Numbers 13
1 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
Darauf gebot der HERR dem Mose folgendes:
2 Send thou out some men that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: one man each of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send, every one who is a prince among them.
»Sende Männer aus, damit sie das Land Kanaan auskundschaften, das ich den Israeliten geben will; je einen Mann aus jedem Stamme seiner Väter sollt ihr aussenden, lauter Fürsten unter ihnen.«
3 And Moses sent them out from the wilderness of Paran by the order of the Lord: they all were men, [who] were heads of the children of Israel.
So sandte denn Mose sie nach dem Befehl des HERRN aus der Wüste Paran aus, allesamt Männer, welche Stammeshäupter der Israeliten waren,
4 And these are their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
und dies sind ihre Namen: vom Stamme Ruben: Sammua, der Sohn Sakkurs;
5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Chori.
vom Stamme Simeon: Saphat, der Sohn Horis;
6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Yephunneh.
vom Stamme Juda: Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes;
7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Yigal the son of Joseph.
vom Stamme Issaschar: Jigal, der Sohn Josephs;
8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea, the son of Nun.
vom Stamme Ephraim: Hosea, der Sohn Nuns;
9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
vom Stamme Benjamin: Palti, der Sohn Raphus;
10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
vom Stamme Sebulon: Gaddiel, der Sohn Sodis;
11 Of the tribe of Joseph, of the tribe of Menasseh, Gaddi the son of Sussi.
[vom Stamme Joseph] vom Stamme Manasse: Gaddi, der Sohn Susis;
12 Of the tribe of Dan, 'Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
vom Stamme Dan: Ammiel, der Sohn Gemallis;
13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
vom Stamme Asser: Sethur, der Sohn Michaels;
14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nachbi the son of Vophsi.
vom Stamme Naphthali: Nahbi, der Sohn Wophsis;
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
vom Stamme Gad: Geuel, der Sohn Machis.
16 These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land; and Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun, Joshua [[Yehoshua']].
Dies sind die Namen der Männer, die Mose entsandte, um das Land auszukundschaften. Mose hatte aber Hosea, dem Sohne Nuns, den Namen Josua gegeben.
17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and he said unto them, Go you up this way at the south side, and go up into the mountain;
Mose entsandte sie also, um das Land Kanaan auszukundschaften, und befahl ihnen: »Zieht hier hinauf im Südland und steigt dann auf das Hochland hinauf;
18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they be strong or weak, whether they be few or many;
seht zu, wie das Land beschaffen ist und ob das Volk, das darin wohnt, stark oder schwach, spärlich oder zahlreich ist;
19 And what the land is on which they dwell, whether it be good or bad; and what the cities are in which they dwell, whether in open places, or in strongholds;
auch wie das Land beschaffen ist, in dem es wohnt, ob fruchtbar oder unfruchtbar, und wie die Ortschaften beschaffen sind, in denen es wohnt, ob in offenen Lagern oder in festen Plätzen;
20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be trees therein, or not; and take ye courage, and take away some of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the season of the first ripening of grapes.
auch wie der Boden beschaffen ist, ob fett oder mager, ob Bäume darauf stehen oder nicht. Zeigt euch mutig und bringt auch von den Früchten des Landes einige mit!« Es war aber damals gerade die Zeit der ersten Trauben.
21 And they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rechob, on the road to Chamath.
So zogen sie denn hinauf und kundschafteten das Land aus von der Wüste Zin bis Rehob, wo der Weg nach Hamath geht.
22 And they ascended on the south side, and came unto Hebron; and there were Achiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of 'Anak; [now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.]
Sie zogen also im Südland hinauf und kamen bis Hebron, wo die Enakssöhne Ahiman, Sesai und Thalmai wohnten; Hebron aber war sieben Jahre vor der ägyptischen Stadt Zoan gegründet worden.
23 And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and they cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it upon a barrow between two; and [they took some] of the pomegranates and of the figs.
Als sie dann ins Tal Eskol gekommen waren, schnitten sie dort eine Rebe mit einer einzigen Weintraube ab, die sie zu zweien an einer Stange trugen, auch einige Granatäpfel und Feigen.
24 That place was called the valley of Eshcol, on account of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from there.
Die betreffende Örtlichkeit nannte man Tal Eskol wegen der Traube, welche die Israeliten dort abgeschnitten hatten.
25 And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
Nach Verlauf von vierzig Tagen machten sie sich dann auf den Rückweg, nachdem sie das Land ausgekundschaftet hatten.
26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and they brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
Als sie nun zu Mose und Aaron und zur ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten in die Wüste Paran nach Kades zurückgekehrt waren, erstatteten sie ihnen und der ganzen Gemeinde Bericht und zeigten ihnen die Früchte des Landes.
27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou didst send us, and truly doth it flow with milk and honey; and this is its fruit.
Sie trugen ihm aber folgenden Bericht vor: »Wir haben uns in das Land begeben, in das du uns gesandt hast: es fließt wirklich von Milch und Honig über, und dies hier sind Früchte von dort.
28 Nevertheless the people are strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are very strongly walled, and great; and the children of 'Anak also have we seen there.
Jedoch das Volk, das im Lande wohnt, ist stark, und die Städte sind befestigt und sehr groß; auch die Enakssöhne haben wir dort gesehen.
29 The Amalekites dwell in the southern country; and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Emorites, dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the margin of the Jordan.
Die Amalekiter bewohnen das Südland, die Hethiter, Jebusiter und Amoriter wohnen im Berglande, und die Kanaanäer wohnen am Meer und an der Seite des Jordans.«
30 And Caleb stilled the people toward Moses, and he said, We can easily go up, and take possession of it; for we are well able to overcome it.
Kaleb suchte nun den Unwillen des Volkes gegen Mose zu beschwichtigen, indem er ausrief: »Laßt uns nur hinaufziehen und (das Land) in Besitz nehmen! Denn wir können es sicherlich überwältigen.«
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
Jedoch die Männer, die mit ihm hinaufgezogen waren, erklärten: »Wir sind nicht imstande, gegen das Volk hinaufzuziehen; denn es ist uns zu stark.«
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying, The land through which we have passed to spy it out, is a land that consumeth its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
Dann entwarfen sie den Israeliten eine schlimme Schilderung von dem Lande, das sie ausgekundschaftet hatten, mit den Worten: »Das Land, das wir durchzogen haben, um es auszukundschaften, ist ein Land, das seine Bewohner frißt; und alles Volk, das wir darin gesehen haben, sind hochgewachsene Leute;
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of 'Anak, of the giants' [family]: and we were in our own eyes as grasshoppers, and so were we in their eyes.
auch die Riesen haben wir dort gesehen, die Enakssöhne vom Geschlecht der Riesen; wir kamen uns selbst gegen sie wie Heuschrecken vor, und ebenso erschienen wir ihnen.«
