< Proverbs 2 >
1 My son, if thou wouldst but accept my words, and treasure up my commandments with thee;
ʻE hoku foha, kapau te ke maʻu ʻa ʻeku ngaahi lea, mo fakafufū ʻiate koe ʻa ʻeku ngaahi fekau;
2 To let thy ear listen unto wisdom: [if] thou wouldst incline thy heart to understanding.
Koeʻuhi ke fakatokangaʻi ho telinga ki he poto, pea ke tokanga ai ho loto ki he faʻa fakakaukau;
3 For if thou wilt call after intelligence; if after understanding thou wilt lift up thy voice;
ʻIo, kapau te ke tangi ki he ʻilo, pea ke hiki hake ho leʻo ke maʻu ʻae fakakaukau:
4 If thou wilt seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:
Kapau te ke kumi ki ai ʻo hangē ko e siliva, pea hakule ki ai ʻo hangē ko e koloa kuo fufū;
5 Then wilt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and the knowledge of God wilt thou find.
Te ke toki ʻilo ai ʻae manavahē kia Sihova, pea maʻu ʻae ʻiloʻi ʻoe ʻOtua.
6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [come] knowledge and understanding.
He ʻoku foaki ʻe Sihova ʻae poto: ʻoku haʻu mei hono fofonga ʻae ʻilo mo e fakakaukau.
7 He treasureth up sound wisdom for the righteous, as a shield to those that walk in integrity:
ʻOku tokonaki ʻe ia ʻae poto ʻaonga maʻa e kakai māʻoniʻoni: ko e fakaū ia kiate kinautolu ʻoku ʻaʻeva ʻi he angatonu.
8 That men may keep the paths of justice; and the way of his pious servants doth he guard.
ʻOku ne tauhi ʻae hala ʻoe fakamaau; pea ʻoku ne maluʻi ʻae hala ʻo ʻene kakai māʻoniʻoni.
9 Then wilt thou understand righteousness, and justice, and equity: yea, every track of goodness.
Pea te ke toki ʻilo ai ʻae māʻoniʻoni, mo e fakamaau, mo e fai totonu; ʻio, ʻae hala lelei kotoa pē.
10 For wisdom will enter thy heart, and knowledge will be pleasant unto thy soul;
ʻOka hū ʻae poto ki ho loto, pea mālie ʻae ʻilo ki ho laumālie;
11 Discretion will watch over thee, understanding will keep thee;
ʻE fakamoʻui koe ʻe he faʻa fakakaukau, pea ʻe tauhi koe ʻe he poto:
12 To deliver thee from the way of the bad, from the man that speaketh perverse things;
Ke fakamoʻui koe mei he hala ʻoe tangata kovi, mei he tangata ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa kovi;
13 [From those] who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
ʻAia ʻoku liʻaki ʻae hala ʻoe māʻoniʻoni, kae ʻalu ʻi he ngaahi hala ʻoe fakapoʻuli;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, who are delighted in the perverseness of the bad;
ʻAia ʻoku fiefia ke fai kovi, pea ʻoku fiemālie ʻi he talangataʻa ʻae angahala;
15 Who as regardeth their paths are crooked, and froward in their tracks.
Pea ʻoku pikopiko hono ngaahi hala, pea kovi ʻa hono ngaahi ʻaluʻanga:
16 To deliver thee from the adulteress, from the alien woman that useth flattering speeches;
Ke fakamoʻui koe mei he fefine muli, ʻio, mei he muli ʻoku lea fakaoloolo;
17 That forsaketh the friend of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
ʻAia kuo ne liʻaki ʻae fakahinohino ʻi heʻene kei siʻi, pea kuo ne fakangalongaloʻi ʻae fuakava ʻa hono ʻOtua.
18 For she sinketh unto death—her house, and unto the departed [lead] her tracks.
He ʻoku tahifohifo hono fale ki he mate, pea mo hono ʻalunga ki he kakai mate.
19 All that come unto her return not again, and they will not reach the paths of life.
ʻOku ʻikai toe foki mai ha taha ʻoku ʻalu atu kiate ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ke puke ʻekinautolu ki he ngaahi hala ʻoe moʻui.
20 In order that thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and observe the paths of the righteous.
Koeʻuhi ke ke ʻeveʻeva koe ʻi he hala ʻae kakai angalelei, pea ke maʻu ʻae ngaahi ʻaluʻanga ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
21 For the upright will dwell on the earth, and the perfect will be left remaining on it.
Koeʻuhi ʻe nofo ʻae angatonu ʻi he fonua, pea ʻe nofomaʻu ʻi ai ʻae haohaoa.
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous shall be plucked up therefrom.
Ka ʻe motuhi atu ʻae angahala mei he māmani, pea ʻe taʻaki fuʻu hake mei ai ʻae fai kovi.
