Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

2 For thou puttest a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man of a craving desire.

4 Fatigue thyself not to become rich; because thou hast understanding, forbear.
Boei ham khaw kohnue boeh, na yakmingnah nen khaw toeng dae.
5 When thou lettest merely thy eyes fly over it, it is no more: for it will ever make itself wings: like an eagle will it fly toward heaven.
A taengah na mik na hoih la na hoih nama? Tedae om hae mahpawh. A phae cawn, cawn vetih, atha bangla vaan ah a ding lamni a ding eh.
6 Eat not the bread of a man with an evil eye, and do not long for his savory meats;
Moeithae kah buh te caak pah boeh. Anih kah antui te khaw ngaidam rhoela ngaidam boeh.
7 For as though there were a division in his soul, so doth he act: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
A hinglu neh aka nainong bangla amah loh nang taengah, “Ca van, o van,” a ti tangloeng. Tedae, a lungbuei tah nang taengah a khueh moenih.
8 Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou spit out, and thou hast wasted thy pleasant words.
Namah kah kamat ca na caak te na lok hae vetih, na ol ding ni na poeih rhung eh.
9 Speak not before the ears of a fool; for he will despise the intelligence of thy words.
Hlang ang hna ah thui pah boeh. Na olthui dongkah lungmingnah te a hnoelrhoeng hae ni.
10 Remove not the ancient landmark, and into the fields of the fatherless must thou not enter;
Khosuen kah rhi te rhawt boeh, cadah kah khohmuen te khaw cuk thil boeh.
11 For their redeemer is strong; he will indeed plead their cause with thee.
Amah, amih aka tlan tah tlungluen tih, amih kah tuituknah te nang taengah ni han suk eh.
12 Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thy ears to the sayings of knowledge.
Thuituennah he na lungbuei ah, mingnah ol he na hna ah dueh lah.
13 Withhold not from a lad correction; for if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
Thuituennah dongah camoe te hloh boeh. Cungcik neh anih na boh akhaw duek aih mahpawh.
14 Thou wilt indeed beat him with the rod; but thou wilt deliver his soul from perdition. (Sheol h7585)
Nang loh caitueng neh na taam cakhaw, a hinglu ni saelkhui lamkah na huul pah. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, If thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
Ka ca, na lungbuei ni a cueih atah, kai khaw ka lungbuei a kohoe van ni.
16 And my reins shall exult when thy lips speak what is equitable.
Ka kuel pataeng sundaep ngawn ni ta, na hmuilai loh vanat la a thui vaengah te.
17 Let not thy heart be envious against sinners; but [remain] in the fear of the lord all the time.
Hlangtholh rhoek taengah na lungbuei te thatlai boel saeh. Tedae BOEIPA mah hnin takuem ah hinyahnah.
18 For surely there is a future, and thy hope will not be cut off.
Khohmai he a om pueng oeh dongah na ngaiuepnah khaw muei mahpawh.
19 Hear thou, my son, and become wise, and guide thy heart on the right way.
Ka ca nang loh hnatun lamtah cueih lah. Te vaengah na lungbuei kah a longpuei khaw uem van saeh.
20 Be not among those that drink wine immoderately, among those that over-indulge in eating flesh:
Amih yumii taengah, maehkai taengah om boeh.
21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth a man in rags.
Yumii neh carhut long tah khodaeng a pang vetih, ihdut long khaw hnipen ni a bai eh.
22 Hearken unto thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother although she be old.
Nang aka cun na pa ol te hnatun lamtah, na nu khaw a patong vaengah hnoelrhoeng boeh.
23 Buy the truth and sell it not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Oltak he vawtthaih lamtah cueihnah, thuituennah, yakmingnah khaw yoi boeh.
24 The father of the righteous will be greatly glad, and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy through him.
Omngaih coeng, omngaih coeng, hlang dueng aka cun a napa tah omngaih rhoela omngaih coeng. Hlang cueih aka cun khaw a soah a kohoe coeng.
25 Let [then] thy father and thy mother rejoice, and let her that hath born thee be glad.
Na nu neh na pa te a kohoe saeh lamtah nang aka cun khaw omngaih saeh.
26 Give, my son, thy heart unto me, and let thy eyes watch my ways.
Ka ca na lungbuei te kamah taengla m'pae. Na mik loh ka longpuei he a ngaingaih la khueinah saeh.
27 For a harlot is a deep ditch, and a strange woman is a narrow well.
Pumyoi he vaam a dung, kholong nu khaw tangrhom caek la om.
28 She also lieth in wait like a robber, and she increaseth the treacherous among men.
Anih khaw dingca bangla rhongngol tih, hlang rhoek taengah hnukpoh la a thap pah.
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath quarrels? who hath complaints? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
Anunae, unim ca te, ngaisahueng la unim ca te, unimca olpungkacan neh hohmuhnah, kohuetnah aka khueh te unim ca? Lungli lungla la tloh aka yook te unim, a mik aka lingduk te unim.
30 They that tarry late over the wine: they that come to seek for mixed drink.
Misurtui dongah aka bol, yu hoem hamla aka pong dae ni te.
31 Do not look on the wine when it looketh red, when it giveth its color in the cup, when it glideth down so readily.
Misurtui te sungsa dongah a thimyum la a lang vaengah, a mikhmuh boengloeng khuiah vanat la a caeh vaengah khaw so boeh.
32 At the last it will bite like a serpent, and like a basilisk will it sting.
A hmailong ah rhul kah a tuk bangla, rhulthae kah a phuh bangla om ni.
33 Thy eyes will see strange forms, and thy heart will speak perverse things.
Na mik loh a lang la a hmuh vetih, na lungbuei long khaw calaak ol ni a thui eh.
34 And thou wilt be like one that lieth down in the heart of the sea, or as he that lieth on the top of a mast.
Tuitun tuilung kah aka yalh bangla, cungkui soi ah aka yalh bangla na om ni.
35 “They smote me, [but] I suffered no pain; they struck me hard, [but] I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will continue to seek it again.”
Kai he n'taam uh dae a tloh moenih, kai n'thoek uh dae ka yaak moenih. Me vaengah nim ka haenghang vetih a tloe neh ka khoep ham ka hmuh ve,” na ti hae ni.
