Nehemiah 13
1 On that day there was read in the book of Moses before the ears of the people; and there was found written therein, that no 'Ammonite or Moabite should come into the congregation of God for ever;
Εν τη ημέρα εκείνη ανεγνώσθη εν τω βιβλίω του Μωϋσέως εις τα ώτα του λαού· και ευρέθη γεγραμμένον εν αυτώ, ότι οι Αμμωνίται και οι Μωαβίται δεν έπρεπε να εισέλθωσιν εις την συναγωγήν του Θεού έως αιώνος·
2 Because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and with water, but had hired Bil'am against them, that he should curse them; although our God had changed the curse into a blessing.
διότι δεν προϋπήντησαν τους υιούς Ισραήλ μετά άρτου και μετά ύδατος, αλλ' εμίσθωσαν τον Βαλαάμ εναντίον αυτών, διά να καταρασθή αυτούς· πλην ο Θεός ημών έτρεψε την κατάραν εις ευλογίαν.
3 And it tame to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated all the alien mixture from Israel.
Και ως ήκουσαν τον νόμον, εχώρισαν από του Ισραήλ πάντα αλλογενή.
4 And before this, Elyashib the priest, appointed over the chambers of the house of our God, and a near [of kin] unto Tobiyah,
Προ τούτου δε Ελιασείβ ο ιερεύς, όστις είχε την επιστασίαν των οικημάτων του οίκου του Θεού ημών, είχε συγγενεύσει μετά του Τωβία·
5 Had prepared for him a large chamber, where they had laid in former times the meat-offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was ordained for the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the heave-offering of the priests.
και είχεν ετοιμάσει δι' αυτόν μέγα οίκημα, όπου πρότερον έθετον τας εξ αλφίτων προσφοράς, το λιβάνιον και τα σκεύη και τα δέκατα του σίτου, του οίνου και του ελαίου, το διατεταγμένον των Λευϊτών και των ψαλτωδών και των πυλωρών και τας προσφοράς των ιερέων.
6 But during all this I was not at Jerusalem; for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king of Babylon I went back unto the king, and after the lapse of some time I obtained by request [leave] of the king;
Πλην εν πάσι τούτοις εγώ δεν ήμην εν Ιερουσαλήμ· διότι εν τω τριακοστώ δευτέρω έτει Αρταξέρξου του βασιλέως της Βαβυλώνος ήλθον προς τον βασιλέα και μεθ' ημέρας τινάς εζήτησα παρά του βασιλέως,
7 And I came to Jerusalem, and perceived the evil that Elyashib had done for Tobiyah, in preparing for him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
και ήλθον εις Ιερουσαλήμ και έμαθον το κακόν, το οποίον ο Ελιασείβ έκαμε χάριν του Τωβία, ετοιμάσας εις αυτόν οίκημα εν ταις αυλαίς του οίκου του Θεού.
8 And it displeased me greatly: wherefore I cast forth all the household vessels of Tobiyah away out of the chamber.
Και δυσηρεστήθην πολύ· και έρριψα έξω του οικήματος πάντα τα σκεύη του οίκου του Τωβία.
9 And I gave the order, whereupon they cleansed the chambers; and I had brought thither again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat-offering and the frankincense.
Και προσέταξα, και εκαθάρισαν τα οικήματα· και επανέφερα εκεί τα σκεύη του οίκου του Θεού, τας εξ αλφίτων προσφοράς και το λιβάνιον.
10 And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given [them]: so that the Levites and the singers, that used to do the work, were fled every one to his field.
Και έμαθον ότι τα μερίδια των Λευΐτών δεν εδόθησαν εις αυτούς· διότι οι Λευΐται και οι ψαλτωδοί, οι ποιούντες το έργον, έφυγον έκαστος εις τον αγρόν αυτού.
11 Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why hath the house of God become forsaken? And I gathered them together, and placed them on their posts.
Και επέπληξα τους προεστώτας και είπα, Διά τι εγκατελείφθη ο οίκος του Θεού; Και εσύναξα αυτούς και αποκατέστησα αυτούς εις την θέσιν αυτών.
12 And all Judah brought the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.
Τότε έφερε πας ο Ιούδας εις τας αποθήκας το δέκατον του σίτου και του οίνου και του ελαίου.
13 And I appointed receivers over the treasuries, Shelemyah the priest and Zadok the scribe, and Pedayah of the Levites; and with them acted Chanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Matthanyah; for they were accounted as faithful, and it was their duty to make a distribution among their brethren.
Και κατέστησα φύλακας επί των αποθηκών, Σελεμίαν τον ιερέα και Σαδώκ τον γραμματέα και εκ των Λευΐτών· τον Φεδαΐαν· και πλησίον αυτών, Ανάν τον υιόν του Ζακχούρ, υιού του Ματθανία· διότι ελογίζοντο πιστοί· το έργον δε αυτών ήτο να διανέμωσιν εις τους αδελφούς αυτών.
14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my pious deeds which I have done for the house of my God, and for those that had charge of it.
Μνήσθητί μου, Θεέ μου, περί τούτου, και μη εξαλείψης τα ελέη μου, τα οποία έκαμα εις τον οίκον του Θεού μου και εις τας τελετάς αυτού.
15 In those days I saw in Judah some treading wine-presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading burdens on asses, as also wine, grapes and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day; and I warned them on the day whereon they sold provisions.
Εν εκείναις ταις ημέραις είδόν τινάς εν Ιούδα ληνοπατούντας εν σαββάτω και εισφέροντας δράγματα και επιφορτίζοντας επί όνους, και οίνον, σταφύλια και σύκα και παν είδος φορτίων, τα οποία έφερον εις Ιερουσαλήμ την ημέραν του σαββάτου· και διεμαρτυρήθην εν τη ημέρα, καθ' ην επώλουν τρόφιμα.
16 Also the men of Tyre [that] dwelt therein brought fish and all kinds of wares, and sold [them] on the sabbath unto the children of Judah and in Jerusalem.
Και οι Τύριοι, οι κατοικούντες εν αυτή, έφερον ιχθύας και παν είδος ωνίων και επώλουν εν σαββάτω εις τους υιούς Ιούδα και εν Ιερουσαλήμ.
17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this which ye are doing, and profaning [thereby] the sabbath day?
Και επέπληξα τους προκρίτους του Ιούδα και είπα προς αυτούς, Τι είναι το πράγμα τούτο το κακόν, το οποίον σεις κάμνετε, βεβηλούντες την ημέραν του σαββάτου;
18 Did not your fathers act thus, wherefore our God brought over us all this evil, and over this city? and ye bring yet more wrath over Israel by profaning the sabbath.
δεν έκαμνον ούτως οι πατέρες σας, και έφερεν ο Θεός ημών πάντα ταύτα τα κακά εφ' ημάς και επί την πόλιν ταύτην; αλλά σεις επαναφέρετε οργήν επί τον Ισραήλ, βεβηλούντες το σάββατον.
19 And it came to pass, that, when the shadows were lengthened in the gates of Jerusalem before the sabbath, I gave the order, whereupon the gates were locked, and I ordered that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my young men did I place at the gates, that there should be brought in no burden on the sabbath-day.
Διά τούτο, ότε ήρχιζε να συσκοτάζη εις τας πύλας της Ιερουσαλήμ προ του σαββάτου, είπα, και έκλεισαν τας πύλας, και προσέταξα να μη ανοιχθώσιν έως μετά το σάββατον· και κατέστησα επί τας πύλας τινάς εκ των υπηρετών μου, διά να μη εισέλθη φορτίον την ημέραν του σαββάτου.
20 But the merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside of Jerusalem once or twice.
Και διενυκτέρευσαν οι έμποροι και οι πωληταί παντός είδους ωνίων έξω της Ιερουσαλήμ άπαξ και δις.
21 Thereupon did I warn them, and said unto them, Why do ye lodge along the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth they came no more on the sabbath.
Τότε διεμαρτυρήθην εναντίον αυτών και είπα προς αυτούς, Διά τι διανυκτερεύετε έμπροσθεν του τείχους; εάν δευτερώσητε, θέλω βάλει χείρα επάνω σας. Έκτοτε δεν ήλθον εν σαββάτω.
22 And I ordered the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep watch at the gates, to sanctify the sabbath-day. Also this remember unto me, O my God, and shield me according to the abundance of thy kindness.
Και είπα προς τους Λευΐτας να καθαρίζωνται και να έρχωνται να φυλάττωσι τας πύλας, διά να αγιάζωσι την ημέραν του σαββάτου. Μνήσθητί μου, Θεέ μου, και περί τούτου, και ελέησόν με κατά το πλήθος του ελέους σου.
23 In those days also I saw certain Jews that had brought home wives of Ashdod, of 'Ammon, and of Moab:
Προσέτι εν ταις ημέραις εκείναις είδον τους Ιουδαίους τους λαβόντας γυναίκας Αζωτίας, Αμμωνίτιδας και Μωαβίτιδας·
24 And their children spoke partly in the speech of Ashdod, and did not understand to speak in the Jewish language, but according to the language of one or the other people.
και τα τέκνα αυτών λαλούντα ήμισυ Αζωτιστί, και μη εξεύροντα να λαλήσωσιν Ιουδαϊστί αλλά κατά την γλώσσαν διαφόρων λαών.
25 And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked out their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, nor for yourselves.
Και επέπληξα αυτούς και κατηράσθην αυτούς, και ερράβδισα τινάς εξ αυτών και ετριχομάδησα αυτούς, και ώρκισα αυτούς εις τον Θεόν, λέγων, Δεν θέλετε δώσει τας θυγατέρας σας εις τους υιούς αυτών, και δεν θέλετε λάβει εκ των θυγατέρων αυτών εις τους υιούς σας ή εις εαυτούς·
26 Did not Solomon the king of Israel sin by these things? and although among the many nations there was never a king like him, and beloved as he was by his God, and God had placed him as king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did the alien women mislead to sin.
δεν ημάρτησεν ούτω Σολομών ο βασιλεύς του Ισραήλ; καίτοι μεταξύ πολλών εθνών δεν υπήρξε βασιλεύς όμοιος αυτού, όστις ήτο αγαπώμενος υπό του Θεού αυτού, και έκαμεν αυτόν ο Θεός βασιλέα επί πάντα τον Ισραήλ· αλλ' όμως και αυτόν αι ξέναι γυναίκες έκαμον να αμαρτήση·
27 Shall we then hear it said of you, that ye do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in bringing home alien wives?
θέλομεν λοιπόν συγκατανεύσει εις εσάς να κάμνητε άπαν τούτο το μέγα κακόν, να γίνησθε παραβάται εναντίον εις τον Θεόν ημών λαμβάνοντες ξένας γυναίκας;
28 And one of the sons of Joyada', the son of Elyashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Choronite; wherefore I chased him away from me.
Και εις εκ των υιών του Ιωαδά, υιού του Ελιασείβ του ιερέως του μεγάλου, ήτο γαμβρός Σαναβαλλάτ του Ορωνίτου· όθεν απεδίωξα αυτόν απ' έμπροσθέν μου.
29 Remember [this] unto them, O my God, because of the defilements of the priesthood, and of the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.
Μνήσθητι αυτών, Θεέ μου, διότι εβεβήλωσαν την ιερατείαν και την διαθήκην της ιερατείας και των Λευϊτών.
30 Thus cleansed I them from all aliens, and I appointed the watches of the priests and the Levites, every one in his work;
Και εκαθάρισα αυτούς από πάντων των ξένων, και διώρισα φυλακάς εκ των ιερέων και των Λευΐτών, έκαστον εις τα έργα αυτού·
31 And for the procuring of the wood, at fixed time, and for the first-fruits. Remember this unto me, O my God, for good.
και διά την προσφοράν των ξύλων εν καιροίς ωρισμένοις, και διά τας απαρχάς. Μνήσθητί μου, Θεέ μου, επ' αγαθώ.
