Nehemiah 7
1 And it came to pass, when the wall was built, that I set up the doors; and then were appointed the gatekeepers and the singers and the [other] Levites [to their office].
Lorsque la muraille fut construite, que j'eus dressé les portes et que les gardiens des portes, les chantres et les lévites furent désignés,
2 And I gave my brother Chanani, and Chananyah the commander of the fortress, charge over Jerusalem; for he was esteemed a faithful man, and one that feared God these many days.
je confiai à mon frère Hanani et à Hanania, gouverneur de la forteresse, la responsabilité de Jérusalem, car c'était un homme fidèle et qui craignait Dieu plus que quiconque.
3 And I said unto them, The gates of Jerusalem must not be opened until the sun be hot; and while ye stand by, let them shut the doors, and do ye bar them; and station watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one opposite to his house.
Je leur dis: « Qu'on n'ouvre pas les portes de Jérusalem avant que le soleil soit chaud; et pendant qu'ils montent la garde, qu'ils ferment les portes, et vous les barrez; et établissez des tours de garde des habitants de Jérusalem, chacun dans son tour de garde, chacun près de sa maison. »
4 But the city was roomy in space and large: while the people therein were few, and the houses were not yet built.
Or la ville était large et grande; mais le peuple y était peu nombreux, et les maisons n'étaient pas bâties.
5 Then did my God put it into my heart, and I assembled together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might give in their genealogy; and I found a register of the genealogy of those who were come up at the first, and I found written therein:
Mon Dieu a mis dans mon cœur de rassembler les nobles, les chefs et le peuple, afin de les classer par généalogie. J'ai trouvé le livre de la généalogie de ceux qui étaient montés les premiers, et j'y ai trouvé ceci écrit:
6 These arc the children of the province, that came up out of the captivity of the exiles, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried into exile, and who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his own city;
Ce sont les fils de la province qui sont sortis de la captivité de ceux que Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, avait emmenés, et qui sont revenus à Jérusalem et en Juda, chacun dans sa ville.
7 Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua', Nehemiah, 'Azaryah, Ra'amyah, Nachamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Misspereth, Bigvai, Nechum, Ba'anah. The number of the men of the people of Israel was:
Ils sont venus avec Zorobabel, Josué, Néhémie, Azaria, Raamia, Nahamani, Mardochée, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvaï, Nehum et Baana. Le nombre d'hommes du peuple d'Israël:
8 The children of Par'osh, two thousand one hundred and seventy and two.
Fils de Parosh: deux mille cent soixante-douze.
9 The children of Shephatyah, three hundred seventy and two.
Fils de Shephatia: trois cent soixante-douze.
10 The children of Arach, six hundred fifty and two.
Fils d'Arach: six cent cinquante-deux.
11 The children of Pachath-moab, of the children of Jeshua' and Joab, two thousand and eight hundred and eighteen.
Fils de Pahathmoab, des fils de Josué et de Joab: deux mille huit cent dix-huit.
12 The children of 'Elam, one thousand two hundred fifty and four.

13 The children of Zatthu, eight hundred forty and five.

59 The children of Shephatyah, the children of Chattil, the children of Pochereth-hazzebayim, the children of Amon.

60 All the temple-servants, and the children of Solomon' servants, were three hundred ninety and two.
Tous les serviteurs du temple et les fils des serviteurs de Salomon étaient au nombre de trois cent quatre-vingt-douze.
61 And these were they who came up from Thel-melach, Thelcharsha, Kerub, Addon, and Immer, but they could not tell their family division and their descent, whether they were of Israel.
Voici ceux qui montèrent de Tel Melah, de Tel Harsha, de Cherub, d'Addon et d'Immer; mais ils ne purent montrer les maisons de leurs pères, ni leurs descendants, pour savoir s'ils étaient d'Israël:
62 The children of Delayah, the children of Tobiyah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two.
Fils de Delaja, fils de Tobija, fils de Nekoda: six cent quarante-deux.
63 And of the priests: The children of Chobayah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gil'adite, and was called after their name.
Parmi les sacrificateurs: les fils de Hobaia, les fils de Hakkoz, les fils de Barzillai, qui prit une femme parmi les filles de Barzillai, le Galaadite, et fut appelé de leur nom.
64 These sought for their family register, but it was not found: wherefore they were excluded, as unfit, from the priesthood.
Ceux-ci ont cherché leurs documents généalogiques, mais ne les ont pas trouvés. Ils furent donc considérés comme disqualifiés et retirés de la prêtrise.
65 And the Thirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there should stand up a priest with the Urim and Thummim.
Le gouverneur leur dit de ne pas manger des choses les plus saintes jusqu'à ce qu'un prêtre se lève pour faire le service avec l'Urim et le Thummim.
66 The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and sixty:
Toute l'assemblée était de quarante-deux mille trois cent soixante personnes,
67 Besides these were their man-servants and their maid-servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred and forty and five singing men and singing women.
sans compter leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes, au nombre de sept mille trois cent trente-sept. Ils avaient deux cent quarante-cinq chanteurs et chanteuses.
68 Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;
Leurs chevaux étaient au nombre de sept cent trente-six; leurs mulets, deux cent quarante-cinq;
69 [Their] camels, four hundred thirty and five: [their] asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.
leurs chameaux, quatre cent trente-cinq; leurs ânes, six mille sept cent vingt.
70 And a portion of the chiefs of the divisions gave unto the work. The Thirshatha gave to the treasure, of gold one thousand drachms, fifty bowls, five hundred and thirty coats for the priests.
Quelques-uns, parmi les chefs de famille, contribuèrent à l'œuvre. Le gouverneur donna au trésor mille dariques d'or, cinquante bassins, et cinq cent trente vêtements de prêtres.
71 And some of the chiefs of the divisions gave to the treasury of the work, of gold twenty thousand drachms, and of silver two thousand and two hundred manehs.
Des chefs de famille donnèrent au trésor de l'œuvre vingt mille dariques d'or et deux mille deux cents mines d'argent.
72 And what the rest of the people gave was, of gold twenty thousand drachms, and of silver two thousand manehs, and priests coats sixty and seven.
Le reste du peuple donna vingt mille dariques d'or, plus deux mille mines d'argent, et soixante-sept vêtements sacerdotaux.
73 So the priests, and the Levites, and the gatekeepers, and the singers, and some of the people, and the temple-servants, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities: and so came round the seventh month, while the children of Israel were in their cities.
Ainsi, les prêtres, les lévites, les portiers, les chantres, une partie du peuple, les serviteurs du temple et tout Israël habitaient dans leurs villes. Lorsque le septième mois fut arrivé, les enfants d'Israël étaient dans leurs villes.
