Numbers 22
1 And the children of Israel set forward, and encamped in the plains of Moab, on this side of the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
Και σηκωθέντες οι υιοί Ισραήλ εστρατοπέδευσαν εις τας πεδιάδας του Μωάβ, παρά τον Ιορδάνην, κατέναντι της Ιεριχώ.
2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Emorites.
Και Βαλάκ ο υιός του Σεπφώρ είδε πάντα όσα έκαμεν ο Ισραήλ εις τους Αμορραίους.
3 And Moab was greatly afraid of the people, because it was numerous; and Moab was horrified because of the children of Israel.
Και εφοβήθη ο Μωάβ τον λαόν σφόδρα, διότι ήσαν πολλοί· και ήτο ο Μωάβ εις αμηχανίαν εξ αιτίας των υιών Ισραήλ.
4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now will this assemblage devour all that is round about us, as the ox devoureth the grass of the field; and Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.
Και είπεν ο Μωάβ προς τους πρεσβυτέρους του Μαδιάμ, Τώρα θέλει καταφάγει το πλήθος τούτο πάντα τα πέριξ ημών, καθώς ο βους κατατρώγει τον χόρτον της πεδιάδος. Και Βαλάκ ο υιός του Σεπφώρ ήτο βασιλεύς των Μωαβιτών κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν.
5 And he sent messengers unto Bil'am the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river, in the land of the children of his people, to have him called; saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; behold, it covereth the surface of the earth, and it is abiding opposite to me:
Και απέστειλε πρέσβεις προς τον Βαλαάμ, υιόν του Βεώρ, εις Φεθορά, κειμένην πλησίον του ποταμού της γης των υιών του λαού αυτού, διά να προσκαλέση αυτόν, λέγων, Ιδού, λαός εξήλθεν εξ Αιγύπτου· ιδού, περικαλύπτει το πρόσωπον της γης, και κάθηται εναντίον μου·
6 And now do but come, curse me this people; for it is too mighty for me; peradventure I may be able to smite it, that I may drive it out of the land; for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
τώρα λοιπόν ελθέ, σε παρακαλώ, καταράσθητί μοι τον λαόν τούτον, διότι είναι δυνατώτερός μου· ίσως υπερισχύσω, να πατάξωμεν αυτούς και να εκδιώξω αυτούς εκ της γής· επειδή εξεύρω, ότι όντινα ευλογήσης είναι ευλογημένος, και όντινα καταρασθής είναι κατηραμένος.
7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Bil'am, and spoke unto him the words of Balak.
Και υπήγαν οι πρεσβύτεροι του Μωάβ και οι πρεσβύτεροι του Μαδιάμ, φέροντες τα δώρα της μαντείας εις τας χείρας αυτών· και ήλθον προς Βαλαάμ και είπον προς αυτόν τους λόγους του Βαλάκ.
8 And he said unto them, Remain you here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the Lord may speak unto me; and the princes of Moab abode with Bil'am.
Ο δε είπε προς αυτούς, Μείνατε ενταύθα ταύτην την νύκτα και θέλω αποκριθή εις εσάς ό, τι λαλήση ο Κύριος προς εμέ. Και έμειναν μετά του Βαλαάμ οι άρχοντες του Μωάβ.
9 And God came unto Bil'am, and said, Who are these men with thee?
Και ήλθεν ο Θεός εις τον Βαλαάμ και είπε, Τι θέλουσιν οι άνθρωποι ούτοι μετά σου;
10 And Bil'am said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, the king of Moab, hath sent unto me, [saying, ]
Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς τον Θεόν, Βαλάκ ο υιός του Σεπφώρ, βασιλεύς του Μωάβ, απέστειλε προς εμέ λέγων,
11 Behold, there is the people that is come out of Egypt, and covereth the face of the earth: now come, denounce it for me; peradventure I shall be able to fight against it, and drive it away.
Ιδού, λαός εξήλθεν εξ Αιγύπτου και κατεκάλυψε το πρόσωπον της γής· ελθέ τώρα, καταράσθητί μοι αυτόν· ίσως υπερισχύσω να νικήσω αυτόν και να εκδιώξω αυτόν.
12 And God said unto Bil'am, Thou shalt not go with them: thou shalt not curse the people; for it is blessed.
Και είπεν ο Θεός προς τον Βαλαάμ, Μη υπάγης μετ' αυτών· μη καταρασθής τον λαόν, διότι είναι ευλογημένος.
13 And Bil'am rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Go back to your land; for the Lord refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
Και σηκωθείς την αυγήν ο Βαλαάμ είπε προς τους άρχοντας του Βαλάκ, Υπάγετε εις την γην σας· διότι δεν μοι συγχωρεί ο Κύριος να έλθω μεθ' υμών.
14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Bil'am refuseth to come with us.
Και σηκωθέντες οι άρχοντες του Μωάβ, ήλθον προς τον Βαλάκ και είπον, Δεν θέλει ο Βαλαάμ να έλθη μεθ' ημών.
15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more in number, and more honorable than those.
Και ο Βαλάκ απέστειλε πάλιν άρχοντας περισσοτέρους και εντιμοτέρους τούτων·
16 And they came to Bil'am, and said to him, Thus hath said Balak the son of Zippor, Do not suffer thyself, I pray thee, to be prevented from coming unto me;
και ήλθον προς τον Βαλαάμ και είπον προς αυτόν, ούτω λέγει Βαλάκ ο υιός του Σεπφώρ· Μη εμποδισθής, σε παρακαλώ, να έλθης προς εμέ·
17 For I will honor thee greatly, and whatsoever thou mayest say unto me will I do: and only come, I pray thee, denounce me this people.
διότι θέλω σε τιμήσει με μεγάλας τιμάς, και θέλω κάμει παν ό, τι μοι είπης· ελθέ λοιπόν, παρακαλώ, καταράσθητί μοι τον λαόν τούτον.
18 And Bil'am answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress the order of the Lord my God, to do a small or a great thing.
Και απεκρίθη ο Βαλαάμ και είπε προς τους δούλους του Βαλάκ, Και εάν μοι δώση ο Βαλάκ την οικίαν αυτού πλήρη αργυρίου και χρυσίου, δεν δύναμαι να παραβώ τον λόγον Κυρίου του Θεού μου, διά να κάμω ολιγώτερον ή περισσότερον·
19 And now, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the Lord will farther speak with me.
διά τούτο μείνατε ενταύθα, παρακαλώ, και σεις την νύκτα ταύτην, διά να ίδω τι θέλει ειπεί ότι ο Κύριος προς εμέ.
20 And God came unto Bil'am at night, and said unto him, If to call thee the men have come, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I shall speak unto thee, that shalt thou do.
Και ήλθεν ο Θεός προς τον Βαλαάμ την νύκτα και είπε προς αυτόν, Εάν έλθωσιν οι άνθρωποι διά να σε καλέσωσι, σηκωθείς ύπαγε μετ' αυτών· πλην ό, τι σοι είπω, τούτο θέλεις κάμει.
21 And Bil'am rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
Και εσηκώθη ο Βαλαάμ το πρωΐ, και εσαμάρωσε την όνον αυτού και υπήγε μετά των αρχόντων του Μωάβ.
22 And the anger of God was kindled, because he went; and an angel of the Lord placed himself in the way to be a hindrance to him; and he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
Και εξήφθη η οργή του Θεού ότι υπήγε· και εστάθη άγγελος Κυρίου εν τη οδώ έμπροσθεν αυτού, διά να εναντιωθή εις αυτόν· αυτός δε εκάθητο επί της όνου αυτού και δύο δούλοι αυτού ήσαν μετ' αυτού·
23 And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Bil'am smote the ass, to make her turn into the way.
και ιδούσα η όνος τον άγγελον του Κυρίου ιστάμενον εν τη οδώ, και την ρομφαίαν αυτού γεγυμνωμένην εν τη χειρί αυτού, εξέκλινεν η όνος εκ της οδού και υπήγαινεν προς την πεδιάδα· και εκτύπησεν ο Βαλαάμ την όνον, διά να επαναφέρη αυτήν εις την οδόν.
24 But the angel of the Lord stepped into a path between the vineyards, [with] a wall on this side, and a wall on that side.
Αλλ' ο άγγελος του Κυρίου εστάθη εν μιά στενή οδώ των αμπελώνων, όπου ήτο φραγμός εντεύθεν και φραγμός εντεύθεν·
25 And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she forced herself against the wall, and pressed Bil'am's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
και ιδούσα η όνος τον άγγελον του Κυρίου, προσέθλιψεν εαυτήν προς τον τοίχον και συνέθλιψε τον πόδα του Βαλαάμ εις τον τοίχον· αυτός δε εκτύπησεν αυτήν πάλιν.
26 And the angel of the Lord went yet farther, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.
Και ο άγγελος του Κυρίου υπήγε παρεμπρός, και εστάθη εν στενώ τόπω, όπου δεν ήτο οδός διά να εκκλίνη δεξιά ή αριστερά·
27 And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she lay down under Bil'am: whereupon Bil'am's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a stick.
και ιδούσα η όνος τον άγγελον του Κυρίου, συνεκάθησεν υποκάτω του Βαλαάμ· και θυμωθείς ο Βαλαάμ, εκτύπησε την όνον διά της ράβδου.
28 And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Bil'am, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
Και ήνοιξεν ο Κύριος το στόμα της όνου· και είπε προς τον Βαλαάμ, Τι σοι έκαμα, και με εκτύπησας τρίτην ταύτην φοράν;
29 And Bil'am said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: had I but a sword in my hand, I would assuredly have now killed thee.
Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς την όνον, Διότι με ενέπαιξας· είθε να είχον μάχαιραν εν τη χειρί μου, διότι τώρα ήθελον σε θανατώσει.
30 And the ass said unto Bil'am, Am not I thy ass, upon which thou hast ridden from thy commencement unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, No.
Και η όνος είπε προς τον Βαλαάμ, Δεν είμαι εγώ η όνος σου, επί της οποίας εκάθιζες αφ' ου χρόνου με έχεις έως της ημέρας ταύτης; ήμην πότε συνειθισμένη να κάμνω ούτως εις σε; Ο δε είπεν, Ουχί.
31 Then the Lord opened the eyes of Bil'am, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head and prostrated himself on his face.
Και ήνοιξεν ο Κύριος τους οφθαλμούς του Βαλαάμ, και είδε τον άγγελον του Κυρίου ιστάμενον εν τη οδώ και την ρομφαίαν αυτού γεγυμνωμένην εν τη χειρί αυτού· και κύψας προσεκύνησεν επί πρόσωπον αυτού.
32 And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thy ass these three times? behold, I went out to be a hindrance; because the journey which is odious to me was too quickly begun.
Και είπε προς αυτόν ο άγγελος του Κυρίου, Διά τι εκτύπησας την όνον σου τρίτην ταύτην φοράν; ιδού, εγώ εξήλθον διά να σοι εναντιωθώ, διότι ο δρόμος σου είναι διεστραμμένος ενώπιόν μου·
33 And the ass saw me, and turned aside before me these three times; if she had not turned aside from me, I would surely now not only have slain thee, but saved her alive.
και ιδούσά με η όνος εξέκλινεν απ' εμού τρίτην ταύτην φοράν· άλλως, εάν δεν εξέκλινεν απ' εμού τώρα σε μεν ήθελον φονεύσει, εκείνην δε ήθελον αφήσει ζώσαν.
34 And Bil'am said unto the angel of the Lord, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou wast standing against me in the way; but now, if it be evil in thy eyes, I will return home again.
Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς τον άγγελον του Κυρίου, Ημάρτησα· διότι δεν ήξευρον ότι συ έστεκες εν τη οδώ εναντίον μου· όθεν τώρα, εάν δεν ήναι αρεστόν εις σε, επιστρέφω.
35 And the angel of the Lord said unto Bil'am, Go with the men; however, only the word which I will speak unto thee, that shalt thou speak: and Bil'am went with the princes of Balak.
Και είπεν ο άγγελος του Κυρίου προς τον Βαλαάμ, Ύπαγε μετά των ανθρώπων· πλην ό, τι σοι είπω, τούτο θέλεις λαλήσει. Και υπήγεν ο Βαλαάμ μετά των αρχόντων του Βαλάκ.
36 And when Balak heard that Bil'am was come, he went out to meet him unto 'Ir-Moab, which is on the border of Arnon, which is at the outmost end of the boundary.
Και ακούσας ο Βαλάκ ότι ήρχετο ο Βαλαάμ, εξήλθε να προϋπαντήση αυτόν, έως εις πόλιν τινά του Μωάβ, κειμένην εν τοις ορίοις του Αρνών, όστις είναι το έσχατον όριον.
37 And Balak said unto Bil'am, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to have thee called? wherefore camest thou not unto me? in truth, am I not able to honor thee?
Και είπεν ο Βαλάκ προς τον Βαλαάμ, Δεν απέστειλα προς σε μετά σπουδής να σε καλέσω; διά τι δεν ήλθες προς εμέ; μήπως δεν είμαι ικανός να σε τιμήσω;
38 And Bil'am said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee; have I now any power whatever to speak the least? the word that God may put in my mouth, that alone must I speak.
Και είπεν ο Βαλαάμ προς τον Βαλάκ, Ιδού, ήλθον προς σέ· έχω τώρα την δύναμιν να λαλήσω τι; όντινα λόγον βάλη ο Θεός εις το στόμα μου, τούτον θέλω λαλήσει.
39 And Bil'am went with Balak, and they came unto Kiryath-chuzoth.
Και υπήγεν ο Βαλαάμ μετά του Βαλάκ, και ήλθον εις Κιριάθ-ουζώθ.
40 And Balak slew oxen and sheep, and sent to Bil'am and to the princes that were with him.
Και εθυσίασεν ο Βαλάκ βόας και πρόβατα, και έπεμψεν εξ αυτών προς τον Βαλαάμ και προς τους άρχοντας τους μετ' αυτού.
41 And it came to pass in the morning, that Balak took Bil'am, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, and he saw thence a portion of the people.
Και το πρωΐ έλαβεν ο Βαλάκ τον Βαλαάμ, και ανεβίβασεν αυτόν επί τους υψηλούς τόπους του Βάαλ, και εκείθεν είδε την άκραν του λαού.
