Proverbs 12
1 Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
Den sig gerna straffa låter, han varder klok; men den der ostraffad vara vill, han blifver en dåre.
2 The good obtaineth favor of the Lord; but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
Den der from är, honom vederfars tröst af Herranom; men en ond man varder förkastad.
3 A man cannot be firmly established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous will not be moved.
Ett ogudaktigt väsende främjar menniskona intet; men dens rättfärdigas rot skall blifva.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but as rottenness in his bones is one that bringeth shame [on him].
En idog qvinna är sins mans krona; men en oidog är såsom var i hans ben.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are justice: the best counsels of the wicked are deceit.
De rättfärdigas tankar äro redelige; men de ogudaktigas anslag äro bedrägeri.
6 The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright will deliver them.
De ogudaktigas anslag vakta efter blod; men de frommas mun friar dem.
7 The wicked are suddenly overthrown, and are no more; but the house of the righteous will endure.
De ogudaktige skola varda omstörte, och icke mer vara till; men dens rättfärdigas hus blifver beståndandes.
8 In accordance with his intelligence is a man praised; but he that is perverse of heart will come to be despised.
Ett godt råd varder (dock på ändalyktene) lofvadt; men arg list kommer på skam.
9 Better is he that is lightly esteemed who hath a servant, than he that aimeth after honor, and lacketh bread.
Den som ringa är, och tager vara uppå sitt, han är bättre än den der stor vill vara, och honom fattas bröd.
10 A righteous man careth for the life of his beast; but the mercies of the wicked are cruelty.
Den rättfärdige förbarmar sig öfver sin ök; men de ogudaktigas hjerta är obarmhertigt.
11 He that tilleth his ground will be satisfied with bread; but he that runneth after idle persons is void of sense.
Den som sin åker brukar, han skall få bröd tillfyllest; men den som går efter de ting, som intet af nödene äro, han är en dåre.
12 The wicked is covetous for the net of evil men; but [God] giveth root to the righteous.
Dens ogudaktigas lust är till att göra skada; men dens rättfärdigas rot skall bära frukt.
13 In the transgression of his lips is the snare of the wicked; but the righteous cometh out of distress.
Den onde varder gripen i sin egen falska ord; men den rättfärdige undkommer ångest.
14 From the fruit of his mouth will a man be satisfied with what is good; and the recompense of a man's hands will be brought back unto him.
Mycket godt kommer enom genom munsens frukt; och menniskone varder vedergullet efter som hennes händer förtjent hafva.
15 The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Enom dåra behagar hans sed väl; men den der råde lyder, han är vis.
16 The wrath of the fool is known on the very day; but he that concealeth the disgrace is prudent.
En dåre beviser sina vrede snarliga; men den der smälek fördöljer, han är vis.
17 He that uttereth truth announceth righteousness; but a false witness, deceit.
Den som sannfärdig är, han säger hvad rätt är; men ett falskt vittne bedrager.
18 There is some one that useth words [which are] like the thrusts of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is healing.
Den der ovarliga talar, han stinger såsom ett svärd; men de visas tunga är helsosam.
19 The lip of truth will stand firm for ever; but only for a moment the tongue of falsehood.
En sannfärdig mun består evigliga; men en falsk tunga består icke länge.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those that contrive evil; but for the counsellors of peace there is joy.
De som något ondt råda, bedraga sig sjelfva; men de som tillfrid råda, de skola glädja sig deraf.
21 No wrong can come unawares to the righteous; but the wicked are full of evil.
Dem rättfärdiga varder intet ondt vederfarandes; men de ogudaktige skola med olycko fulla varda.
22 An abomination of the Lord are lips of falsehood; but they that deal in faithfulness [obtain] his favor.
Falske munnar äro Herranom en styggelse; men de som troliga handla, de behaga honom väl.
23 A prudent man concealeth [his] knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth [their] folly.
En vis man gör icke mycket af sin klokhet; men de dårars hjerta utropar sin dårskap.
24 The hand of the diligent will bear rule; but the indolent must become tributary.
En trifven hand skall varda väldig; men den som som lat är, hon måste skatt gifva.
25 If there be care in the heart of man, let him suppress it; and a good word will change it into joy.
Sorg i hjertana kränker; men ett vänligit ord fröjdar.
26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
Den rättfärdige hafver bättre än hans näste; men de ogudaktigas väg förförer dem.
27 The indolent roasteth not that which he hath caught in hunting; but the most precious wealth of man is diligence.
Enom latom lyckas icke hans handel; men en trifven menniska varder rik.
28 On the path of righteousness there is life; and on her pathway there is immortality,
På rättom väg är lif, och på farnom stig är ingen död.
