Proverbs 16
1 Unto man belong the resolves of the heart; but from the Lord cometh the expression of the tongue.
मनुष्य के मन में योजना अवश्य होती हैं, किंतु कार्य का आदेश याहवेह के द्वारा ही किया जाता है.
2 Every one of the ways of a man is pure in his own eyes; but the Lord measureth the spirits.
मनुष्य की दृष्टि में उसका अपना समस्त चालचलन शुद्ध ही होता है, किंतु याहवेह ही उसकी अंतरात्मा को परखते हैं.
3 Commit unto the Lord thy works, and thy plans will be firmly established.
अपना समस्त उपक्रम याहवेह पर डाल दो, कि वह तुम्हारी योजनाओं को सफल कर सकें.
4 Every thing hath the Lord wrought for its destined end; yes, even the wicked for the day of unhappiness.
याहवेह ने हर एक वस्तु को एक विशेष उद्देश्य से सृजा— यहां तक कि दुष्ट को घोर विपत्ति के दिन के लिए.
5 An abomination of the Lord is every one that is proud of heart: the hand [of God] being against [his] hand, he shall not go unpunished.
हर एक अहंकारी हृदय याहवेह के लिए घृणास्पद है; स्मरण रहे: दंड से कोई भी नहीं बचेगा.
6 Through kindness and truth is iniquity atoned for; and by the fear of the Lord [men] depart from evil.
निस्वार्थ प्रेम तथा खराई द्वारा अपराधों का प्रायश्चित किया जाता है; तथा याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा के द्वारा बुराई से मुड़ना संभव होता है.
7 When the Lord receiveth in favor a man's ways, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
जब किसी व्यक्ति का चालचलन याहवेह को भाता है, वह उसके शत्रुओं तक को उसके प्रति मित्र बना देते हैं.
8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great incomes through injustice.
सीमित संसाधनों के साथ धर्मी का जीवन अनुचित रूप से अर्जित अपार संपत्ति से उत्तम है.
9 A man's heart deviseth his way; but the Lord directeth firmly his steps.
मानवीय मस्तिष्क अपने लिए उपयुक्त मार्ग निर्धारित कर लेता है, किंतु उसके पैरों का निर्धारण याहवेह ही करते हैं.
10 There should be a wise sentence on the lips of the king: his mouth should never commit a trespass in judging.
राजा के मुख द्वारा घोषित निर्णय दिव्य वाणी के समान होते हैं, तब उसके निर्णयों में न्याय-विसंगति अनुपयुक्त है.
11 A just balance and scales belong to the Lord: his work are all the weights in the bag.
शुद्ध माप याहवेह द्वारा निर्धारित होते हैं; सभी प्रकार के माप पर उन्हीं की स्वीकृति है.
12 It should be an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; for through righteousness [alone] can a throne be established.
बुराई राजा पर शोभा नहीं देती, क्योंकि सिंहासन की स्थिरता धर्म पर आधारित है.
13 Righteous lips [should obtain] the favor of kings; and him that speaketh uprightly should they love.
राजाओं को न्यायपूर्ण वाणी भाती है; जो जन सत्य बोलता है, वह उसे ही मान देता है.
14 The fury of a king is like the messengers of death; but a wise man will appease it.
राजा का कोप मृत्यु के दूत के समान होता है, किंतु ज्ञानवान व्यक्ति इस कोप को ठंडा कर देता है.
15 In the light of the king's countenance there is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.
राजा के मुखमंडल का प्रकाश जीवनदान है; उसकी कृपादृष्टि उन मेघों के समान है, जो वसन्त ऋतु की वृष्टि लेकर आते हैं.
16 How much better is it to obtain wisdom than gold! and to obtain understanding is preferable to silver!
स्वर्ण की अपेक्षा ज्ञान को प्राप्त करना कितना अधिक उत्तम है, और बुद्धिमत्ता की उपलब्धि चांदी पाने से.
17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he preserveth his soul that watcheth his way.
धर्मी का राजमार्ग कुटिलता को देखे बिना उसे दूर छोड़ता हुआ आगे बढ़ जाता है. जो अपने चालचलन के प्रति न्यायी रहता है, अपने जीवन की रक्षा ही करता है.
18 Before downfall [goeth] pride, and before stumbling, haughtiness of spirit.
सर्वनाश के पूर्व अहंकार, तथा ठोकर के पूर्व घमंड प्रकट होता है.
19 Better is it to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide spoil with the proud.
निर्धनों के मध्य विनम्र भाव में रहना दिन के साथ लूट की सामग्री में सम्मिलित होने से उत्तम है.
20 He that reflecteth on a matter wisely will find happiness; and whoso trusteth in the Lord—happiness attend him!
जो कोई शिक्षा को ध्यानपूर्वक सुनता है, उत्तम प्रतिफल प्राप्त करता है और धन्य होता है वह, जिसने याहवेह पर भरोसा रखा है.
21 The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips increaseth information.
कुशाग्रबुद्धि के व्यक्ति अनुभवी व्यक्ति के रूप में प्रख्यात हो जाते हैं, और मधुर बातों से अभिव्यक्ति ग्रहण योग्य हो जाती है.
22 Intelligence is a source of life unto its possessor; but the correction of fools is folly.
बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति में समझ जीवन-प्रदायी सोता समान है, किंतु मूर्ख को अपनी ही मूर्खता के द्वारा दंड प्राप्त हो जाता है.
23 The heart of the wise maketh his mouth intelligent, and upon his lips he increaseth information.
बुद्धिमानों के मन उनके मुंह को समझदार बनाते हैं और उनके ओंठ ज्ञान प्रसार करते हैं, और उसका वक्तव्य श्रोता स्वीकार भी कर लेते हैं.
24 [Like] the droppings of honey are pleasant sayings, sweet to the soul, and healing to the bones.
सुहावने शब्द मधु के छत्ते-समान होते हैं, जिनसे मन को शांति तथा देह को स्वास्थ्य प्राप्त होता है.
25 There is many a way which seemeth even before a man, but its end are the ways unto death.
एक ऐसा मार्ग है, जो उपयुक्त जान पड़ता है, किंतु इसका अंत है मृत्यु-द्वार.
26 The desire of the laborer laboreth for him; for his mouth imposeth it on him.
श्रमिक के श्रम की प्रेरणा है उसकी भूख; अपने उदर की सतत मांग पर ही वह श्रम करता जाता है.
27 An ungodly man diggeth up mischief, and on his lips there is as it were a scathing fire.
अधर्मी व्यक्ति बुराई की योजना करता रहता है, और जब वह बातें करता है, तो उसके शब्द भड़कती अग्नि-समान होते हैं.
28 A perverse man scattereth strife; and a whisperer separateth confident friends.
कुटिल मनोवृत्ति का व्यक्ति कलह फैलाता जाता है, तथा परम मित्रों में फूट का कारण वह व्यक्ति होता है, जो कानाफूसी करता है.
29 The man of violence misleadeth his neighbor, and maketh him go on a way which is not good.
हिंसक प्रवृत्ति का व्यक्ति अपने पड़ोसी को आकर्षित कर उसे बुराई के लिए प्रेरित कर देता है.
30 He shutteth his eyes to devise perverse things: when he compresseth his lips then hath he fully resolved on evil.
वह, जो अपने नेत्रों से इशारे करता है, वह निश्चयतः कुटिल युक्ति गढ़ रहा होता है; जो अपने ओंठ चबाता है, वह विसंगत युक्ति कर रहा होता है.
31 An ornamental crown is the hoary head, on the way of righteousness can it be found.
श्वेत केश शानदार मुकुट हैं; ये धर्ममय मार्ग पर चलने से प्राप्त होते है.
32 One that is slow to anger is better than a hero; and he that ruleth his spirit, than the conqueror of a city.
एक योद्धा से बेहतर वह है, जो विलंब से क्रोध करता है; जिसने एक नगर को अधीन कर लिया है, उससे भी उत्तम है जिसने अपनी अंतरात्मा पर नियंत्रण कर लिया है!
33 In the lap the lot is cast: but from the Lord cometh the whole of its decision.
किसी निर्णय पर पहुंचने के लिए मत अवश्य लिया जाता है, किंतु हर एक निष्कर्ष याहवेह द्वारा ही निर्धारित किया जाता है.
