Proverbs 10
1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causeth [his] father to rejoice; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
Le fils sage réjouit son père; le fils insensé est le chagrin de sa mère.
2 Treasures of wickedness will not profit aught; but righteousness will deliver from death.
Les trésors ne serviront de rien aux pervers; mais l'équité délivrera de la mort.
3 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; but the sinful desires of the wicked will he cast away.
Le Seigneur ne laissera pas mourir de faim l'âme du juste; mais Il détruira la vie des impies.
4 He becometh poor that laboreth with an indolent hand, but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
L'indigence abaisse l'homme; mais des mains fortes enrichissent. Le fils bien enseigné sera sage, et il se fera servir par l'insensé.
5 He that gathereth in summer is an intelligent son; [but] he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Le fils prudent n'a point à souffrir de la grande chaleur; mais le fils pervers est un épi consumé par le vent pendant la moisson.
6 Blessings come upon the head of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
La bénédiction du Seigneur est sur la tête du juste; mais des deuils imprévus couvrent la tête des impies.
7 The memory of the just is [destined] to be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.
La mémoire des justes a la louange pour elle; mais le nom des impies s'éteint.
8 The wise in heart will accept commandments; but he that is a fool in his speaking will stumble.
Le sage recueille les commandements en son cœur; mais l'homme aux lèvres indiscrètes prend des détours et trébuche.
9 He that walketh uprightly ever walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways will be punished.
Celui qui marche en sa simplicité, marche avec confiance; celui qui se détourne dans ses voies sera découvert.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth vexation; and he that is a fool in his speaking will stumble.
Celui qui approuve d'un regard rusé prépare toute sorte de chagrins aux hommes; mais celui qui réprimande avec franchise est un pacificateur.
11 A source of life is the mouth of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
Il y a une source de vie dans la main du juste; mais la perdition est cachée dans la bouche des impies.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love throweth a cover over all transgressions.
La haine suscite la discorde; l'amitié protège tous ceux qui n'aiment point les querelles.
13 On the lips of the man of understanding there is found wisdom: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of sense.
Celui dont les lèvres professent la sagesse frappe d'une verge l'homme privé de sens.
14 Wise men treasure up knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish is an approaching terror.
Les sages cachent leur science; mais la bouche du téméraire le conduit à la confusion.
15 The wealth of the rich man is his strong town: the terror of the poor is their poverty.
La fortune des riches est leur forteresse, et la pauvreté est pour les impies le brisement du cœur.
16 The labor of the righteous [tendeth] to life: the product of the wicked is for sin.
Les œuvres des justes donnent la vie; mais les fruits des impies sont autant de péchés.
17 On the way unto life is he that observeth correction; but he that forsaketh reproof is in error.
L'instruction garde droites les voies de la vie; mais l'instruction superficielle égare.
18 He that hideth hatred hath lips of falsehood; and he that spreadeth abroad an evil report, is a fool.
Les paroles bien mesurées recèlent la haine; mais ceux qui se répandent en injures sont des plus insensés.
19 In a multitude of words transgression cannot be avoided; but he that refraineth his lips is intelligent.
Par la multitude des paroles, tu n'éviteras pas le péché; par la discrétion des lèvres, tu seras sage.
20 [Like] choice silver is the tongue of the righteous: the heart of the wicked is worth but very little.
La langue du juste est de l'argent pur; mais le cœur de l'impie est sans valeur.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die through lack of sense.
Les lèvres des justes savent des vérités sublimes; les insensés meurent dans l'indigence.
22 The blessing of the Lord it is which maketh rich, and painful labor addeth nothing thereto.
La bénédiction du Seigneur est sur la tête du juste; elle l'enrichit, et il ne s'y joindra aucune tristesse de cœur.
23 It is as sport to a fool to do wicked deeds; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
L'insensé fait le mal en riant; la sagesse de l'homme enfante la prudence.
24 What the wicked dreadeth, that will come upon him: but the longing of the righteous will God grant.
L'impie est emporté dans sa perdition; mais le désir du juste est exaucé.
25 As the whirlwind passeth by, the wicked is no more; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
Comme la tempête passe, ainsi l'impie disparaît; le juste s'en détourne, et il est sauvé pour tous les siècles.
26 As vinegar is to the teeth, and as smoke is to the eyes: so is the sluggard to those that send him.
Comme le fruit vert nuit aux dents et la fumée aux yeux, de même l'iniquité nuit aux injustes.
27 The fear of the Lord increaseth [man's] days; but the years of the wicked will be shortened.
La crainte du Seigneur multiplie les jours; mais les années des impies sont abrégées.
28 The expectation of the righteous is joy; but the hope of the wicked shall perish.
La joie du juste est durable; l'espérance des impies périra.
29 The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the upright; but terror is destined to the workers of injustice.
La crainte du Seigneur est la forteresse du saint; mais l'affection vient à ceux qui font le mal.
30 The righteous shall never be removed; but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
Le juste ne se relâchera jamais; mais les impies n'habiteront pas la terre.
31 The mouth of the just uttereth wisdom; but the tongue of perverseness shall be cut out.
La bouche du juste distille la sagesse; la langue des impies périra.
32 The lips of the righteous know [how to obtain] favor; but the mouth of the wicked [speaketh] perverseness.
Les lèvres du juste distillent la grâce; la bouche des impies, la perversité.
