Proverbs 18
1 He that separateth himself [from God] seeketh his own desires: at every sound wisdom is he enraged.
El que se mantiene separado para su propósito privado va en contra de todo buen sentido.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but in laying open what is in his heart.
Un hombre necio no tiene placer en él entendimiento, sino sólo para que lo que está en su corazón salga a la luz.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with dishonorable acts, disgrace.
Cuando llega el malhechor, una baja opinión viene con él, y con la pérdida del honor viene la vergüenza.
4 Like deep waters are the words of a [wise] man's mouth, and a bubbling brook is the well-spring of wisdom.
Las palabras de la boca de un hombre son como aguas profundas; la fuente de la sabiduría es como una corriente que fluye.
5 It is not good to favor the person of the wicked, to wrest [the cause of the] righteous in judgment.
Tener respeto por la persona del malhechor no es bueno, o dar una decisión equivocada contra el recto.
6 The lips of the fool come with contention, and his mouth calleth for blows.
Los labios de un hombre necio son causa de pelea, y su boca lo abre a los golpes.
7 The mouth of the fool is a destruction to himself, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
La boca del necio es su destrucción, y sus labios son una red para su alma.
8 The words of a whisperer are as wounds, and they go down indeed into the innermost parts of the body.
Las palabras de uno que dice mal de su prójimo en secreto son como alimento dulce, y descienden a las partes internas del estómago.
9 He also that showeth himself slothful in his work is a brother to the destroyer.
El que no piensa en su obra, es hermano del que hace destrucción.
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower, whereunto the righteous runneth, and is placed in safety.
El nombre del Señor es una torre fuerte: el hombre recto que corre hacia ella está a salvo.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong town, and as a towering wall in his own conceit.
La propiedad de un hombre rico es su pueblo fuerte, y es como un alto muro en los pensamientos de su corazón.
12 Before downfall the heart of man becometh haughty, and before honor goeth humility.
Antes de la destrucción, el corazón del hombre está lleno de orgullo, y antes el honor es un espíritu gentil.
13 When one returneth an answer before he understandeth [the question], it is folly unto him and shame.
Dar una respuesta antes de oír es una necedad y una causa de vergüenza.
14 The spirit of a man will readily bear his disease; but a depressed spirit who can bear:
El espíritu de un hombre será su apoyo cuando esté enfermo; pero, ¿cómo puede levantarse un espíritu quebrantado?
15 The heart of the man of understanding will obtain knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
El corazón del hombre de buen sentido obtiene conocimiento; el oído del sabio está buscando conocimiento.
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and before great men will it lead him.
La ofrenda de un hombre le hace lugar, dejándolo ir delante de grandes hombres.
17 He that is first in his cause seemeth just; but when his neighbor cometh, then will it be investigated.
El hombre que primero presenta su causa ante el juez parece tener razón; pero luego viene su vecino y pone su causa y expone la verdad.
18 The lot causeth disputes to cease, and it decideth between the mighty.
La decisión del azar pone fin a la discusión, separando al fuerte.
19 A brother offended is harder [to be won] than a strong town; and quarrels [among brothers] are like the bars of a castle.
Un hermano herido es como una ciudad amurallada, y los actos violentos separan como las rejas de una torre cerrada.
20 From the fruit of a man's mouth is his body satisfied; with the product of his lips doth he satisfy himself.
Con el fruto de la boca de un hombre, su estómago estará lleno; el producto de sus labios será suyo en toda su extensión.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it will eat its fruit.
La muerte y la vida están en poder de la lengua; y aquellos a quienes les es querido tendrán su fruto para su alimento.
22 Whoso hath found a wife hath found happiness, and hath obtained favor from the Lord.
El que tiene esposa obtiene algo bueno, y tiene la aprobación del Señor.
23 The poor speaketh entreatingly; but the rich answereth roughly.
El pobre hace peticiones de gracia, pero el hombre rico da una respuesta áspera.
24 A man's many companions are hurtful to him; but there is many a friend that cleaveth closer than a brother.
Hay amigos que pueden ser la destrucción de un hombre, pero hay amigos que se mantiene más cerca que un hermano.
