Proverbs 10
1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causeth [his] father to rejoice; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
Die Sprüche Salomos sind folgende: Ein weiser Sohn macht seinem Vater Freude; ein törichter ist seiner Mutter Gram.
2 Treasures of wickedness will not profit aught; but righteousness will deliver from death.
Unnütz sind Schätze, frevelhaft erworben; nur Tugend kann vorm Tode schützen.
3 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; but the sinful desires of the wicked will he cast away.
Der Herr läßt nicht der Frommen Hunger ungestillt; der Frevler Gier stößt er zurück.
4 He becometh poor that laboreth with an indolent hand, but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
Die faule Hand schafft Armut; die Hand der Fleißigen schafft Reichtum.
5 He that gathereth in summer is an intelligent son; [but] he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Wer schon im Sommer sammelt, der ist klug, verächtlich, wer die Erntezeit verschläft.
6 Blessings come upon the head of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
Aufs Haupt der Frommen strömen Segnungen; der Frevler Mund bringt Unheil.
7 The memory of the just is [destined] to be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.
Des Frommen Name dient zum Segnen; des Frevlers Name schwindet.
8 The wise in heart will accept commandments; but he that is a fool in his speaking will stumble.
Wer weisen Herzens ist, nimmt die Gebote an; nur wer ein Narrenmaul besitzt, verwirft sie.
9 He that walketh uprightly ever walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways will be punished.
Wer in der Unschuld lebt, tritt sicher auf; wer auf verkehrten Wegen wandelt, dem geht's schlimm.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth vexation; and he that is a fool in his speaking will stumble.
Wer mit dem Auge blinzelt, bereitet Kränkung, und wer ein Narrenmaul besitzt, hetzt auf.
11 A source of life is the mouth of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
Des Frommen Mund - ein Lebensborn; des Frevlers Mund nur Unrecht birgt.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love throweth a cover over all transgressions.
Der Haß legt Zwistigkeiten bloß; doch alle Sünden deckt die Liebe zu.
13 On the lips of the man of understanding there is found wisdom: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of sense.
Gefunden wird durch eines Weisen Lippen Weisheit, doch auch ein Stock für eines Unverständigen Rücken.
14 Wise men treasure up knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish is an approaching terror.
Die Weisen bergen ihre Wissenschaft; des Toren Mund ist nahendes Verderben.
15 The wealth of the rich man is his strong town: the terror of the poor is their poverty.
Des Reichen Habe ist ihm eine feste Stadt; den Dürftigen ist ihre Armut ihre schwache Seite.
16 The labor of the righteous [tendeth] to life: the product of the wicked is for sin.
Des Frommen Lohn dient für das Leben, des Frevlers Einkommen für die Verdammnis.
17 On the way unto life is he that observeth correction; but he that forsaketh reproof is in error.
Dem Leben geht entgegen, wer auf Mahnung hört; wer aber Rüge nicht beachtet, wandelt irre.
18 He that hideth hatred hath lips of falsehood; and he that spreadeth abroad an evil report, is a fool.
Wer Haß mit lügenhaften Lippen will bedecken, ist gerade so ein Tor wie jener, der üble Nachrede verbreitet.
19 In a multitude of words transgression cannot be avoided; but he that refraineth his lips is intelligent.
Bei vielem Reden geht's nicht ohne Fehler ab; wer aber seine Lippen zügelt, der tut klug.
20 [Like] choice silver is the tongue of the righteous: the heart of the wicked is worth but very little.
Ein auserlesenes Silber ist des Frommen Zunge; des Gottlosen Verstand ist wenig wert.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die through lack of sense.
Gerechte Lippen haben viele Güter; die Toren aber sterben durch den Unverstand.
22 The blessing of the Lord it is which maketh rich, and painful labor addeth nothing thereto.
Reich macht des Herren Segen, und nicht bereichert eigene Mühe so wie er.
23 It is as sport to a fool to do wicked deeds; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
Die Schandtat dünkt dem Toren nur ein Scherz, dem klugen Mann jedoch ein Übermut.
24 What the wicked dreadeth, that will come upon him: but the longing of the righteous will God grant.
Wovor dem Frevler graut, gerade das trifft ihn, und so erfüllet er der Frommen Wunsch.
25 As the whirlwind passeth by, the wicked is no more; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
So wie ein Sturm vorüberbraust und nicht mehr ist, so auch der Frevler; der Fromme aber steht auf ewig festem Grund.
26 As vinegar is to the teeth, and as smoke is to the eyes: so is the sluggard to those that send him.
Was Essig für die Zähne, was Rauch ist für die Augen, das ist der Faule seinem Auftraggeber.
27 The fear of the Lord increaseth [man's] days; but the years of the wicked will be shortened.
Die Furcht des Herrn vermehrt die Lebenstage; der Frevler Jahre aber werden oft verkürzt.
28 The expectation of the righteous is joy; but the hope of the wicked shall perish.
Der Frommen Harren wird in Freude enden; der Frevler Hoffnung wird zunichte.
29 The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the upright; but terror is destined to the workers of injustice.
Schutzwehr für Redliche, das ist des Herren Walten, für Übeltäter aber Grund zur Furcht.
30 The righteous shall never be removed; but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
Ein Frommer wird in Ewigkeit nicht wanken; die Frevler aber werden nicht im Lande bleiben dürfen.
31 The mouth of the just uttereth wisdom; but the tongue of perverseness shall be cut out.
Des Frommen Mund nimmt zu an Weisheit; dem Untergang verfällt die falsche Zunge.
32 The lips of the righteous know [how to obtain] favor; but the mouth of the wicked [speaketh] perverseness.
Des Frommen Lippen kennen Gütigkeit, der Mund der Frevler aber Hinterlist.
