Proverbs 21
1 Like brooks of water is a king's heart in the hand of the Lord: whithersoever it pleaseth him doth he turn it.
Des Königs Herz ist in der Hand des HERRN wie Wasserbäche, und er neiget es, wohin er will.
2 Every way of a man is straight in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the hearts.
Einen jeglichen dünkt sein Weg recht sein; aber allein der HERR macht die Herzen gewiß.
3 To exercise righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Wohl und recht tun ist dem HERRN lieber denn Opfer.
4 Haughtiness of the eyes, and an immoderate heart, are the sinful field of the wicked.
Hoffärtige Augen und stolzer Mut und die Leuchte der Gottlosen ist Sünde.
5 The plans of the diligent tend only to plenty; but every hasty man is [destined] only to want.
Die Anschläge eines Endelichen bringen Überfluß; wer aber allzu jach ist, wird mangeln.
6 The getting of treasures by a tongue of falsehood is like the fleeting breath of those that seek death.
Wer Schätze sammelt mit Lügen, der wird fehlen und fallen unter die den Tod suchen.
7 The robbery of the wicked will drag them away; because they refuse to execute justice.
Der Gottlosen Rauben wird sie schrecken; denn sie wollten nicht tun, was recht war.
8 Perverse is the way of the man that is estranged [from goodness]; but as for the pure, his work is upright.
Wer einen andern Weg gehet, der ist verkehrt; wer aber in seinem Befehl gehet, des Werk ist recht.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of a roof, than with a quarrelsome woman in a roomy house.
Es ist besser wohnen im Winkel auf dem Dach, denn bei einem zänkischen Weibe in einem Hause beisammen.
10 The soul of the wicked longeth for evil: his neighbor findeth no grace in his eyes.
Die Seele des Gottlosen wünschet Arges und gönnet seinem Nächsten nichts.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is taught intelligence, he receiveth knowledge.
Wenn der Spötter gestraft wird, so werden die Albernen weise; und wenn man einen Weisen unterrichtet, so wird er vernünftig.
12 The righteous regardeth attentively the house of the wicked; [but God] overturneth the wicked into unhappiness.
Der Gerechte hält sich weislich gegen des Gottlosen Haus; aber die Gottlosen denken nur Schaden zu tun.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears against the cry of the poor, he also will cry himself, but shall not be answered.
Wer seine Ohren verstopft vor dem Schreien des Armen, der wird auch rufen und nicht erhöret werden.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a bribe in the bosom, strong fury.
Eine heimliche Gabe stillet den Zorn und ein Geschenk im Schoß den heftigen Grimm.
15 It is joy to the righteous to execute justice; but it is a terror to wrong-doers.
Es ist dem Gerechten eine Freude zu tun, was recht ist, aber eine Furcht den Übeltätern.
16 The man that wandereth astray out of the way of intelligence shall rest in the assembly of the departed.
Ein Mensch, der vom Wege der Klugheit irret, der wird bleiben in der Toten Gemeine.
17 He that loveth pleasure will be a man of want: he that loveth wine and oil will not become rich.
Wer gern in Wollust lebt, wird mangeln; und wer Wein und Öl liebet, wird nicht reich.
18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous shall be put in the stead of the upright.
Der Gottlose muß für den Gerechten gegeben werden und der Verächter für die Frommen.
19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a quarrelsome and vexatious woman.
Es ist besser wohnen im wüsten Lande denn, bei einem zänkischen und zornigen Weibe.
20 There are a desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man will swallow it up.
Im Hause des Weisen ist ein lieblicher Schatz und Öl aber ein Narr verschlemmt es.
21 He that pursueth righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.
Wer der Barmherzigkeit und Güte nachjagt, der findet das Leben, Barmherzigkeit und Ehre.
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength in which they trusted.
Ein Weiser gewinnet die Stadt der Starken und stürzet ihre Macht durch ihre Sicherheit.
23 Whoso guardeth his mouth and his tongue guardeth his soul against distresses.
Wer seinen Mund und Zunge bewahret, der bewahret seine Seele vor Angst.
24 The presumptuous and proud, scorner is his name, dealeth in the wrath of presumption.
Der stolz und vermessen ist, heißt ein loser Mensch, der im Zorn Stolz beweiset.
25 The longing of the slothful will kill him; for his hands refuse to labor.
Der Faule stirbt über seinem Wünschen; denn seine Hände wollen nichts tun.
26 All the day he feeleth a great longing; but the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.
Er wünscht täglich; aber der Gerechte gibt und versagt nicht.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a sinful purpose?
Der Gottlosen Opfer ist ein Greuel; denn sie werden in Sünden geopfert.
28 A lying witness shall perish; but the man that is obedient [to the law] can speak for ever.
Ein lügenhaftiger Zeuge wird umkommen; aber wer gehorchet, den läßt man auch allezeit wiederum reden.
29 A wicked man showeth impudence in his face; but as for the upright, he will consider well his way.
Der Gottlose fährt mit dem Kopf hindurch; aber wer fromm ist, des Weg wird bestehen.
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.
Es hilft keine Weisheit, kein Verstand, kein Rat wider den HERRN.
31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but with the Lord is the victory.
Rosse werden zum Streittage bereitet; aber der Sieg kommt vom HERRN.
