thy palate:
Hijo mío, come miel, porque es buena, los excrementos del panal, que son dulces a su gusto;
14 So obtain the knowledge of wisdom for thy soul: when thou hast found her, then shall there be a [happy] future, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
así conocerás que la sabiduría es para tu alma. Si lo has encontrado, habrá una recompensa: Su esperanza no será cortada.
15 Lie not in wait, O wicked man! against the dwelling of the righteous; waste not his resting-place;
No aceches, malvado, contra la morada de los justos. No destruyas su lugar de descanso;
16 For though the righteous were to fall seven times, he will rise up again; but the wicked shall stumble into misfortune.
porque el justo cae siete veces y se levanta, pero los malvados son derribados por la calamidad.
17 At the fall of thy enemy do not rejoice; and at his stumbling let not thy heart be glad:
No te alegres cuando tu enemigo caiga. No dejes que tu corazón se alegre cuando sea derrocado,
18 Lest the Lord see it and it be displeasing in his eyes, and he turn away from him his wrath.
no sea que Yahvé lo vea y le desagrade, y aleja de él su ira.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, neither be thou envious of the wicked;
No te preocupes por los malhechores, ni tengas envidia de los malvados;
20 For there will be no [happy] future for the bad man: the lamp of the wicked will be quenched.
porque no habrá recompensa para el hombre malo. La lámpara de los malvados se apagará.
21 My son, fear the Lord and the king: with those that are desirous to change do not mingle thyself;
Hijo mío, teme a Yahvé y al rey. No te unas a los rebeldes,
22 For suddenly will their calamity arise; and who knoweth the ruin of both of them!
porque su calamidad surgirá de repente. ¿Quién sabe qué destrucción puede venir de ambos?
23 These things also are for the wise. To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.
Estos son también los dichos de los sabios: Mostrar parcialidad en el juicio no es bueno.
24 Him that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous, will the people denounce, him will nations hold accursed;
El que dice al impío: “Eres justo” los pueblos lo maldecirán, y las naciones lo aborrecerán —
25 But to those that punish delight shall be given, and upon them shall come the blessing of the good.
pero les irá bien a los que condenen a los culpables, y una rica bendición vendrá sobre ellos.
26 Men will kiss the lips of him that giveth a proper answer.
Una respuesta sincera es como un beso en los labios.
27 Prepare without thy work, and make it fit in the field for thyself: and afterward build thy house.
Prepara tu trabajo en el exterior, y preparen sus campos. Después, construye tu casa.
28 Be not without cause a witness against thy neighbor; for wouldst thou beguile with thy lips?
No seas testigo contra tu prójimo sin motivo. No engañes con tus labios.
29 Say not, As he hath done to me so will I do to him: I will recompense every man according to his doing.
No digas: “Haré con él lo que él ha hecho conmigo”; Pagaré al hombre según su trabajo”.
30 By the field of a slothful man I once passed along, and by the vineyard of a man void of sense:
Pasé por el campo del perezoso, por la viña del hombre vacío de entendimiento.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, nettles had covered its surface, and its stone-wall was broken down.
He aquí que todo estaba cubierto de espinas. Su superficie estaba cubierta de ortigas, y su muro de piedra fue derribado.
32 And when I had indeed beheld [this] I took it to my heart: I saw it, and received a warning.
Entonces vi, y consideré bien. Vi y recibí instrucción:
33 “A little [more] sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands in lying down;”
un poco de sueño, un poco de sopor, un pequeño pliegue de las manos para dormir,
34 But then will thy poverty come like a rover; and thy wants as a man armed with a shield.
por lo que su pobreza vendrá como un ladrón y su necesidad como hombre armado.
