Numbers 12
1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, on account of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for an Ethiopian woman had he married.
Miryam et Aaron médirent de Moïse, à cause de la femme éthiopienne qu’il avait épousée, car il avait épousé une Ethiopienne,
2 And they said, Hath then only with Moses the Lord spoken? hath he not also spoken with us? And the Lord heard it.
et ils dirent: "Est-ce que l’Éternel n’a parlé qu’à Moïse, uniquement? Ne nous a-t-il pas parlé, à nous aussi?" L’Éternel les entendit.
3 (But the man Moses was very meek, more so than any man who was upon the face of the earth.)
Or, cet homme, Moïse, était fort humble, plus qu’aucun homme qui fût sur la terre.
4 And the Lord said suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Go out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation; and these three went out.
Soudain l’Éternel dit à Moïse, à Aaron et à Miryam: "Rendez-vous tous trois à la tente d’assignation!" Et ils s’y rendirent tous trois.
5 And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the tabernacle; and he called Aaron and Miriam, and both of them went out.
L’Éternel descendit dans une colonne nébuleuse, s’arrêta à l’entrée de la tente, et appela Aaron et Miryam, qui sortirent tous deux;
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet of your kind, I, the Lord, do make myself known unto him in a vision, in a dream do I speak with him.
et il dit: "Ecoutez bien mes paroles. S’Il n’était que votre prophète, moi, Éternel, je me manifesterais à lui par une vision, c’est en songe que je m’entretiendrais avec lui.
7 Not so is my servant Moses, in all my house is he faithful.
Mais non: Moïse est mon serviteur; de toute ma maison c’est le plus dévoué.
8 Mouth to mouth do I speak with him, even evidently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord doth he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?
Je lui parle face à face, dans une claire apparition et sans énigmes; c’est l’image de Dieu même qu’il contemple. Pourquoi donc n’avez-vous pas craint de parler contre mon serviteur, contre Moïse?"
9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and he went away.
La colère de l’Éternel éclata ainsi contre eux, et il se retira.
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, [white] as snow; and Aaron turned toward Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
La nuée ayant disparu de dessus la tente, Miryam se trouva couverte de lèpre, blanche comme la neige. Aaron se tourna vers Miryam, et la vit lépreuse.
11 Then said Aaron unto Moses, Alas, my Lord, do not, I beseech thee, account to us as sin that wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
Et Aaron dit à Moïse: "Pitié, mon Seigneur! De grâce, ne nous impute pas à péché notre démence et notre faute!
12 Let her not be as a dead-born child, of which half the flesh is consumed, when it cometh out of its mother's womb.
Oh! Qu’elle ne ressemble pas à un mort-né qui, dès sa sortie du sein de sa mère, a une partie de son corps consumée!"
13 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, O God! do thou heal her, I beseech thee.
Et Moïse implora l’Éternel en disant: "Seigneur, oh! Guéris-la, de grâce!"
14 And the Lord said unto Moses, If her father had spit in her face, would she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up seven days outside of the camp, and after that let her be brought in again.
L’Éternel répondit à Moïse: "Si son père lui eût craché au visage, n’en serait-elle pas mortifiée durant sept jours? Qu’elle soit donc séquestrée sept jours hors du camp, et ensuite elle y sera admise."
15 And Miriam was shut up outside of the camp seven days; and the people did not set forward till Miriam was brought in again.
Miryam fut séquestrée hors du camp pendant sept jours; et le peuple ne partit que lorsque Miryam eut été réintégrée.
16 And afterward the people removed from Chazeroth, and encamped in the wilderness of Paran.
Après cela, le peuple partit de Hacêroth, et ils campèrent dans le désert de Pharan.
