Obadiah 1
1 The vision of 'Obadiah: Thus hath said the Lord Eternal concerning Edom, A rumor have we heard from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her to war.
La vision d'Abdias. Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Yahvé au sujet d'Édom. Nous avons entendu des nouvelles de Yahvé, et un ambassadeur est envoyé parmi les nations, disant: « Levez-vous, et levons-nous contre elle dans la bataille.
2 Behold, I make thee small among the nations: thou shalt be greatly despised.
Voici, je t'ai rendu petit parmi les nations. Tu es grandement méprisée.
3 The presumption of thy heart hath beguiled thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
L'orgueil de ton cœur t'a trompé, toi qui habites dans les fentes du rocher, dont la demeure est élevée, et qui dis en son cœur: Qui me fera descendre à terre?
4 Though thou wert to rise as high as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.
Tu as beau monter comme l'aigle, et ton nid est placé parmi les étoiles, je t'en ferai descendre, dit Yahvé.
5 How? are thieves come to thee? or night-prowling robbers? how destroyed art thou! would they not have stolen till they had enough? if grape-gatherers had come to thee, would they not have left some gleanings?
« Si des voleurs venaient chez toi, si des brigands de nuit - oh, quel désastre t'attend - ne voleraient-ils pas seulement jusqu'à ce qu'ils en aient assez? Si des vendangeurs venaient chez toi, ne laisseraient-ils pas des raisins à glaner?
6 How are [the treasures] of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things laid open!
Comme Esaü sera mis à sac! Comme on cherche ses trésors cachés!
7 Up to the border have accompanied thee all the men of thy confederacy; beguiled, overcome thee have the men that were at peace with thee: [they that eat] thy bread have struck thee secretly a wound. There is no understanding in him.
Tous les hommes de ton alliance t'ont conduit sur ton chemin, jusqu'à la frontière. Les hommes qui étaient en paix avec toi t'ont trompé, et ont prévalu contre toi. Les amis qui mangent ton pain te tendent un piège. Il n'y a pas d'intelligence en lui. »
8 Shall I not on that same day, saith the Lord, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
« Ne détruirai-je pas en ce jour-là, dit Yahvé, les sages d'Édom et l'intelligence de la montagne d'Ésaü?
9 And thy mighty men, O Theman, shall be dismayed, in order that every one from the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
Tes vaillants hommes, Teman, seront consternés, au point que tous seront retranchés de la montagne d'Ésaü par le massacre.
10 Because of thy violence against thy brother Jacob shall shame cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
A cause de la violence faite à ton frère Jacob, la honte te couvrira, et tu seras retranché pour toujours.
11 On the day that thou stoodest on the other side, on the day that strangers carried away captive his army, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots over Jerusalem, also thou wast as any one of them.
Le jour où tu t'es tenu à l'écart, le jour où des étrangers ont emporté ses biens, où des étrangers sont entrés dans ses portes et ont tiré au sort Jérusalem, toi aussi tu as été comme l'un d'eux.
12 But thou shouldst not have looked on [pleased] at the day of thy brother, on the day that he was delivered up to strangers; neither shouldst thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah on the day of their destruction; nor should thou have spoken proudly on the day of distress.
Mais ne méprise pas ton frère au jour de son malheur, et ne te réjouis pas des fils de Juda au jour de leur ruine. Ne t'enorgueillis pas au jour de la détresse.
13 Thou shouldst not have entered into the gate of my people on the day of their calamity; yea, thou too shouldst not have looked [pleased] on their affliction on the day of their calamity; nor have laid hands on their army on the day of their calamity;
N'entre pas dans la porte de mon peuple au jour de son malheur. Ne méprise pas leur détresse au jour de leur calamité, et ne t'empare pas de leurs biens au jour de leur calamité.
14 Neither shouldst thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldst thou have delivered up those of his that did remain on the day of distress.
Ne te tiens pas aux carrefours pour couper la route à ceux qui s'échappent. Ne livre pas ceux d'entre eux qui restent au jour de la détresse.
15 For near is the day of the Lord over all the nations: as thou hast done, shall it be done unto thee; thy deeds shall return upon thy own head.
Car le jour de Yahvé est proche de toutes les nations! Ce que vous avez fait, il vous sera fait. Tes actes retomberont sur ta propre tête.
16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mount, so shall all the nations drink continually; yea, they shall drink, and they shall reel about, and they shall be as though they had not been.
Car, comme vous avez bu sur ma montagne sainte, toutes les nations boiront sans cesse. Oui, elles boiront, elles avaleront, et elles seront comme si elles n'avaient pas été.
17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and it shall be holy: and the house of Jacob shall again possess their inheritances.
Mais sur la montagne de Sion, il y aura ceux qui échapperont, et elle sera sainte. La maison de Jacob possédera ses biens.
18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau become stubble, and they shall set them on fire, and devour them; and there shall not be any one remaining of the house of Esau; for the Lord hath spoken it.
La maison de Jacob sera un feu, la maison de Joseph une flamme, et la maison d'Ésaü un chaume. Ils brûleront au milieu d'eux et les dévoreront. Il ne restera rien à la maison d'Ésaü. » En effet, Yahvé a parlé.
19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the lowlands, the Philistines; and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin [shall possess] Gil'ad.
Ceux du Sud posséderont la montagne d'Ésaü, et ceux de la plaine, les Philistins. Ils posséderont le champ d'Ephraïm et le champ de Samarie. Benjamin possédera Galaad.
20 And the exiles of this host of the children of Israel that are [with] the Canaanites, as far as Zarephath, and the exiles of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
Les captifs de cette armée des enfants d'Israël, qui sont chez les Cananéens, posséderont jusqu'à Zarephath; et les captifs de Jérusalem, qui sont à Sépharad, posséderont les villes du Néguev.
21 And deliverers shall go up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau: and the kingdom shall be the Lord's
Des sauveurs monteront sur la montagne de Sion pour juger les montagnes d'Ésaü, et le royaume sera à Yahvé.
