Numbers 11
1 And it came to pass that as the people complained in a manner displeasing in the ears of the Lord, the Lord heard it, and his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burnt among them, and consumed at the uttermost part of the camp.
Da erging sich das Volk in lauten Klagen über sein Ungemach vor den Ohren des HERRN. Als der HERR es hörte, entbrannte sein Zorn, und das Feuer des HERRN zündete unter ihnen und richtete am Ende des Lagers Verheerung an.
2 And the people then cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto the Lord, and the fire disappeared.
Da schrie das Volk zu Mose, und dieser betete zum HERRN: da erlosch das Feuer.
3 And he called the name of the place Tab'erah; because the fire of the Lord had burnt among them.
Man gab deshalb diesem Orte den Namen Thabera, weil dort das Feuer des HERRN gegen sie aufgelodert war.
4 And the mixed multitude that was among them felt a lustful longing: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who will give us flesh to eat?
Das Gesindel aber, das sich unter ihnen befand, wurde lüstern; da fingen auch die Israeliten wieder an zu jammern und klagten: »Wer gibt uns Fleisch zu essen?
5 We remember the fish, which we could eat in Egypt for naught; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;
Wir denken an die Fische zurück, die wir in Ägypten umsonst zu essen hatten, an die Gurken und Melonen, an den Lauch, die Zwiebeln und den Knoblauch!
6 But now our soul is faint: there is nothing at all, only to the manna are our eyes [directed].
Jetzt aber sind wir ganz ausgehungert; gar nichts ist da! Nichts bekommen wir zu sehen als das Manna!«
7 But the manna was like coriander-seed, and its color as the color of the bdellium.
Das Manna aber sah aus wie Koriandersamen und glich dem Bedolachharz.
8 The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in a mill, or pounded it in a mortar, and boiled it in a pot, or made cakes of it: and its taste was as the taste of cakes mixed with oil.
Das Volk streifte umher und las es auf; hierauf zermahlten sie es mit Handmühlen oder zerstießen es in Mörsern, kochten es dann in Töpfen oder bereiteten Kuchen daraus; es schmeckte wie Ölbackwerk.
9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
Wenn der Tau nachts auf das Lager herabfiel, fiel das Manna mit auf ihn herab.
10 And Moses heard the people weep according to their families, every man at the door of his tent: and the anger of the Lord was kindled greatly; and in the eyes of Moses also was it displeasing.
Als nun Mose das Volk in allen Familien wehklagen hörte, einen jeden am Eingang seines Zeltes, und der Zorn des HERRN heftig entbrannt war, da regte sich der Unwille in Mose,
11 And Moses said unto the Lord, Wherefore hast thou done evil to thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favor in thy eyes, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
so daß er zum HERRN sagte: »Warum verfährst du so übel mit deinem Knecht, und warum nimmst du so wenig Rücksicht auf mich, daß du die Last (der Sorge) für dieses ganze Volk auf mich legst?
12 Was it I who have conceived all this people? or was it I who have begotten them? that thou shouldst say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou hast sworn unto their fathers?
Habe ich denn Mutterpflichten gegen dieses ganze Volk zu erfüllen, oder habe ich es in die Welt gesetzt, daß du zu mir sagen dürftest: ›Trage es auf deinen Armen, wie die Wärterin den Säugling trägt, und bringe es in das Land, das du ihren Vätern zugeschworen hast?‹
13 Whence shall I obtain flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep around me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
Woher soll ich Fleisch nehmen, um es diesem ganzen Volke zu geben? Mir jammern sie ja ihre Not vor und rufen: ›Gib uns Fleisch zu essen!‹
14 I am not able by myself alone to bear all this people, because it is too heavy for me.
Ich allein vermag die Last (der Sorge) für dieses ganze Volk nicht zu tragen; sie ist für mich zu schwer!
15 And if thou wilt thus deal with me, then slay me, I pray thee, at once, if I have found favor in thy eyes: that I may not see my wretchedness.
Willst du trotzdem so mit mir verfahren, so bringe mich doch lieber gleich um, wenn du es gut mit mir meinst, damit ich mein Unglück nicht länger anzusehen brauche!«
16 And the Lord said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and its officers; and take them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall stand there with thee.
Da antwortete der HERR dem Mose: »Versammle mir siebzig Männer aus den Ältesten der Israeliten, von denen du weißt, daß sie wirklich Älteste des Volkes und seine Obmänner sind; führe sie dann zum Offenbarungszelt und laß sie sich dort neben dir aufstellen.
17 And I will come down and speak with thee there: and I will take some of the spirit which is upon thee, and I will put it upon them; and they shall bear with thee the burden of the people, and thou shalt not bear it by thyself alone.
Ich will dann herabkommen und dort zu dir reden und will von dem Geist, der auf dir ruht, etwas nehmen und es ihnen mitteilen, damit sie im Verein mit dir die Last (der Sorge) für das Volk tragen und du sie nicht mehr allein zu tragen brauchst.
18 And unto the people shalt thou say, Hold yourselves ready against tomorrow, that ye may eat flesh; for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was better with us in Egypt: thus will the Lord give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
Zu dem Volke aber sollst du sagen: ›Heiligt euch für morgen! Da sollt ihr Fleisch zu essen bekommen; denn ihr habt vor den Ohren des HERRN gejammert und ausgerufen: Wer gibt uns Fleisch zu essen? In Ägypten hatten wir es so gut! Darum wird der HERR euch Fleisch geben, damit ihr zu essen habt.
19 Not one day shall ye eat, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days;
Nicht nur einen Tag sollt ihr es zu essen haben, auch nicht nur zwei oder fünf oder zehn oder zwanzig Tage:
20 But up to a full month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it become loathsome unto you; because that ye have despised the Lord who is in the midst of you, and ye have wept before him, saying, Why did we come forth out of Egypt?
nein, einen ganzen Monat lang, bis ihr es nicht mehr riechen könnt und es euch zum Ekel wird! Denn ihr habt den HERRN, der in eurer Mitte weilt, mißachtet und vor ihm gejammert und geklagt: Warum sind wir nur aus Ägypten weggezogen!‹«
21 And Moses said, Six hundred thousand men on foot is the people, in the midst of whom I am; and yet thou hast said, Flesh will I give them, that they may eat a whole month.
Da erwiderte Mose: »Sechshunderttausend Mann zu Fuß zählt das Volk, unter dem ich lebe, und doch sagst du: ›Fleisch will ich ihnen geben, daß sie einen ganzen Monat lang zu essen haben‹?
22 Shall flocks and herds be slain for them, that they may suffice for them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, that they may suffice for them?
Können so viele Stück Kleinvieh und Rinder für sie geschlachtet werden, daß es für sie ausreicht? Oder sollen alle Fische des Meeres für sie eingefangen werden, daß es für sie ausreicht?«
23 And the Lord said unto Moses, Should the Lord's hand be too short? now shalt thou see whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
Da antwortete der HERR dem Mose: »Ist etwa der Arm des HERRN zu kurz? Jetzt sollst du sehen, ob mein Wort sich dir erfüllt oder nicht!«
24 And Moses went out, and spoke to the people the words of the Lord; and he assembled seventy men from the elders of the people, and placed them round about the tabernacle.
Hierauf ging Mose hinaus und teilte dem Volk die Worte des HERRN mit; dann berief er siebzig Männer aus den Ältesten des Volkes und ließ sie sich rings um das (heilige) Zelt aufstellen.
25 And the Lord came down in a cloud and spoke unto him; and he took some of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy men, the elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did not so any more.
Da fuhr der HERR in der Wolke herab und redete zu ihm, nahm dann etwas von dem Geist, der auf ihm ruhte, und teilte ihn den siebzig Ältesten zu. Sobald nun der Geist auf sie gekommen war, gerieten sie in prophetische Begeisterung, später aber nicht wieder.
26 And there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of those that were written down, but they had not gone out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
Es waren aber zwei Männer im Lager zurückgeblieben, von denen der eine Eldad hieß, der andere Medad; auch auf diese ließ der Geist sich nieder – sie gehörten nämlich zu der Zahl der Aufgeschriebenen, waren aber nicht ans Zelt hinausgegangen –; diese gerieten nun im Lager in prophetische Begeisterung.
27 And there ran a young man, and told to Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.
Da kam ein Jüngling gelaufen und meldete dem Mose: »Eldad und Medad sind im Lager in prophetische Begeisterung geraten!«
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses from his youth, answered and said, My Lord Moses, forbid them.
Da brach Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der schon von seiner Jünglingszeit an der Diener Moses gewesen war, in die Worte aus: »O Mose, mein Herr, gebiete ihnen Einhalt!«
29 And Moses said unto him, Art thou zealous for my sake? And oh that one might render all the people of the Lord prophets, that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!
Aber Mose entgegnete ihm: »Gerätst du aus Sorge für mich in solchen Eifer? Möchte doch das ganze Volk des HERRN zu Propheten werden, daß der HERR seinen Geist auf sie kommen ließe!«
30 And Moses retired back into thy camp, he with the elders of Israel.
Hierauf begab sich Mose mit den Ältesten der Israeliten ins Lager zurück.
31 And a wind went forth from the Lord, and drove up quails from the sea, and scattered them over the camp, about a day's journey on this side, and about a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits high over the face of the earth.
Da erhob sich ein vom HERRN gesandter Wind, der führte Wachteln vom Meere herüber und ließ sie auf das Lager hineinfallen, ungefähr eine Tagereise weit nach allen Seiten rings um das Lager, und sie flogen nur etwa zwei Ellen hoch über der Erde.
32 And the people arose all that day, and all that night, and all the following day, and they gathered the quails; he that had taken the least, had gathered ten chomers: and they spread them out for themselves round about the camp.
Da machte sich das Volk jenen ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht und den ganzen folgenden Tag daran und sammelte Wachteln; wer auch nur wenig sammelte, brachte es doch auf zehn Homer; dann breiteten sie sich diese (zum Dörren) weithin aus rings um das Lager her.
33 The flesh was yet between their teeth, it was not yet chewed: when the wrath of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote among the people a very great plague.
Als sie aber das Fleisch noch zwischen ihren Zähnen hatten, noch ehe es verzehrt war, da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen das Volk, und der HERR ließ ein verheerendes Sterben unter dem Volke ausbrechen.
34 And he called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah; because there they buried the people that had lustfully craved.
Daher gab man diesem Orte den Namen Kibroth Hattaawa, weil man dort die Leute begraben hatte, die ihrem Gelüst gefrönt hatten. –
35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed unto Chazeroth; and they remained at Chazeroth.
Von den Lustgräbern zog das Volk dann weiter nach Hazeroth, woselbst sie längere Zeit blieben.
